Since we moved down here from greater Hartford Dr. Rosenberg has taken care of our two felines. He is a studied and knowledgeable vet. However lately with declining health there is a member of his staff that fields the ball while he is away. Poor attitude, no call backs, difficulty setting up appointments. Recently in his absence we waited 4 days for a callback after several messages were left even on the emergency cell number. Call back never came, nobody answers the phone. We have moved on to Wood River Animal Hospital. I give them 7 stars on a five star rating. Fabulous, follow up calls, great staff. I wish Dr. Rosenberg well. He needs to remove the one bad apple from the basket. It’s ruining his practice.

Welcome to Pawcatuck Veterinary Clinic
Pawcatuck Veterinary Clinic, situated at 37 S Broad St # 4, Pawcatuck, CT 06379, USA, serves the local community as a dedicated facility within the 'Pet Hospital' category. The clinic is associated with Dr. Rosenberg, a veterinarian acknowledged for his knowledge and expertise. As a local pet hospital, it aims to provide a range of medical services essential for the health and well-being of companion animals in the Pawcatuck area.
The environment at Pawcatuck Veterinary Clinic, as depicted by customer experiences, appears to have varied over time or depending on specific interactions. One positive review highlights an atmosphere where the "staff at this clinic were always so friendly and kind when we came in," especially noted for their gentle approach with a "very nervous dog." This suggests an environment that prioritizes pet comfort and a welcoming demeanor from the front-line staff, which is crucial for reducing stress during veterinary visits. Such an environment contributes to a more positive experience for both pets and their owners. However, another review points to significant challenges, particularly concerning communication and accessibility, describing "poor attitude," "no call backs," and "difficulty setting up appointments." The inability to get a response even on an "emergency cell number" indicates a breakdown in operational efficiency or client communication when Dr. Rosenberg is not directly available. This suggests that while the physical environment might be adequate, the operational and communicative aspects of the clinic's environment can fluctuate, impacting client satisfaction and access to care. Therefore, the clinic's environment can be perceived differently, depending on the specific interactions and the operational efficiency experienced by the client.
As a 'Pet Hospital,' Pawcatuck Veterinary Clinic is expected to offer a comprehensive suite of veterinary services to diagnose, treat, and prevent a variety of animal health issues. Based on the provided reviews, specific services include:
- General Veterinary Care: This broadly encompasses routine check-ups and ongoing health management for pets.
- Diagnostic Services: One review mentions Dr. Rosenberg diagnosing lymphoma and finding an immunotherapy, which strongly implies access to advanced diagnostic capabilities to identify complex diseases. This likely includes in-house laboratory testing (blood work, urinalysis, fecal exams) and possibly imaging techniques like X-rays or ultrasound.
- Specialized Treatment Protocols: The success in finding an "immunotherapy that gave us 6 months" for a dog with lymphoma suggests the clinic, or Dr. Rosenberg, is capable of exploring and implementing advanced or specialized treatment options for serious conditions, going "the extra mile" for patients.
- Compassionate Care: The clinic is noted for its friendly and kind staff, particularly for nervous pets, indicating a focus on patient comfort during visits and procedures.
- Surgical Procedures: While not explicitly mentioned, a typical pet hospital would perform routine surgeries like spaying and neutering, as well as other common soft tissue surgeries.
- Preventive Medicine: General pet health maintenance including vaccinations, parasite control, and wellness advice would be standard offerings.
The reviews highlight a focus on thorough diagnostics and the pursuit of effective treatment, even for challenging conditions, under Dr. Rosenberg's direct care.
The key features of Pawcatuck Veterinary Clinic present a dual perspective based on the customer feedback. A prominent positive feature is Dr. Rosenberg's expertise and knowledge. He is described as a "studied and knowledgeable vet," and his ability to diagnose and provide advanced treatment options, such as the immunotherapy for lymphoma, showcases a high level of medical proficiency. Another significant feature is the compassionate and kind approach of the staff, particularly noted for their ability to handle nervous pets, which builds trust and comfort for both the animal and the owner. This empathetic care is a vital component of a positive veterinary experience. The clinic's capacity to go "the extra mile" for critical cases also stands out, reflecting a dedication to patient well-being.
However, an equally prominent feature, especially in recent times, appears to be challenges related to client communication and administrative efficiency. The issues of "no call backs," "difficulty setting up appointments," and phones not being answered are significant operational concerns that can negatively impact client access to care and overall satisfaction. The mention of a "poor attitude" from a staff member and the sentiment that "one bad apple" is "ruining his practice" points to inconsistencies in client service delivery. This suggests a disconnect between the excellent veterinary care provided by Dr. Rosenberg and the administrative or front-office operations, which is a critical aspect for a pet hospital. The contrast between the clinical quality and the administrative issues forms a core characteristic of the clinic's current operations.
For promotional information, Pawcatuck Veterinary Clinic relies heavily on the professional reputation and medical expertise of Dr. Rosenberg, particularly highlighted by successful and compassionate care stories like the lymphoma treatment. The available contact numbers, (860) 535-5813 and +1 860-535-5813, are the primary means for clients to reach the clinic. However, the recent customer feedback indicates that while the quality of veterinary care by Dr. Rosenberg is highly valued, potential clients should be aware of possible difficulties in communication and scheduling. The clinic's historical strengths in compassionate and knowledgeable medical treatment serve as a significant draw. Yet, for its long-term success and positive client experience, addressing the noted administrative and communication shortcomings will be crucial. The mixed reviews suggest that while Dr. Rosenberg's clinical abilities are highly regarded, the overall client experience may vary based on interactions with the support staff and the clinic's operational efficiency in handling communications and appointments.

May 22, 2025 · G SWe took our dog Kali here until she unfortunately passed last May. I have nothing but amazing things to say about this clinic. Kali was a very nervous girl and didn’t love strangers, the staff at this clinic were always so friendly and kind when we came in. Dr Rosenberg went the extra mile for us when he diagnosed Kali with lymphoma in 2023 finding an immunotherapy that gave us 6 months when we could have had as little as weeks left with her. I have since moved, but if I find myself back in the area in the near future I know where I will be bringing my pets!
Mar 19, 2025 · Timmary MainDr. Rosenberg And his staff are kind and compassionate. My dog, though a sweetheart in most situations, does not like to be touched for medical support and has not been the best behaved pooch at their practice. I thought for sure, they would kick her out, but they always welcome her with treats and pats.
Feb 24, 2025 · Mary PetrofesOur kitten had an eye infection and needed entropion surgery due to her tear duct being blocked. They got us in right away for the visit and the surgery and the surgery was a huge success and so much kindness and gentleness was shown to our kitty during the process. She has healed beautifully and she is a happy kitty once again … Thank you all so much !
Jun 11, 2024 · laura minnickLove this place! They really care about your animals and you as a client. I was there yesterday with my Mom’s very difficult cat for a health check and vaccines and they went above and beyond to accommodate us and help Pumpkin. I have been taking my animals ( 5 dogs and 3 cats ) to them for years and have always received good professional care but yesterday really showed me how lucky I was to have Dr. Rosenberg and his staff as my veterinarian all these years.
