Welcome to Healing Paws Veterinary Rehabilitation

Healing Paws Veterinary Rehabilitation, located at 1275 Westminster St, Providence, RI 02909, USA, operates as a specialized "Pet Hospital" focusing on comprehensive rehabilitative and wellness care for animals. Founded by Dr. Jeff Corey, a veterinarian and certified veterinary rehabilitation therapist, in 2005, it was the first full-service veterinary rehabilitation center in Rhode Island. In 2016, Dr. Corey expanded his commitment to animal health by opening Armory Animal Hospital, allowing Healing Paws to seamlessly integrate specialized rehabilitation with broader veterinary services, all under one roof or in close coordination.

The environment at Healing Paws Veterinary Rehabilitation is specifically designed to be therapeutic, comfortable, and conducive to recovery and healing. Unlike a typical general practice, a rehabilitation center requires specialized equipment and a layout that supports various physical therapies. The goal is to minimize stress for pets and maximize their comfort during treatments. Information suggests that their facilities are "specially outfitted with equipment that is designed for the animal's comfort like beds and blankets" and feature "non-slip flooring" in waiting areas. The reviews consistently highlight the "caring place" and "compassionate" staff, which contributes significantly to a nurturing environment. While specific details on features like separate waiting areas for cats and dogs (common in some fear-free clinics) are not explicitly stated for this location, the general ethos points towards a calming atmosphere. The strong connection with Armory Animal Hospital implies a comprehensive facility that handles both general veterinary needs and specialized rehabilitation, potentially sharing spaces or being in very close proximity to offer a holistic approach to patient care.

Healing Paws Veterinary Rehabilitation offers a wide range of specialized services aimed at improving mobility, reducing pain, and enhancing the overall quality of life for pets. Their services extend beyond typical veterinary care to focus on recovery from injury, management of chronic conditions, and geriatric support. Key services include:

  • Rehabilitation Programs: Tailored programs for a variety of conditions, including post-surgical recovery (e.g., after cruciate ligament repair), neurological disorders (e.g., disc disease), degenerative conditions (e.g., arthritis), and sports injuries.
  • Acupuncture: As highlighted by customer reviews, acupuncture is a significant offering, used to alleviate pain, reduce inflammation, and promote healing for various ailments.
  • Laser Therapy: Utilizing Class IV therapeutic lasers to reduce pain and inflammation, and accelerate tissue healing. This is a common and highly effective modality in veterinary rehabilitation.
  • Hydrotherapy: Often involving underwater treadmills, this therapy allows pets to exercise and build strength with reduced weight-bearing stress on joints, making it ideal for recovery from injury, arthritis, and weight management.
  • Therapeutic Exercises: Customized exercise programs designed to improve strength, balance, coordination, and range of motion.
  • Manual Therapies: Techniques such as soft tissue massage, joint mobilization, and stretching to improve flexibility and reduce muscle tension.
  • Electrical Stimulation: Used for pain relief and muscle re-education.
  • Pain Management: Comprehensive approaches to managing both acute and chronic pain, often integrating multiple modalities.
  • Wellness and Preventative Care: As part of their broader connection with Armory Animal Hospital, they also offer general veterinary consultations, vaccinations, check-ups, and microchipping, providing a full circle of care for pets.
  • Nutritional Counseling: Advice on appropriate diets and supplements to support recovery and overall health.
  • Advanced Diagnostics: While not a primary diagnostic center for initial diagnoses, their affiliation with Armory Animal Hospital ensures access to comprehensive diagnostic tools when needed, for example, to assess underlying conditions impacting rehabilitation.

The features that distinguish Healing Paws Veterinary Rehabilitation emphasize their expertise, compassionate approach, and commitment to innovative therapies. Key features include:

  • Specialized Expertise: Led by Dr. Jeff Corey, a certified veterinary rehabilitation therapist, the clinic possesses specialized knowledge and experience in animal rehabilitation, offering a level of care beyond general practice.
  • Integrative Approach: They combine conventional veterinary medicine with holistic treatments like acupuncture and herbal remedies, providing a comprehensive and personalized approach to pet health.
  • State-of-the-Art Equipment: Access to advanced rehabilitation equipment such as underwater treadmills, therapeutic lasers, and electrical stimulation devices.
  • Patient-Centered Care: The clinic focuses on understanding each pet's individual needs and health history, developing tailored treatment plans. They prioritize education and a thorough understanding of what comprises the foundations of health.
  • Compassionate and Caring Staff: Customer reviews consistently highlight the kindness, professionalism, and genuine care demonstrated by Dr. Corey and the entire staff. This creates a supportive environment for pets and their owners.
  • Dedicated to Wellness and Quality of Life: The practice places the highest value on promoting and maintaining wellness and quality of life for pets, regardless of age, aiming for long-term health and happiness.
  • Focus on Education: They take the time to sit down with clients, get to know them and their pets, address all health issues, and formulate a plan to improve health and well-being. For existing clients, most appointments are 30 minutes or longer, with new patient appointments scheduled for an hour to ensure thoroughness.

Healing Paws is by far the best place to take your furry fiends. Jeff, the owner is very knowledgeable and caring. He deserves a humanitarian award for going above and beyond with his clients and employees.

I know 2 dogs who saw Dr. Corey one of which is my dog who has been going for over a year. Dr. Corey is very nice and is good at what he does. This is a great place to bring a dog for rehabilitation after leg surgery or any other type of mobility issue. They have an underwater treadmill and offer acupuncture as well as other services for improving your pet's health when medicine is not enough. They are also knowledgeable on different medicines and supplements that may also help your pet out. They also have a lot of experience with treating dogs, so they can adjust the treatment schedule to some degree based on your schedule and availability to bring your dog in.

If I could give 10 stars I would. They gave our Golden Retriever another good 1 1/2 years. When I brought him in for his first visit, he was really struggling to walk. By the end of the first treatment, he could walk better, and in a week after another treatment, was walking again! We continued to bring him back consistently for another year and a half. Everybody who works here is good at what they do, and above all else, they are kind. Dr Corey is brilliant.
