Visiting in the area. Dog is prone to ear infections and is regularly prescribed an ear med once to twice a year. When they happen there’s no real warning. Called them at 9am. We were told they were open till 5pm and to have our vet fax the script. Given fax number and rushed to get calls and things organized. Never heard from office and got answering machine rest of day. Drove there (just over an hour) and they were closed (not yet 4pm). Now a day later and still no call. Not helpful. Not impressed.

Welcome to Four Corners Veterniary Clinic

Four Corners Veterinary Clinic, located at 390 US-1, Columbia, ME 04623, USA, functions as a "Pet Hospital" serving the local community. The clinic can be reached at (207) 483-4727 for both general inquiries and mobile contact. As a "Pet Hospital," it is expected to provide a range of veterinary medical services, encompassing diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventative care for companion animals, similar to a human hospital but specifically adapted for pets.

The environment at Four Corners Veterinary Clinic elicits mixed experiences from its clientele. On one hand, for established patients, the environment is described as one of kindness and compassion, particularly during sensitive times such as euthanasia. This suggests a dedicated and empathetic staff that prioritizes the comfort and dignity of pets and their owners during difficult moments. Such a compassionate approach during end-of-life care indicates a caring and supportive atmosphere within the clinic for those who have established a relationship with it. On the other hand, the experience of a new or visiting client seeking urgent care paints a picture of a less responsive and potentially frustrating environment. The reported issues with communication—being told they were open until 5 pm but finding the clinic closed before 4 pm, and calls going to an answering machine with no subsequent callback—suggest inconsistencies in their operational environment or client management. This disparity indicates that while the clinic may excel in established, routine, or deeply empathetic services for its regulars, its capacity or process for handling new or emergency walk-in situations, especially from non-local visitors, might be less streamlined or effective. A typical "Pet Hospital" environment strives for efficiency and clear communication; the challenges described by one customer suggest areas where the clinic's administrative or accessibility environment could be improved for broader client satisfaction.

Four Corners Veterinary Clinic offers a range of services typically found in a general "Pet Hospital." Based on the provided customer reviews, their services include:

  • Routine Check-ups: The clinic is utilized for regular health assessments for pets, ensuring their ongoing wellness and early detection of potential issues. This aligns with the fundamental preventative care offered by any pet hospital.

  • Management of Common Ailments: As indicated by the instance of the dog prone to ear infections, the clinic is equipped to diagnose and prescribe medication for common recurring pet health issues. This suggests capabilities for basic diagnostics and pharmacological treatments.

  • Compassionate Euthanasia: A significant service highlighted is the compassionate handling of end-of-life care. This demonstrates a commitment to providing a peaceful and dignified passing for elderly or terminally ill pets, a crucial and deeply valued service for many pet owners. The emphasis on the pet passing away "happy and without pain" underscores their dedication to humane practices.

While specific detailed service listings, such as surgical procedures, dental care, or advanced diagnostics, are not explicitly mentioned in the provided reviews, the designation "Pet Hospital" generally implies a broader scope of services. These would typically include vaccinations, parasite control, basic diagnostic tests (blood work, urinalysis), spaying and neutering, and potentially minor surgical procedures. The incident with the ear infection suggests they handle common medical conditions, which forms the backbone of a general veterinary practice. However, the limitation of information prevents a comprehensive list of all medical and surgical capabilities beyond what is directly stated by customer experiences.

Key features of Four Corners Veterinary Clinic, as inferred from the customer feedback, present a dual perspective. On one hand, a major strength is the compassionate and kind approach of the staff, particularly during highly emotional situations such as pet euthanasia. This human-centered (or rather, pet-and-owner-centered) care is a highly valued feature, building strong bonds and loyalty with existing clients. The positive experience of an elderly dog passing away peacefully attests to a dedicated and empathetic team. This suggests a clinic that understands and prioritizes the emotional well-being of both the animal and its human companions during challenging times. On the other hand, a significant feature, albeit a negative one from a customer service standpoint, is the apparent inconsistency in communication and accessibility. The inability to get a response or accurate information regarding operating hours, and the lack of follow-up calls for an urgent prescription, point to a potential weakness in their administrative processes or responsiveness for non-established, urgent cases. This could be a critical deterrent for new clients or those in distress who rely on timely and clear communication. The clinic's location in Columbia, ME, a potentially rural area, might also factor into its operational model, where resources or staffing might differ from a high-volume urban center. Despite the communication challenges, for those who have built a relationship with the clinic, the compassionate care stands out as a defining positive feature, which is a testament to the character of the veterinary team.

Regarding promotional information, no explicit marketing campaigns, discounts, or special offers are mentioned in the provided data for Four Corners Veterinary Clinic. For many community-based "Pet Hospitals," word-of-mouth referrals from satisfied clients are the most powerful form of promotion. The strong positive testimonials about their compassionate care during euthanasia are likely a significant draw for local residents who prioritize humane end-of-life services for their pets. This type of emotional support and gentle handling can build immense trust and loyalty, leading to recommendations within the community. Conversely, the negative feedback regarding communication and accessibility might inadvertently act as a deterrent for potential new clients seeking immediate or flexible services. While the clinic might not engage in overt promotional activities, its reputation, built on both positive and negative experiences, directly influences its standing in the local market. For those considering Four Corners Veterinary Clinic, it would be advisable to establish contact directly via phone at (207) 483-4727 to ascertain current operational procedures, confirm hours, and understand their intake policies for new patients or urgent cases, especially if traveling a significant distance. This proactive communication would help set expectations and ensure alignment with their service delivery, particularly given the varied client experiences reported.

We have used them for regular checkups for our two dogs. Our elderly dog was put to sleep early this year. Everyone was kind and compassionate. Our old Pup passed away happy and without pain. We are so grateful for this clinic and all of the staff.

I love this clinic the staff is great and Dr. Toothaker is absolutely wonderful. He takes the time to explain what's going on and has been great with my cats. I won't go anywhere else.
