First visit for my cockatiel and it was the best experience ever. I was a little nervous being that it was my birds first visit but Dr Stancel was so gentle and caring that Kiwi did not mind it at all. The young lady at the front desk (sorry forgot her name) was also very helpful and knowledgeable. Dr Stancel put me at ease knowing that I can call anytime if I had any questions. I highly recommend this vet to anyone.

Dec 30, 2024 · Anicia MatosIt all started in my daughter's 4th grade with a class pet frog named Chachka. The kids watched him hatch in November 2016 and when the school year ended, my daughter was the lucky one to adopt him as her pet. For an aquatic frog that was not able to be held or taken out of his habitat other than for water changes, he was a lot of fun. He was very social and interactive. He reacted when we entered the room. He chirped and sang melodically. He jumped out of the water to nibble your finger. He was a happy frog. He even had a babysitter we brought him to when we went on vacation. One day he suddenly wasn't himself. We were worried. I searched for a veterinarian for exotic pets and was blessed to find Dr. Stancel at Paws, Wings & Scales Animal Hospital in Little Falls, NJ. The staff was friendly and accommodating on the phone. When we arrived, we received a warm welcome. We went right in to an exam room. First we met with a vet tech who was very thorough and professional. Dr. Stancel entered the room and was very friendly. He put us at ease right away. He carefully examined Chachka and was immediately concerned that Chachka may have passed already. He took him in the other room and did an ultrasound to look for a heart beat. He compassionately informed us that Chachka is unfortunately deceased. He delicately wrapped Chachka in a paper towel and gently placed him in a box for us. Dr. Stancel commended us for taking such good care of Chachka and giving him a long and happy life. He told us his species usually live a very short time, but Chachka was with us for over 8 years. Dr. Stancel then told us that there would be no charge for his services. I was stunned. I thanked him and we went to the front desk. The staff already knew Chachka's fate and offered their condolences. They listened to me as I shared his history and stories. I then burst into tears. I told them I felt silly given that it was just a frog. The receptionist came out from behind the desk and gave me the biggest hug. We talked a bit longer. I felt better. I thanked them all for their kindness and compassion. About a week or so later I received the sweetest card in the mail from Dr. Stancel. It was a sympathy card expressing his condolences on the loss of our pet frog, Chachka. I was so moved. If you or anyone you know is looking for a vet to care for your exotic pet, look no further. Dr. Stancel and his staff at Paws, Wings & Scales Animal Hospital are the very best. I can't thank them enough for making a difficult experience peaceful and accepting. Thank you, Dr. Stancel and Staff! You're the best!

Dec 21, 2024 · Josephine GarciaI recommend this vet to absolutely everyone. They are so personable- they aren’t sell outs like most doctors in big groups who don’t really care and are trying to work as fast as possible. I came from oradell animal hospital with my bearded dragon and he had her back feeling better within a few days BECAUSE he is very knowledgeable and actually had me stop giving her a medication I paid a lot of money for from Oradell animal hospital. She was better within two days and eating and running around again. His prices aren’t crazy, he wants to help and it’s evident and I feel extremely comfortable and confident with them. If you have a pet that you love that you want the best care for- make this your primary vet immediately (especially for exotics- because anyone with an exotic knows how hard it is to sometimes get an appointment quickly) Thank you so much. I’m literally going to bring all of my animals here from here on out. Wonderful people- wonderful service. Bless you
Oct 12, 2024 · Party BoyI have been trusting Dr. Stancel with my three reptiles for over five years, and his care has always been consistently outstanding. Paws Wings & Scales is the best place to bring your pets for thoughtful care you can trust, from the people at the front desk, Dr. Stancel, and the whole team. We recently had to endure the sad process of saying good bye to a very old and very beloved pet chameleon. Dr. Stancel and his team were all very understanding, empathetic, and very supportive for every step of the way. We are grateful that we did everything we could to make sure our pet had as much comfort and care as possible until the very end.
Oct 27, 2024 · Cynthia M HongHello, I'm writing this review to warn pet owners about this practice. I called to arrange an appointment. I asked for clarification about a prior pet visit experience so that I could make the right choices for my pet on the follow up visit. The receptionist was rude and impatient. She said she would call back and did not. And when I called to follow up she suggested I speak with the Dr if I needed further clarification. I agreed that it would be best to speak with the Dr. but was instead put on the phone with a disgruntled office manger who insisted that I see another provider if I was unsatisfied with the service. I told them I wanted to remain a client and wanted to book an appointment to which he refused to provide any further service to me. As a client, I should be able to ask for clarification or express a concern without being handled with intolerance, disrespect, and told to go somewhere else. The issue here is that you are dealing with an intolerant receptionist and then apparently a disgruntled office manager who do not know how to handle customer concerns. Both ultimately refused to allow me to speak with the Dr. himself. Take your beloved pet to a place that can handle your reasonable concerns & questions. God forbid you invest money and time with them only for them to tell you to go somewhere else if you dare express a relative concern. I was simply seeking some level of customer service to which they are not equipped to provide. If you look, you will see I'm not the only client to review them for their rudeness, unwillingness, and inability to address concerns in a professional way. What this means is - if/when you have a concern - you will be treated the same way. ------------------------------ The circumstance that I called to ask clarification for was: The Dr. allowed me to treat my bird with no symptoms (by his own examination/reported account) with the same presumed medication of my bird with symptoms. And I was expressing that I felt like (in hindsight) it would have been best to test the bird with symptoms FIRST to make sure that the medication dispersed actually treated the concern before prescribing the same medication to a bird without symptoms. The costs to treat both birds for an unknown cause (only experienced by 1 of the 2) cost me $100s more than what it would have cost to test the (1) bird with symptoms and prescribe the rights meds accordingly. Additionally, the pet that had symptoms did not improve at all with the medication provided. So this time around, I called to arrange an appointment for a test to determine the appropriate meds to prescribe FIRST. My intention was to ask the right questions so that I could make sure that the right test/meds would be provided as a result of the visit as well as to make smart fiscal decisions this time around. Will post recordings of the call(s) here:
Mar 21, 2025 · jenI recently took my bunny here for pre-op bloodwork, and unfortunately, my experience was very disappointing. Both front desk staff members were extremely rude and cold, and there was a complete lack of communication. When I arrived, my bunny was immediately taken from me with no explanation or time for me to ask any questions. I was also told I couldn’t go back with her, and when I asked the front desk where they would be drawing blood, I was met with a dismissive response. The staff member told me, "Where do you think? Same place humans get it... in her forearm." Only later did another person come out to tell me the blood was actually drawn from her jugular in her neck. To make matters worse, when my bunny came out, she was shaking tremendously, which was extremely upsetting to see. There was no effort to explain the process, and when I expressed my concerns, the staff was cold and unhelpful. I love Dr. Stancel, but the treatment I received from the front desk staff was unprofessional and concerning. Because of this, I decided to cancel my bunny’s spay appointment and book elsewhere. I will not be returning. REPLY : Since I’m unable to respond directly to the message, I’ll add this here. Sending me an estimate for bloodwork and surgery cost is not the same as explaining the process during the visit. My bunny was first seen 6 months ago with an ear infection (an entirely different issue) so I was focused on this priority. This is why I assumed we would re-visit what was initially told about the surgery 6 months ago during this pre-op appointment. Although I was called, I was told that the pre-op and bloodwork would both be done at this visit. As someone who works in the medical field, I would never take a patient back without fully explaining what exactly will be done, especially to the legal guardian. I also feel as though it should be common courtesy to ask to take a clients pet… not tell them. Telling me she’s getting bloodwork isn’t sufficient for me. As a new bunny mom, I need to know where the blood will be drawn and what the backup plan is in case she moves. I wouldn’t have had to ask the receptionist where they drew her blood if the tech hadn’t rushed away with my bunny before I had the chance to ask questions… I left the office very upset and in tears and, despite not receiving an apology call, I now get a response after leaving a review. Even more disappointing... I care deeply for my bunny, which is why I have another veterinarian with similar (or I’d argue better backgrounds) plus a staff that’s kind and caring of their clients on stand by. Thank you for your concern.
