Love this place. Inexpensive and the people are very nice. I’ve been here 3 times now and I’ve just set up an appointment for a 4th. My third girl did have a complication with her surgery, she had managed to chew it open when I was not home, but I came right back and they fixed her up. She is perfectly healthy now.

Environment and Atmosphere

While the exterior might be unassuming, as one reviewer noted, perhaps needing a more prominent sign, the internal environment and the staff's approach are consistently lauded. Clients frequently describe the people at Planned Pet-Hood as "very nice" and "friendly," fostering a welcoming atmosphere. The focus is clearly on providing essential, compassionate care without the frills that might drive up costs. The overwhelming sentiment from reviews is that despite being a low-cost facility, the care provided is excellent and the staff genuinely cares about the animals. This creates a comfortable and trustworthy environment for both pets and their owners. As a non-profit (501(c)(3) corporation), their operational model is built on efficiency and dedication to their mission, which contributes to their ability to offer services at reduced rates.

Planned Pet-Hood's hours typically include vaccination services on a first-come, first-served basis from 10:30 AM to 3:00 PM EST, Tuesday through Thursday. Surgery appointments require scheduling. While specific waiting area details aren't provided, the overall feedback suggests a streamlined process, enabling them to serve a high volume of pets efficiently.

Services Offered

Planned Pet-Hood specializes in essential veterinary services, with a strong emphasis on preventative care and population control:

  • Spay and Neuter Surgeries: This is the core service offered by Planned Pet-Hood. They provide significantly reduced-cost spaying and neutering for dogs and cats, crucial for preventing unwanted litters and reducing the burden on animal shelters. Their pricing structure is transparent and based on the animal's weight for dogs, with separate fees for male and female cats. The surgery fees often include post-surgery pain injections for cats and take-home pain medication for dogs, showcasing their commitment to comfortable recovery.
  • Vaccinations: Planned Pet-Hood offers a range of vital vaccinations for both puppies and kittens (in a series of three visits) and adult dogs and cats annually. This includes Rabies vaccinations (one-year and three-year options), Feline Leukemia, and Bordetella (Kennel Cough). These services are often available on a walk-in basis during specific hours, making them highly accessible for routine preventative care.
  • Microchipping: For a low one-time fee, pet owners can add microchipping to any service, providing an essential layer of security for lost pets.
  • Tests: They offer diagnostic tests such as Dog Heartworm Test and Cat FELV/FIV Test, crucial for early detection of common and serious diseases.
  • Deworming: Services are available for deworming, with pricing based on the pet's weight.
  • Flea and Tick Preventatives: Products like Advantage II and Seresto collars are available to help pet owners manage external parasites.

It's important to note that Planned Pet-Hood operates as a specialized clinic focused on these core services. While they excel in these areas, they may not offer the full spectrum of advanced treatments found at a general full-service veterinary hospital. However, for their specialized offerings, they are highly regarded for their quality and affordability. They work closely with area rescue groups and shelters, further amplifying their impact on animal welfare in the region.

Distinguishing Features

The most prominent feature of Planned Pet-Hood is its unmatched affordability. Reviewers consistently praise the "inexpensive" and "awesome prices" for their services, particularly for surgeries and vaccinations. This focus on low-cost care makes quality veterinary services accessible to a broader range of pet owners, aligning with their non-profit mission to combat pet overpopulation and euthanasia.

Another distinguishing characteristic is the compassionate and kind staff. Despite the high volume of patients, clients report that the people at Planned Pet-Hood are genuinely caring and friendly. This personal touch, even in a high-efficiency clinic, builds trust and ensures that pets receive gentle handling. One notable review highlighted a complication where a dog chewed open her incision, and the clinic promptly and effectively "fixed her up," demonstrating their commitment to patient well-being even after the initial procedure.

Their efficiency and specialized focus on spay/neuter and vaccinations allow them to streamline processes and offer services at a lower cost than many full-service veterinary clinics. This specialization means their veterinarians and technicians have extensive experience in these specific procedures, contributing to the high quality of care. They primarily perform same-day surgery, with pets typically going home the same day as their procedure.

Promotional Information and Client Experience

Planned Pet-Hood's primary promotional appeal is its commitment to providing high-quality, affordable care. They actively promote their reduced-cost spay/neuter surgeries and vaccination clinics as solutions for pet owners and a means to address the broader issue of pet homelessness. Their website often provides transparent pricing for their services, allowing pet owners to understand costs upfront.

While explicit "promotions" in the traditional sense might not be heavily advertised beyond their inherently low prices, the value they offer is a continuous draw. They are structured to accommodate many pets, which helps to keep their prices low and accessible. They may also partner with various programs or organizations, and it is advisable to check their website or contact them directly for any potential assistance programs or specific discounts. Clients are advised to not feed their pet any food after midnight the night before surgery, and cats must be in carriers while dogs must be on a leash, to ensure a smooth and safe process for all animals and staff.

The positive client experiences, as reflected in numerous reviews, speak volumes. People travel to Planned Pet-Hood because of the reputation for affordability and excellent care. The fact that clients return multiple times and enthusiastically recommend the clinic to others, even after minor complications that were expertly resolved, highlights the trust and satisfaction they inspire. The convenience of their vaccination clinics, often offered on a walk-in basis, also contributes to their positive client experience.

In essence, Planned Pet-Hood stands as a cornerstone for responsible pet ownership in the Harriman area, making essential veterinary services attainable for many and contributing significantly to animal welfare.

Very caring staff. They work as quickly and efficiently as they can. Before covid I had brought all four dogs and they came out to give their vaccines I didn't have to try to handle getting all of them inside.
