A clean, organized, and focused environment is essential for precision in ophthalmology, and the clinic clearly maintains high standards to facilitate optimal patient care and diagnostic accuracy, fostering trust and peace of mind for pet owners.
---New England Veterinary Ophthalmology PLLC offers a comprehensive suite of specialized ophthalmic services. Their core offerings are tailored to address a broad spectrum of eye conditions in pets, including:
- Comprehensive Ophthalmic Exams: Thorough eye examinations are performed using cutting-edge equipment to accurately evaluate pets for various conditions such as dry eye, corneal ulcers, glaucoma, cataracts, and other complex eye problems. These exams often include specialized techniques like slit lamp biomicroscopy, tonometry (to precisely measure intraocular pressure), and indirect ophthalmoscopy.
- Cataract Surgery: They provide expert evaluation and advanced surgical intervention for cataracts, a common cause of blindness in pets. This often involves phacoemulsification with artificial lens implantation, highly similar to procedures performed in humans, with a primary focus on restoring functional vision.
- Corneal Surgery and Treatment: Addressing a variety of corneal conditions, including severe corneal ulcers and infections that can rapidly become surgical emergencies. They offer intricate procedures like corneal grafting and other advanced techniques specifically aimed at preserving and saving vision.
- Glaucoma Management: Expert diagnosis and comprehensive treatment for glaucoma, a painful condition that can lead to irreversible blindness. Management may include a combination of medical therapy and highly specialized surgical options like anterior chamber shunt placement or laser photocoagulation.
- Eyelid Conditions: Precise diagnosis and skilled surgical correction of various eyelid abnormalities such as entropion (inward rolling eyelids), ectropion (outward rolling eyelids), distichiasis (abnormal eyelashes), and the removal of eyelid tumors.
- OFA CAER Exams (Companion Animal Eye Registry): These crucial eye certification exams are performed for breeding dogs, aiding in the identification of inherited eye diseases and promoting responsible breeding practices. The clinic can also facilitate OFA eye clinics.
- Other Specialized Procedures: Including targeted treatment for retinal detachment, orbital/globe conditions, and other complex ocular issues requiring advanced intervention.
Several key features distinguish New England Veterinary Ophthalmology PLLC as a premier specialist "Pet Hospital." The expertise of their veterinarians is a paramount feature. Dr. Anthony Alario, a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists (DACVO), brings extensive experience and a special interest in glaucoma and diseases of the lens. Dr. Chris Alling, also a DACVO, focuses on corneal endothelial disease and entropion repair, finding cataract surgery particularly gratifying. The customer reviews powerfully underscore this expertise, with one client stating that Dr. Alling was "so knowledgeable, thorough, and careful in his diagnostics" and even "blew out of the water." This highlights their superior diagnostic skills and unwavering commitment to taking every necessary step to save a pet's eye. Another key feature is the staff's exceptional patience and understanding, particularly with "reactive dogs," making the visit as stress-free as possible for these sensitive patients. The clinic's commitment to continuous improvement in a pet's condition, as noted by the client whose dog's eye condition was "constantly improving," speaks directly to their long-term dedication to achieving optimal patient outcomes. They emphasize "compassionate, expert care for your pet's eyes" and work collaboratively with primary care veterinarians, pledging to keep them fully informed of treatments. As a "privately owned, boutique" ophthalmology practice, they are able to offer a truly personalized experience, ensuring clients "see familiar faces at every appointment" who are intimately familiar with their pet's specific needs, fostering deep trust and invaluable continuity of care.

Their "promotional information" is more about their unwavering commitment to excellent patient care and client satisfaction:
- Robust Referral Network: Their primary mode of attracting new clients is likely through strong, well-established referrals from general practice veterinarians who implicitly trust their specialized expertise and the quality of care they provide.
- Powerful Patient Testimonials: The enthusiastic reviews from satisfied clients, as provided, serve as incredibly powerful endorsements, showcasing the clinic's verifiable success in saving pets' eyes and significantly improving their quality of life.
- Specialized Certifications: By prominently featuring their board-certified ophthalmologists (DACVOs) and their participation in esteemed programs like OFA CAER exams, they effectively promote their high professional standards and ethical practices.
- Accessible Communication: Their consistent availability Monday through Friday (8 am – 5 pm) and clear contact information ((603) 255-3500) ensure easy and direct access for both pet owners and referring veterinarians. Their website also offers detailed and comprehensive information about their services and the expert team.

Apr 03, 2025 · Shannyn GladstoneThis practice saved my dogs eye. My dog had a horrible experience because of a dental procedure and almost lost her eye. Dr. Alling was so knowledgeable, thorough, and careful in his diagnostics for my dog. He took every step necessary to save her eye. To put it into perspective- my dog was previously treated for her eye by Opthamologists in a renowned animal hospital. Dr. Alling blew them out of the water. Highest recommendations.
May 23, 2025 · Christina ChorianopoulosThe staff is wonderful! They truly care about my dog and help make the experience as pleasant as possible. The space is always clean and calm. Even when situations were dire everyone stayed calm and informative. If I could single out every staff member for excellence I would. They really have all been fantastic.
May 01, 2025 · Lyzz AnJoI wish I could give this place 10 stars. Everyone is absolutely fantastic. From reception to the veterinarians we have never had a bad experience. When I call I am greeted with a friendly voice and scheduling is always easy. If I email with a medical concern I typically get a response within minutes. The techs are always so welcoming and helpful. This is night and day from my old “specialist” office. We drive over 3 hours round trip to come here. I would NEVER bring my dogs anywhere else after experiencing the level of care and service I have here. Absolutely beautiful humans working here who genuinely care about you and your animals well being.
May 09, 2025 · Ashley KellyDr. Alario was absolutely amazing!! We had to make the difficult decision to remove one of our dogs eyes and he couldn't have done a better job of explaining the entire process to myself & my husband, as well as putting all our fears and reservations at rest. The surgery went perfectly and she was back to her silly sassy self within a few days. It has healed beautifully.
