They say you have to take the bad with the good but is it always true? I've dealt with Jersey Shore Vet for a couple of years and have had good experiences before this last time. A couple of weeks ago we had to let go of our 13yr lab pit mix named "Jake". As hard as it was it was necessary and we needed to stop the suffering. When we finished our final good byes were chose the cremation option which would allow us to have his ashes in our home with us. We paid premium for this service and we're told we will get a phone call when to pick up his remains. Days went by with no phone call and we waited patiently for his remains. One day during while we were out the mailman knocks on our door with a package that had to be signed for. I joked with my girlfriend and said could you imagine that's Jake's ashes and we said that would be so wrong and disrespectful to our family. We'll it was his ashes . It was president's weekend and we couldn't get to the post office until today only to find out it was Jake's ashes. Can you imagine the gut punch . I called and I wasn't pleasant but I didn't yell trying to express how I felt and was hung up on by the front end worker who honestly didn't have an ounce of remorse and just couldn't let someone vent. I just want to leave off by saying the flight could be good but if you crash at the end was it a good flight

Modern veterinary hospitals often invest in advanced medical equipment to aid in diagnosis and treatment.
The services offered at Jersey Shore Veterinary Hospital are likely to be extensive, covering a broad spectrum of your pet's healthcare needs. These typically include:

Based on the available customer reviews, Jersey Shore Veterinary Hospital exhibits some noteworthy features, particularly in their handling of reactive dogs. One reviewer specifically "highly recommend taking your pets here, especially if you have a reactive dog." They further elaborate on their experience with their "reactive & not friendly Dutch Shepherd," stating that the staff "knew exactly how to handle the situation and make him as comfortable as possible before doing what they needed to do." This suggests that the hospital has staff trained and experienced in managing animals that may be anxious, fearful, or aggressive during veterinary visits. This is a significant benefit for owners of pets with behavioral challenges, as it can make necessary veterinary care less stressful for both the animal and the owner. The reviewer even noted that an emergency visit with a new staff member turned out to be "the best vet visit he’s ever had," highlighting the consistent positive approach towards their reactive dog.
However, it's crucial to acknowledge a negative review that details a deeply upsetting experience regarding the handling of a pet's cremation remains. The reviewer recounts the distress of their beloved lab pit mix, Jake, passing away and their decision to opt for cremation with the expectation of a phone call for pickup. Instead, Jake's ashes were unexpectedly delivered via mail, causing significant emotional distress and perceived disrespect. The reviewer's attempt to express their feelings over the phone resulted in being hung up on by a front-end worker. This review raises serious concerns about communication, sensitivity, and the handling of aftercare services. While this appears to be an isolated incident based on the limited reviews provided, it is an important point for potential clients to consider and perhaps discuss with the hospital regarding their protocols for such sensitive matters.
It is important to approach online reviews with a balanced perspective. While the positive review strongly praises the hospital's ability to handle reactive dogs, which is a significant feature for a specific segment of pet owners, the negative review highlights a critical failure in their cremation services and customer service in that instance. Potential clients may want to weigh these experiences and consider their individual needs and priorities when choosing a veterinary care provider.
For local users in Barnegat, NJ, Jersey Shore Veterinary Hospital presents itself as a facility capable of providing a wide array of veterinary services, with a notable strength in handling reactive animals. If your pet has anxiety or behavioral issues during vet visits, this could be a significant advantage. However, it would be prudent to inquire about their procedures for aftercare services, such as cremation, to ensure clear communication and respectful handling, especially in light of the negative experience reported. Visiting the facility, if possible, or having a preliminary phone conversation to discuss your pet's specific needs and the hospital's protocols might be beneficial in making an informed decision about your pet's care.
While specific promotional information isn't available in the provided text, many veterinary hospitals offer introductory specials for new clients or seasonal promotions. It would be worthwhile to contact Jersey Shore Veterinary Hospital directly to inquire about any current offers that might be available to new local clients. Building a strong relationship with a trusted veterinary hospital is essential for the long-term health and well-being of your pets, and Jersey Shore Veterinary Hospital aims to be that partner for the Barnegat community.

Feb 19, 2025 · Milton RiveraI highly recommend taking your pets here, especially if you have a reactive dog. We have a reactive & not friendly Dutch Shepherd. They knew exactly how to handle the situation and make him as comfortable as possible before doing what they needed to do. Of our many vet visits with him, meeting a new staff for the first time in an emergency I thought would have went much worse but was actually the best vet visit he’s ever had.
Mar 16, 2025 · daniel scardignoMy mom brought her elderly cat in for an ear issue and the vet told her that nothing could be done and the cat would die within the year anyway. They said to use superglue to stop the bleeding. They said the cut was caused by cancer but no tests were done. My mom was SO UPSET and went for a second opinion. The next place she went to did a minor surgery and the cat is much happier and healthier now. I would not recommend this vet hospital, they are not kind and do not care or act like they care at all. Do not bring your pets here - 0 stars
Apr 24, 2025 · Amanda KellerOur 10 year old Australian Shepherd Haven was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma and had her leg amputated this year. She had always been the happiest dog and took on these new challenges with a smile. For ten years she stood by my side through every high and low, and gave her all in everything we did. In her I had a true partner, a twin soul, the light to my life. Though she adapted well to life on three paws and fought cancer like a warrior, she suddenly became very uncomfortable and our fears of the cancer finding its way to her lungs were comfirmed at a trip to the vet. We had never been to Jersey Shore Veterinary, but could not wait for our vet to be available, as she was suddenly in horrible pain from the tumors in her lungs and told us it was time. The staff at Jersey Shore were incredibly compassionate, empathetic, caring, and patient. We were given as much time as we needed to say our final goodbyes to our best friend and even though they didn't know us or our Haven they treated us with true kindness and respect. We received a thoughtfully written and beautiful sympathy card from Dr. Fenwick and Taylor in the days after Haven's passing along with her paw prints. I wish you could have known Haven, but am so grateful for the care you gave her and the compassion you showed us. We hope to come back to you under happier circumstances. Thank you.
Oct 28, 2023 · Sharon EllenderYesterday, I noticed that my dog was acting out of character and all alarm bells were going off in my head. I got him in my car and called on the way. They confirmed they'd be able to slip us in. Huge thanks to the whole team for running all the tests and walking me through our options, and ultimately saving my beloved dog Winston. We opted for emergency exploratory surgery which uncovered a splenic tumor that had ruptured and was bleeding internally. They were able to remove his spleen, confirm there were no other masses, flush out his abdomen and close him up. At 10 years, almost 11, he has a bit of a recovery ahead of him. I am infinitely grateful that I got him there in time and that they were able to save my big goofy boy. I don't care if we get another 6 months or a few more years, I'm just grateful we were blessed with more time. I'll never be ready to let him go, but I was especially unprepared to lose him on a random Sunday afternoon. Thank you so much to the whole team so saving my Winston! ❤️ I cannot fully describe the depths of my gratitude.
