Sheila Selznick, DVM, of Greengate Animal Clinic, has cared for at least 7 of our family dogs during the last 30 years. Though most of them had been rescues, she has given all of them her careful attention and quality care. The result was that they lived long, active lives. One dog, Dixie, an especially prey-driven terrier mix, suffered from kidney stones. Dr. Selznick recommended a change in food, and within a short time the condition disappeared. Later, Dixie began to suffer the ravages of aging with resultant listlessness and apathy. Again, Dr. Selznick's suggestion for a dietary change helped Dixie enormously. She lived for over 16 years, responsive and playful to the end. I could tell similar stories about the highly effective care our other pets received at Greengate Animal Clinic. But suffice it to say that Dr. Selznick has been great for all of them.

## Environment and Atmosphere
The atmosphere at Greengate Animal Clinic, as perceived by clients, appears to be heavily influenced by the quality of care provided by the veterinarians, particularly Dr. Sheila Selznick. Positive feedback consistently highlights Dr. Selznick’s "careful attention and quality care," noting that she goes above and beyond to ensure pets "lived long, active lives." This speaks to an environment focused on thorough medical assessment and effective treatment plans. The stories of individual dogs like Dixie, who lived over 16 years with a "responsive and playful" demeanor due to Dr. Selznick's dietary recommendations, paint a picture of a clinic where personalized and impactful care is paramount. For long-term clients, the atmosphere is clearly one of trust and gratitude for consistent, high-quality veterinary expertise.
However, it is also important to consider another perspective on the clinic's atmosphere, particularly concerning initial client interactions. A recent review describes a very negative experience with the receptionist, citing rudeness and an unhelpful demeanor when trying to schedule an urgent appointment for a sick puppy. This suggests that while the medical professionals may be excellent, the initial contact point for clients might not always reflect the same level of compassion or professionalism. This dichotomy indicates that while the internal care environment for pets and the doctor-client relationships can be very strong, the administrative front-of-house interactions may at times create a less welcoming first impression, potentially impacting the overall client experience.

## Comprehensive Services
As a seasoned Pet Hospital, Greengate Animal Clinic offers a range of services designed to provide comprehensive care for pets throughout their lives. While a complete, exhaustive list of all services is not explicitly detailed in the provided information, the long history and nature of the positive reviews imply a robust offering typical of a well-established veterinary practice:
Wellness and Preventive Care: This is a foundational aspect of pet health. It would include routine examinations, vaccinations to protect against various diseases, and parasite prevention (such as for heartworms, fleas, and ticks). The emphasis on pets living "long, active lives" strongly suggests a proactive approach to wellness.
Diagnostic Services: To effectively treat conditions, accurate diagnosis is critical. This would involve a range of diagnostic tools and tests, including:
Laboratory Testing: Likely including blood work (e.g., to monitor kidney function, as with Dixie's kidney stones), urinalysis, and fecal exams to identify various health issues.
Diagnostic Imaging: Such as X-rays, which are standard for investigating internal conditions, bone issues, and foreign bodies.
Treatment of Illness and Injury: The clinic clearly excels in this area, as highlighted by Dr. Selznick's success in diagnosing and managing complex conditions like kidney stones and age-related issues through dietary changes. This indicates a strong capability in internal medicine and personalized treatment plans.
Nutritional Counseling: A key feature highlighted by the case of Dixie, where dietary changes were instrumental in resolving kidney stones and improving quality of life in old age. This points to a strong emphasis on the role of nutrition in managing and preventing various health conditions.
Senior Pet Care: Given the success stories of pets living "long" lives (Dixie living over 16 years), it's evident that Greengate Animal Clinic provides specialized care for aging pets, addressing common geriatric ailments and focusing on maintaining their comfort and activity levels.
Rescue Pet Care: The clinic's history of caring for "at least 7 of our family dogs" who were "rescues" suggests a compassionate approach and expertise in managing the unique health challenges that rescued animals may present.
The clinic likely also offers other standard veterinary services such as surgical procedures (routine and potentially more complex ones) and dental care, which are common offerings in a full-service animal hospital, though not specifically detailed in the provided reviews.

## Features and Differentiators
Greengate Animal Clinic boasts several distinctive features that set it apart:
Experienced and Long-Standing Veterinary Leadership: The consistent praise for Dr. Sheila Selznick, who has cared for multiple family dogs over "30 years," is a significant differentiator. This demonstrates remarkable consistency, deep institutional knowledge, and a strong, trusted relationship with long-term clients. Dr. Selznick's ability to solve complex issues through non-invasive methods like dietary changes highlights a thoughtful and effective approach to veterinary medicine.
Individualized and Holistic Care: The clinic appears to focus on tailored solutions, as seen with Dixie's case where specific dietary adjustments yielded significant positive results. This suggests an approach that looks beyond immediate symptoms to address the overall health and lifestyle of the pet.
Commitment to Pet Longevity and Quality of Life: The recurring theme of pets living "long, active lives" under their care underscores a fundamental objective of the clinic. They don't just treat illnesses; they strive to enhance the duration and quality of a pet's life.
Handling of Complex Cases: The example of diagnosing and treating a very sick dog when the issue was unclear, and the success with Dixie's kidney stones and aging issues, indicate a capability to manage challenging and chronic conditions effectively.
It's important to acknowledge that while the medical expertise is a clear strength, client interactions at the front desk seem to be an area where the clinic might present a different experience. The contrast between excellent veterinary care and reportedly poor administrative interactions is a notable characteristic based on current feedback.

## Promotional Information
Based on the available information, Greengate Animal Clinic's promotional aspects are less about explicit discounts and more about the inherent value of their services and reputation:
Emphasis on Long-Term Health and Longevity: The most compelling "promotion" from Greengate Animal Clinic is the testimony of pets living long and active lives under their care. This speaks to the long-term value of their medical expertise, implying that investing in their quality care can lead to fewer major health crises and a better quality of life for pets over many years, ultimately saving pet owners from potentially higher costs associated with chronic or advanced diseases.
Word-of-Mouth and Client Loyalty: The clinic's decades-long relationships with families and their multiple pets (e.g., "7 of our family dogs during the last 30 years") serve as a powerful form of organic promotion. Satisfied, long-term clients are the best advocates, and their positive experiences naturally draw new clients seeking similar trusted care.
Expertise in Nutritional Management: The success stories involving dietary changes for conditions like kidney stones and aging demonstrate a practical, effective, and potentially cost-saving approach to pet health. Promoting their expertise in nutrition could attract pet owners looking for alternative or complementary treatments that avoid more invasive or expensive interventions.
While the clinic does not seem to publicly advertise typical promotional offers like discounts on services or new client specials in the provided information, its enduring presence and the strong testimonials about Dr. Selznick's clinical efficacy are their primary forms of drawing and retaining clients. For pet owners in Greensburg, PA, seeking a veterinary partner with a proven track record in comprehensive, individualized, and compassionate care for their pets, Greengate Animal Clinic represents a well-established option.

Jul 20, 2018 · Gene SaraceniVery poor! I had called because the other clinics close to me where so booked up I was just trying to see where I could get my puppy in at. He has something going on with his ear, I was told it looks like ear mites from a reliable person who works at a vet office. So I get on the phone with the receptionist who cut me off when I was explaining what was going on with the ear, to tell me that you can’t see ear mites and you can’t tell by just looking in the ear. Then asked me where I lived and told me to just go with the clinic closer to my house. I try to tell her they are slammed and they why I’m calling and she very rudely says “well we are booked here too so” with that I said alright and hung up. I don’t know what kind of establishment you people are running here but maybe you should choose a different voice to greet your customers. I know right now is also busy I can understand but how rude she was is truly unacceptable.
