Heights Veterinary Clinic - Northwest

I’ve been taking both of my dogs to Heights Veterinary Clinic NW since moving to Houston in 2021. I’ve had nothing but exceptional experiences with the team here, from routine veterinary care to emergencies. I’m a dog behavior consultant and refer many clients, as well as friends, to this clinic - with several Fear Free veterinarians - due to their commitment to exceptional veterinary care. Dr. Rodriguez and Dr. Slack in particular have been absolutely wonderful to work with. I’m incredibly appreciative to Heights Vet Clinic.

The facility was exceptionally clean and had a pleasant aroma. Every staff member, from the receptionist to the technicians, demonstrated remarkable professionalism and friendliness. Dr. Mai exhibited patience and gentleness in handling my 9 year old, and the technician, Melissa, displayed commendable knowledge in addressing my inquiries. It is wonderful to have a positive experience for our first time at this clinic!

I have nothing but great things to say about my two visits to HVC so far. My young male Labrador had a terrible UTI that instead of running its course with the antibiotics from the ER vet decided to return with a vengeance. I was already casually shopping for a new primary care vet as I didn’t love the offices I had tried for various wellchecks for both my dog(s) and training clients. While at VEG I had asked a vet tech there who she personally recommended and this was one of the two options which by happenstance had an open same day appointment when my dog became incredibly symptomatic and uncomfortable overnight a few days after finishing his antibiotics. We have seen Jung as our vet tech and Dr Slack as our vet for both the initial appointment and the follow up we had today. Both allowed me to utilize the handling drills we have been working on since he was 8 weeks old because while he is incredibly social with zero behavior issues, he is a 7mo giant Labrador who is happy to body slam into anyone who he deems to be his friend if they start in with baby talk voice. Which I would rather not allow him to practice, so I am incredibly appreciative of these two being patient and afford Ghost the opportunity to practice good vet behaviors that we want as he grows up and gets even bigger. Dr Slack had great attention to detail to the timeline I presented ant the first app and my concerns about the bacterial skin rash that also seemed to be off and on brewing on his stomach. With this in mind we decided to go with a longer course of a different antibiotic that let us address the rash at the same time as the UTI. I was also provided with anti inflammatories and pain medication as needed for his first 2-3 days of starting treatment since he was not having a good time existing and this gave us relief until the abx kicked in full force. We just finished our two week check up where they took another sterile urine sample and verified that the UTI was completely resolved. Dr Slack also took the time to talk through a medicated shampoo plan to deal with the remaining skin concerns and how to then taper him off of needing medicated baths to not turn into a cycle of treating and overdrying, which I greatly appreciate. Overall 10/10, already recommending to others: - quiet office - quick moving to an exam room - staffing that allowed young dog learning/training opportunities versus overwhelming with baby talk and too much affection for a bouncy wrecking ball of a Labrador - great attention to detail and patience - and honestly, REALLY affordable exam fees Thank you a million times - Kennedy and Ghost Houston DogWorks

They were so sweet to my 2 cats Jackson and Marshall, I got Jackson fixed here and his kitten shots. I appreciated the staffs patience with me, I arrived very early for my appointment, because I miscalculated my timing lol and they gladly put me in a room to wait instead of waiting in the waiting room or in my car with my stressed out cats. Once inside my cats acted as if they were at home! Lol but in the car they were acting wild. The staff made them feel extra comfortable and welcomed. The pricing is about average.

This clinic has significantly declined. While the staff is friendly, the costs are exorbitant. On my first visit with a rescued stray cat, I paid $200+ for a basic checkup and vaccinations, I had no problem paying until realizing they are charging more than most clinics. A few days later, a lump appeared on the cat’s leg, possibly related to the initial treatment. When I called to have the issue addressed they were very accommodating and took us in right away, until I was quoted $248 just for an examination and medications we didn’t know we needed yet. After some discussion, the fee was reduced to $67, but at the point this still felt unreasonable for a problem likely tied to their prior care, I was just looking for a quick inspection to see if it was related or not, they wouldn’t do that without my commitment to pay. Additionally, their neutering prices are double those of most clinics in the area. If affordability and transparency matter to you, I recommend looking elsewhere. . It’s unfortunate to see a once-great clinic focus more on profits than care.

I brought my tortoise in for a wellness check and I was very impressed by the level of attention and service we received. The check in and out process was quick and easy, our technician Tung was very knowledgeable and patient, and Dr. Mai went above and beyond to make sure I left better informed on proper care.
