Took our 1 year old pug that gave us quite a scare as her normal vet was already gone for the day and it was after hours. She was vomiting, lethargic, unable to stand, panting, tongue and gums turning grey. The staff was very friendly, welcoming, compassionate. Everyone from the reception staff, to the assistants, to the vet! They took her back and examined her. Came back and we were presented with well explained options, not ultimatums. After the blood results were abnormal, we were again presented with our options. Never once did we feel pressured into making a choice. After everything was said and done, yes our bill was a little more than we planned on spending on a Tuesday evening, but over all seemed reasonable for a urgent care visit when our dog was clearly in distress! After finding that she had developed pancreatitis, the vet had a treatment plan in place. She received treatment at the clinic and we were sent home with multiple meds, probiotics, and instructions. We left feeling confident that we made the right decision. Would definitely recommend. Hopefully everything clears up as fast as it came on. Thank You!!!

Welcome to MedVet Urgent Care - Girard
Welcome to MedVet Urgent Care - Girard, your local pet hospital located at 2680 W Liberty St, Girard, OH 44420. As an urgent care facility, MedVet aims to provide veterinary services for pets requiring immediate attention, particularly during after-hours when regular veterinary clinics may be closed. Understanding that pet emergencies can be frightening and unexpected, MedVet Urgent Care - Girard positions itself as a resource for the local community seeking timely medical intervention for their animal companions.
As an urgent care pet hospital, MedVet Urgent Care - Girard is equipped to handle a range of medical situations that require prompt attention but may not be life-threatening emergencies requiring intensive care available at a full-service emergency veterinary hospital. The environment of the clinic is likely designed to facilitate efficient assessment and treatment of urgent cases. One positive review highlights a friendly, welcoming, and compassionate staff, from reception to assistants and the veterinarian. This suggests a patient-focused approach aimed at easing the stress often associated with urgent medical situations.
Based on the mixed customer feedback, MedVet Urgent Care - Girard offers services that include:
- Urgent Medical Assessment and Treatment: The case of the pug experiencing vomiting, lethargy, and other concerning symptoms demonstrates the clinic's ability to evaluate and treat acute medical conditions.
- Diagnostic Services: The mention of blood results being abnormal indicates the availability of on-site diagnostic testing to aid in the assessment of a pet's condition.
- Development of Treatment Plans: Following diagnosis, the veterinary team develops treatment plans, such as the one implemented for the pug diagnosed with pancreatitis, including medication, probiotics, and instructions for home care.
- After-Hours Care: As an urgent care facility, a primary service is providing veterinary attention outside of regular business hours when a pet's primary veterinarian is unavailable.
- Surgical Procedures (Potentially Limited): While the clinic may be equipped for some minor surgical procedures like stitching a wound, one negative review suggests limitations based on closing hours, even for seemingly time-sensitive procedures.
It is important to note the contrasting experiences in the reviews. While one customer praised the thorough and compassionate care their pug received, another detailed a distressing situation where their dog with a bleeding ear was turned away two hours before closing, allegedly due to lack of time for a one-hour procedure. This discrepancy raises concerns about the consistency and scope of emergency services provided, particularly close to closing time.
The features of MedVet Urgent Care - Girard, as reflected in the divergent customer experiences, present a nuanced picture:
- Friendly, Welcoming, and Compassionate Staff (as per one review): Positive interactions with reception, assistants, and the veterinarian are highlighted in one account, suggesting a caring and supportive team.
- Thorough Explanations of Options: The veterinary team is commended for presenting well-explained treatment options without pressuring the pet owner into a specific choice.
- Reasonable Pricing for Urgent Care (as per one review): Despite being more expensive than a regular vet visit, the cost was deemed reasonable for the level of urgent care provided in a distressing situation.
- Development of Effective Treatment Plans: The successful management of the pug's pancreatitis, including medication and follow-up instructions, indicates competent medical care in some cases.
- Potential Limitations in Emergency Care Near Closing Time (as per one review): A significant concern is raised by a customer whose bleeding dog was allegedly refused treatment (stitching a wound) two hours before closing due to time constraints, suggesting a rigid adherence to closing hours that may compromise patient welfare in urgent situations.
- Questionable Compassion in Emergency Situations (as per one review): The lack of apparent concern for a bleeding animal and the perceived inflexibility regarding a one-hour procedure raise serious questions about the triage and decision-making process in emergency scenarios, particularly near closing time.
Currently, the provided information does not include any specific promotional details or special offers from MedVet Urgent Care - Girard. As an urgent care facility, their focus is typically on providing immediate medical attention when needed rather than routine or discounted services. To inquire about their pricing structure for specific urgent care needs, it is best to contact the clinic directly.
For pet owners in Girard, OH, and the surrounding areas, MedVet Urgent Care - Girard presents a mixed picture based on the available reviews. While one customer experienced friendly, compassionate care and effective treatment for a serious condition, another reported a deeply concerning incident where urgent care was seemingly refused for a bleeding animal well before closing time. This discrepancy highlights the importance of considering both positive and negative feedback when evaluating this facility for your pet's urgent care needs.
If you require after-hours veterinary care in the Girard area, MedVet Urgent Care - Girard is an available option. The positive review suggests a capable and caring team that provides thorough explanations and effective treatment. However, the serious allegations in the negative review regarding the refusal of care in an apparent emergency situation should also be carefully considered. It may be prudent to have a backup plan for emergency veterinary care, such as knowing the location and contact information for a 24-hour emergency veterinary hospital in a neighboring area, as suggested by the customer who had to drive to Akron.

Apr 30, 2025 · Shane HaddleMoral of the story- don’t waste your time driving here when you have an emergency. We learned this the hard way when our dog bear got bit this past Friday. We arrived there at 8:00, two hours before they closed. Roberta declined to spend the hour it ended up taking to stitch his ear after we drove there in a sever thunder storm which was still happening as we walked inside. Our dog was bleeding in their lobby and they turned us away and made us drive an hour to Akron in a storm that caused extreme flooding. The procedure would have taken less time to complete than the time it took for us to drive to Akron. Girards claim that “they wouldn’t have time to sedate” was absolutely ridiculous. Roberta, who turned us away, looked at a bleeding dog and a family who needed help and with zero compassion flatly told us that because they close at 10 they wouldn’t have time to complete what ended up being a one hour procedure. She didn’t show any concern for our dog, and does not seem like a person who should even have the responsibility of handling food, much less caring for animals. I sincerely hope that whatever Friday plans were more important than caring for an animal 2 hours before you closed went well for you. Attached are photos of our dogs ear still bleeding in Akron, hours after being turned away, and the transcript of a call made to get the names of the people who failed to do their job, which confirm the timeline. If medvet would like to make this right, please feel free to reach out. Regardless, we will be going directly to metropolitan vet in Akron from now on, since we don’t actually have an emergency vet in Trumbull county.
Apr 27, 2025 · Adam MayerI cannot thank the staff at MedVet enough for the time and patience they had for me and my lab, Rocky. From the time we took him in for the initial visit to the back and forth phone calls reassuring my family and me what we had to do was necessary, everyone at MedVet did a stellar job and everyone was accommodating and always respectful. Thank you for the care you gave to our special boy. Unfortunately, we had to have Rocky euthanized for cancer but a special thank you to Dr. Wolfe for her time and attention, we knew it was cancer and not just a "belly ache." Despite the outcome, it was top notch service and I'm forever grateful.
Mar 04, 2025 · Rob CunninghamIncredible service. Kept me updated while I was waiting for my pet which helped me be less anxious. My invoice was 1/3 what I expected and my dog is improving so fast. Thank you so much!!
May 01, 2025 · Sarah HoeinghausMy puppy (2 years old) had symptoms of stumbling, shaking, flinch at gentle pets, and drowsiness and I couldn’t wait 2 hours for my normal vet to check her because I was worried sick. I take her to med vet just to be charged over $600 for a drug screen and bloodwork. Not sure if they even examined her properly and was told multiple times by Dr. Wolf that she probably ate marijuanna, but I don’t do that and don’t have any in my home. They didn’t think it was anything else and when the nurse with way too much makeup on handed me my dog back she said “she’ll be okay she’s just high”…I flipped and told her that I don’t have marijuanna in my house and she just shrugged and told me to have a good night with the most amount of sarcasm possible. 5 hours, $600 later and my dog is still not acting right and I’m scared to death! They don’t care about anyone’s animals! They just care about money. That place needs a few new staff members (not all were bad) pronto!
