I love this vet clinic. Very helpful, down to earth people and it has a the small town feel. We had our litter of six puppies health checks done here and we were happy with the experience and reasonable prices. We did have to wait a considerable amount of time but that is understandable as some days are just busy. I will definitely use them again and recommend to friends! Thank you again!

Based on the customer reviews available, experiences at Mercersburg Veterinary Clinic appear to be varied. One customer expressed a positive sentiment, stating they "love this vet clinic" and found the staff to be "very helpful, down to earth people" with a "small town feel." They were happy with the health checks their litter of six puppies received, noting "reasonable prices." This reviewer acknowledged a "considerable" wait time but found it understandable due to busy days and indicated they would use the clinic again and recommend it to friends.

In contrast, another customer shared a very negative experience. They recounted their dog having surgery at the clinic, alleging a "poor staple job" that resulted in staples falling out of an incision. During a follow-up visit one week post-surgery, this reviewer stated that Dr. Grove removed staples from both incisions, earlier than the clinic's usual two-week timeframe, without prior consultation. Subsequently, one of the incisions reportedly broke open two days later. The customer claimed they received no response to texts and phone calls to the clinic and had to seek emergency treatment at a hospital 1.5 hours away, incurring additional costs. Their dog required a second surgery and was prescribed antibiotics at the emergency facility. This reviewer strongly stated they would not recommend Mercersburg Veterinary Clinic, citing concerns about the clinic's care and alleging neglect. They also described the exam rooms as "filthy dirty" and the reception area as having a "horrible" smell, raising questions about the cleanliness of surgical procedures.

Given these contrasting reviews, it is challenging to provide a definitive description of the clinic's environment and services without potentially reflecting the subjective experiences shared. However, we can attempt to infer some aspects based on typical veterinary clinics and the comments provided.

The environment of Mercersburg Veterinary Clinic, based on one negative review, was described as having "filthy dirty" exam rooms and a reception area with a "horrible smell." This would suggest a need for improvement in cleanliness and maintenance. Conversely, the other review mentions a "small town feel," which might imply a more personal and less formal atmosphere, although this doesn't directly address the cleanliness concerns.

The services offered at Mercersburg Veterinary Clinic, as indicated by the reviews, include:

  • Routine health checks, as mentioned by the customer who brought in a litter of puppies.
  • Surgical procedures, as indicated by the negative review concerning a dog's surgery and staple removal.
  • Post-operative follow-up care, as seen in the one-week post-surgery check-up.

However, the negative review raises concerns about the quality of surgical aftercare and communication. Typically, a veterinary clinic would also offer services such as vaccinations, parasite control, dental care, diagnostics, and treatment of illnesses, but these are not explicitly detailed in the provided reviews.

Features of Mercersburg Veterinary Clinic, according to one positive review, include helpful and down-to-earth staff and a small-town atmosphere. They also mentioned reasonable prices. However, the negative review contradicts this by alleging neglect and raising concerns about the standard of care and cleanliness.

There is no promotional information provided in the text. Veterinary clinics sometimes offer promotions for new clients or specific services, but no such information is available for Mercersburg Veterinary Clinic in these reviews.

For local users considering Mercersburg Veterinary Clinic, it is crucial to be aware of the significantly different experiences reported by these two customers. One highlights a positive experience with routine care and pricing, while the other details serious concerns about surgical aftercare, communication, and cleanliness. Potential clients may want to weigh these perspectives and possibly seek further information or clarification from the clinic directly.

In conclusion, Mercersburg Veterinary Clinic in Mercersburg, PA, is a Pet Hospital that has received contrasting feedback from its customers. One customer appreciated the helpful staff, small-town feel, and reasonable prices for routine puppy health checks, despite a wait. The other reported a very negative experience involving a surgical complication, concerns about post-operative care, lack of communication, and issues with the clinic's cleanliness. Local users should consider these differing accounts when making decisions about their pet's veterinary care. For more information, you can contact them at (717) 328-5171 or +1 717-328-5171.

I will not recommend Mercersburg Veterinary Clinic to anyone after our experience. My dog had surgery there & the staples were literally falling out of the one incision due to a poor staple job. I took my dog in to have the incisions checked one week after surgery. Dr Grove chose on her own to take the staples out of both incisions & it had only been a week since surgery. She told us she normally doesn't take staples out until 2 weeks after surgery. I did not know she removed the staples from both incisions until she came back in the room & told us she had all ready removed them. My wife mentioned about antibiotics to the tech, but the vet didn't prescribe any. Needless to say 2 days later the one incision broke open. My wife texted pics to the Mercersburg Veterinary Clinic & also made 2 phone calls with no reply. We had to take our dog to an emergency animal hospital 1-1/2 hours away to seek treatment, which incurred extra fees. My dog had to go through a second surgery to debride the incision, clean it out & suture it shut, which caused a longer recovery. Antibiotics were prescribed at the emergency animal hospital. Mercersburg Veterinary Clinic has no concern for your pet. It would only be right for me to be reimbursed the fee for my dog' s emergency surgery, because of the neglect. Also, the exam rooms are filthy dirty & the reception area smells horrible. Makes me question how sterile surgery procedures are.

My wife and I have been with MVC since the early 2000s. We have had 2 dogs (both now deceased) that were patients there. Our last passed about a week ago, so we have sufficiently recovered to be able to write an honest, and unbiased review. First, Dr Horst was awesome. He was kind, caring and fair. When he sold the practice, it seemed to go in a different direction. Not necessarily a bad direction, just more corporatized and less personal. People of this area liked the personal service that a small town country vet provided. During the last few years, my wife and I have each had less than pleasurable experiences talking on the phone with reception. Promises of callbacks that never happened, telling us to call the next day and when we did we were told that they had no recollection of what we were calling about. Bear in mind we have spend thousands on our dogs, we took them in twice a year for exams, bought all of our flea/tick/heartworm and even probiotics through MVC. This last incident with our dog on the day of her passing was the last straw for us. Our dog began to seize and aspirate, and we called MVC immediately. It was around 2PM on a Wednesday. We informed the receptionist that our dog was in dire need of care, and were told that they didn’t have any appointments until the following week. When asked what to do, we were told just to call an emergency vet and have them talk us through what to do, and to get them to an emergency vet. I thought this was especially callus, especially when they would not offer any advice as to how to stabilize the dog, or best positions to Lay her down, etc. I appreciate them for their years of service to our dogs, but when we decide to go and rescue another dog or two, we will probably look elsewhere for vet care after this experience.

Easily the worst vet I’ve ever dealers with. Set up an appointment through pet desk, in to which pet desk got ahold of them to confirm or deny the appointment and they confirmed it. We then drive 30+ minutes just for them to say their systems can’t find us and deny our sick cat an appointment. Stay far away from here.

Dr Grove is a compassionate and skilled veterinarian who truly cares about practicing sound medicine. She will not put an animal at undo risk just to “cut corners”. You are definitely getting quality veterinary care here.
