Fantastic, amazing experience. We brought our horse in for an apparent colic episode that was not cleared by our regular vet giving her fluids and medicine. Dr Burke was incredibly thorough and detail focused- he wanted to find the cause of her problems and not simply treat them in the short term. Other people have mentioned the cost- and the cost for medicine and treatments for horses are not cheap- but Dr Burke provided a breakdown of every single charge for care, and I have 0 problems with any of them. Horses are expensive but because of him we had a horse who was able to come home to us. Not only that, he knew how she took her medicine the easiest because he spent time and attention on her while she was under their care. I cannot recommend him enough. If you have concerns for cost, discuss them with him beforehand- I found no fault in their care, and their honesty. 10/10 - I will be coming back if anything further should happen for any of my horses- he and his entire team were amazing.

The environment at Fox Run Equine Center is specifically designed to accommodate the needs of horses, from robust medical facilities to areas suitable for their recovery and stable management. Their hospital boasts 22 stalls, thoughtfully divided between medical and surgical case barns, an Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and isolation areas, ensuring appropriate care for various conditions and preventing the spread of infectious diseases. This specialized infrastructure indicates a commitment to providing a safe, clean, and controlled environment for equine patients. Customer reviews highlight a sense of thoroughness and dedication from the veterinary team, suggesting an environment where horses receive focused attention and detailed diagnostic work. One review specifically mentions Dr. Burke's thoroughness in finding the root cause of issues, rather than just treating symptoms, which speaks to a methodical and comprehensive approach to care within the hospital's environment. While the facility is clearly equipped for advanced medical interventions, the focus on clear communication about costs, as noted in a positive review, also suggests a professional and transparent administrative environment, which is crucial for building trust with horse owners.
Fox Run Equine Center offers a comprehensive and advanced range of services specifically for horses. As a full-service equine hospital, their offerings extend far beyond basic care. Their services include sophisticated diagnostic capabilities such as Digital Radiography, Nuclear Scintigraphy, and an in-house laboratory for rapid and accurate test results. They also provide advanced therapeutic options like Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy (ECSWT). For critical cases, the presence of an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and specialized care for Neonatology (newborn horses) are vital services. Their surgical capabilities are robust, addressing various equine conditions, while their Internal Medicine services manage complex diseases. They excel in Lameness Diagnostics, a common and critical area for performance and recreational horses. Additionally, Fox Run Equine Center emphasizes Preventative Medicine to maintain horse health and prevent illness. They also offer Ambulatory Services for routine care and minor treatments that can be performed at the horse's location. The expertise of Dr. Brian Burks, who is board-certified by the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners in all aspects of equine medical care and is the only veterinarian to achieve this status in Western Pennsylvania, underscores the high level of specialized services available. Other specific services listed on their website include Animal Chiropractic and Stem Cell Therapy, showcasing their commitment to advanced and holistic equine care. They also manage critical situations, as evidenced by a horse brought in for an "apparent colic episode" that required intensive, detail-focused attention.
Several key features define Fox Run Equine Center and set it apart as a premier equine "Pet Hospital." Foremost among these is the expertise of Dr. Brian Burks, who is described as "incredibly thorough and detail focused" and is uniquely board-certified in equine medical care in Western Pennsylvania. This high level of specialization and commitment to finding the underlying cause of problems, rather than just short-term treatment, is a significant differentiator. The hospital's 24/7 operation and Intensive Care Unit highlight their capability to handle emergencies and critical cases around the clock, providing peace of mind for horse owners. The breadth of their advanced diagnostic tools, including Digital Radiography and Nuclear Scintigraphy, enables precise and comprehensive evaluations. Furthermore, the commitment to transparency in billing is a notable feature; despite the inherent high cost of equine medicine, Dr. Burke provides "a breakdown of every single charge for care," fostering trust and clarity for clients. The positive review emphasizes the successful outcome of sending a horse home, highlighting the effectiveness of their treatments. Conversely, a negative review mentions concerns about unauthorized charges, astronomical fees, and a "bad reputation" within the horse community regarding this doctor, suggesting that while the clinic aims for transparency, there may be instances where clients perceive a lack of communication or excessive costs. However, the positive review strongly counteracts this by praising the detailed breakdown of charges. The hospital's capacity for complex cases, its specialized equipment, and the veterinarians' dedication to intensive attention, as described by a satisfied client who noted how well the horse took medicine due to their care, are also strong features.
While explicit "promotional information" in the traditional sense (like discounts or coupons) is not extensively detailed in the provided reviews, Fox Run Equine Center engages in promotions by highlighting its advanced services and unique expertise. Their website mentions "Bargain Basement Deals" for products due to overstock, indicating that they do offer some form of product-related specials. Given their specialized nature, their primary "promotion" is often through demonstrating exceptional care and successful outcomes, leading to strong word-of-mouth referrals within the equine community. They often engage in educational outreach, such as past seminars on "Equine Respiratory Disease and Equine Asthma," which are offered for free and serve to educate horse owners while showcasing the hospital's expertise. They have also participated in FDA-regulated clinical studies for investigational medications, which, while not a direct discount, demonstrates their cutting-edge involvement in equine health research and offers potential benefits to horses participating. For the most up-to-date information on any current specials, educational events, or specific service offerings, horse owners are strongly encouraged to contact Fox Run Equine Center directly at (724) 727-3481 or +1 724-727-3481. Their focus on comprehensive, specialized care and commitment to transparency in managing potentially high costs are key aspects they leverage to attract and retain clients in the niche equine veterinary market.

Feb 20, 2025 · Andy DugginsDO NOT GO THERE! Our horse which was bought for our daughter was severely injured while at this facility. As a result he had to be put down. This doctor charges your card without permission and charges your card without telling you he is charging it. In addition charging astronomical fees. He overcharges. He destroyed our horse. I have numerous pictures and videos. If you go there make sure you document and take pictures of your horse ahead of time and while there if you choose to go to this facility. You might need later. After going here I learned by numerous people in the horse community that this doctor has a bad reputation. If I would have known this I would have never went here. We are still grieving the loss of our daughter’s horse. I would also suggest if you have a similar situation to ours that you get a necropsy done by another vet if your horse passes away. We are very glad we got one done.
Jan 06, 2025 · C TOwning animals is expensive and everyone should always budget for them. With that said, he prepared to pay exorbitantly for any admittance or surgery. The first thing they ask for is your credit card. Then you sign a paper giving them the ability to charge whatever they want. Forget giving them a budget, they will just go right over budget. Despite a $2k per day bill, no or little daily communication. Like pulling teeth getting any information. 3 stars because Dr. Burks knows horses but honestly it’s cheaper to drive 4 hours east to Penn Vet (they are actually cheaper if you can imagine that) or 3.5 hours west to Columbus. But if you are stuck and have thousands laying around, he will fix your horse if it can be fixed.
Dec 27, 2024 · PGH GuyFox Run Equine is an excellent place to take your horse. Dr. Burks is extremely helpful and one of the best veterinarians I've seen! After months of struggling with a non-healing hock injury, the horse was taken to Fox Run Equine and had surgery. Most veterinarians turned her away and said she would never heal, but after a visit to Fox Run, she was able to fully heal and be ridden soundly again!! Another neat thing was we were able to see pictures of the surgical process. Fox Run is a great educational resource, as they are always explaining Equine health and medicine
Mar 04, 2023 · Emily TrunkDr.Burks and his staff are very professional. My horse was diagnosed with Lyme and had to stay the week at the facility to receive intravenous medication. I felt very comfortable and had a peace of mind leaving him there! I knew he was in the best hands possible. They are very compassionate, reassuring and will do and or try anything to get to the root of the problem to get the best prognosis possible. I would highly recommend them. Thank you again Dr. Burks and Staff for all that you do!
