Services: Comprehensive Care for Every Stage of Life

Highsmith Animal Hospital offers a broad spectrum of veterinary services, addressing the diverse healthcare needs of dogs and cats from puppyhood/kittenhood through their senior years. Their commitment to providing "cutting edge veterinary medical care" indicates a modern approach to diagnostics and treatment. Key services typically include:

  • Wellness Exams and Preventive Care: Routine check-ups are fundamental to proactive health management. These exams include physical assessments, vaccinations tailored to the pet's lifestyle and risk factors, parasite prevention (flea, tick, heartworm), and nutritional counseling. The goal is to detect potential issues early and maintain overall health.
  • Vaccinations: Essential immunizations are provided to protect pets from common infectious diseases, aligning with the latest veterinary guidelines.
  • Diagnostic Services: To accurately diagnose illnesses, the hospital likely utilizes various diagnostic tools. This typically includes in-house laboratory testing for blood work (CBC, chemistry panels), urinalysis, fecal examinations, and potentially more advanced diagnostics like digital radiography (X-rays) and ultrasound. Early and accurate diagnosis is crucial for effective treatment.
  • Surgical Procedures: Highsmith Animal Hospital performs a range of surgical interventions, from routine procedures like spaying and neutering to more complex soft tissue and orthopedic surgeries. The customer review highlighting Dr. Crawford's successful "very risky and important surgery" on a new puppy, Theo, underscores their capability and expertise in critical surgical care. This also implies comprehensive pre-operative evaluations and post-operative monitoring and recovery support.
  • Dental Care: Dental health is integral to a pet's overall well-being. Services likely include professional dental cleanings, extractions, and guidance on at-home dental hygiene.
  • Pharmacy: For convenience, the hospital likely has an in-house pharmacy to dispense necessary medications, ensuring quick access to prescribed treatments.
  • Microchipping: This vital service provides permanent identification for pets, significantly increasing the chances of reunification if a pet becomes lost.
  • Emergency & Urgent Care: While not a 24/7 emergency center, Highsmith Animal Hospital typically provides urgent care during business hours for sudden illnesses or injuries. For after-hours emergencies, they generally refer clients to dedicated emergency veterinary hospitals in the area, such as the Wilmington Animal Emergency & Trauma Hospital.
  • Client Education: Empowering pet owners with knowledge is a key service. They likely offer advice on various aspects of pet care, from nutrition and behavior to managing chronic conditions.
Features: Experienced Team, Personalized Care, and Strong Client Relationships

Several features distinguish Highsmith Animal Hospital as a leading veterinary care provider:

  • Highly Skilled and Compassionate Team: The recurring theme in customer reviews is the exceptional quality of the staff. Phrases like "Dr. Anderson and the staff are amazing" and "The staff were all amazing" highlight a team that is not only medically competent but also deeply caring. Dr. Crawford is specifically praised for being "kind, helpful, informative, and overall wonderful." This human element is a crucial feature, building trust and providing comfort during sensitive situations.
  • Personalized Patient Care: The feedback that pets receive "the care he deserves" and that Dr. Crawford was "able to help and give my new puppy Theo a very risky and important surgery" suggests a highly individualized approach to each patient's needs. They go beyond standard protocols to provide tailored solutions, even for complex cases.
  • Strong Client Communication and Follow-up: The "follow up calls and appointments too!" mentioned in a review are a testament to their commitment to post-treatment care and open communication. This proactive approach ensures that pet owners feel supported and informed throughout their pet's recovery and ongoing health journey.
  • Established Reputation: The positive reviews and long-standing presence in the community (inferred from the depth of reviews) suggest a well-established and trusted veterinary practice. The sentiment "Can’t say enough how much you and your pets will love it here with a crew like this!" speaks to a consistently high level of satisfaction.
  • Focus on Education: Their stated mission, which often includes educating clients on responsible pet ownership, empowers pet parents to make informed decisions and actively participate in their pet's health.
Promotional Information: Building Trust Through Testimonials and Accessibility

While specific time-limited discounts or special offers are not provided in the given information, Highsmith Animal Hospital leverages its strengths through its professional accessibility and, most significantly, the power of positive customer testimonials.

  • Customer Testimonials: The provided reviews serve as potent promotional tools. Real-world experiences like "Felix says they are number 1" and the detailed account of Theo's successful surgery resonate deeply with potential clients. These testimonials highlight the hospital's compassionate care, skilled veterinarians (Dr. Anderson, Dr. Crawford), and supportive staff, creating a strong impression of reliability and excellence. The willingness of clients to "highly recommend" and wish they "could give a 100 stars" is the most effective form of promotion.
  • Direct Contact: The provision of both a landline (910) 799-5587 and a mobile number (+1 910-799-5587) ensures easy access for new and existing clients to schedule appointments, inquire about services, or seek advice.
  • Online Presence (Inferred): As a modern veterinary practice, it's highly likely they maintain an active online presence (website, social media) where they share their services, staff profiles, health resources, and often, more client testimonials. Such platforms would also likely detail their operating hours and any specific policies.

Highly recommend and I wish I could give a 100 stars! So extremely thankful for this office and staff, especially Dr. Crawford! She was able to help and give my new puppy Theo a very risky and important surgery that he needed. She was kind, helpful, informative, and overall wonderful with everything. The staff were all amazing as well with the steps before and after, especially the follow up calls and appointments too! Can’t say enough how much you and your pets will love it here with a crew like this!

We have used highsmith for our vet services for 9 years now and love all staff there! Our late dog and current dog have very high vet anxiety and the staff is always great in calming them down, and our current pup has had quite a few health issues lately and the staff has bent over backwards getting us all needed medicine and answering questions. Will recommend to anyone looking for vet care!

If you are looking for a Vet for your pet, look no further. I highly recommend Dr. Edmiston and the entire staff at Highsmith. They loved my furbaby like he was their own.

We have been going to Highsmith since moving to Wilmington in 2016. The staff has always been friendly and accommodating. Dr. Taylo has cared for our sweet boy who is no longer with us and continues to provide vet support for our other two puppers. From osteosarcoma, ACL reconstructions, to basic care, we’ve felt supported. If it’s outside their scope, they help source who can help. Courtney has made special arrangements to check in and give our dogs love even when she wasn’t the tech assisting us on several occasions. She’s genuinely caring. Dr. Highsmith is also fabulous when we needed to get in and Taylo wasn’t available. Sue is always very sweet and patient on the phone and in the front end. Only good things to say about the office, professionalism, and services we have had.
