We took our dog here for years. When he started to get arthritis in his back legs, Forest Park recommended Librela, a once a month shot that was supposed to help. In the 13 months my dog took these shots, he lost a 3rd of his body weight, had a very hard time sitting or getting up, drank excessive amounts of water, and declined month to month. We asked questions about the medication, and were assured every time it was safe & affective. Librela ended up taking my dogs life. It caused bladder stones that kept him from being able to urinate at all. Forest Park has no on call, you are just out of luck unless its business hours. we took him to a ER vet who drained his bladder and told us to take him to his regular vet asap. we called FP the next morning, was told they would call us back. Called them back about 30 mins later to explain he had not urinated in almost 17 hours, and this was a life-or-death emergency. They told us they could not help and to reach out to an ER. The ER told us to reach out to them?!?! FP left us high and dry and wouldn't even assist in getting us into a pet ER. They took our money and failed us. They never once warned us of the awful side effects that come with Librela, and when we asked, were assured it was safe. I feel so betrayed that we were led to believe we were doing what was best for our boy, but the medication was literally killing him while we were told "it's safe". I found out after his death, the FDA had sent a letter to vets in December of 2024, basically stating to warn consumers of the risk of the adverse side effects. Forest Park never said a word. In fact, they gave him 3 more shots after that letter was sent out and never said a word to us. I asked several times for the owner of Forest Park to reach out to me, as I feel I'm owed an explanation as to why we were not warned after the FDA sent the letter, and nothing. Not a word. The silence is the reason for this review today. Not only did they take my money, but in my opinion, they are in part to blame for the death of my dog. My advice is, if you read this to the end, think twice and do your own research before allowing them to give your dog ANYTHING. They hid the side effects from us, and won't even reach out to explain why. Not even a sorry. nothing. I had to get rude to even get his records from them. Do yourself a favor, do not give your dog librela, and do not take your vets word as truth. I did this and now my boy is dead. let my story be your warning. I hope no one ever has to go through what we did.

Welcome to Forest Park Animal Clinic

Forest Park Animal Clinic, located at 4600 Chambliss Ave, Knoxville, TN 37919, USA, operates as a Pet Hospital serving the local community. As a provider of veterinary care, the clinic aims to offer services for the health and well-being of pets. Examining the available customer feedback provides a mixed perspective on the experiences of pet owners who have utilized their services.

Details regarding the specific environment of Forest Park Animal Clinic are not extensively described in the provided reviews. One positive review mentions that the clinic is "welcoming" and that the examination room was "clean." This suggests that the clinic strives to maintain a comfortable and hygienic setting for both pets and their owners. However, the negative review does not comment on the physical environment, focusing instead on the perceived quality of care and communication.

Based on the limited information from the customer reviews, the services offered at Forest Park Animal Clinic appear to include:

  • Arthritis Management: The clinic recommended and administered Librela, a monthly injection, for a dog suffering from arthritis in its back legs.
  • Routine Veterinary Care: Implied by the mention of a customer taking their dog there for years.
  • Diagnosis and Treatment of Ailments: A positive review highlights the clinic's ability to diagnose and address a health issue that a previous vet had missed.
  • Emergency Consultation (Limited): The negative review points out the absence of on-call service outside of business hours and a perceived lack of immediate assistance during a critical situation.
  • Prescription and Administration of Medications: Evidenced by the use of Librela.
  • Follow-up and Communication: The experiences regarding follow-up and communication vary significantly between the two reviews.

The customer reviews present contrasting features of Forest Park Animal Clinic:

Features Based on Negative Review:

  • Recommendation and Administration of Librela: The clinic recommended Librela as a treatment for arthritis. The reviewer alleges a failure to adequately warn about potential severe side effects, despite an alleged FDA warning issued in December 2024.
  • Lack of On-Call Emergency Service: The clinic does not appear to offer veterinary assistance outside of its regular business hours.
  • Perceived Lack of Urgency in Emergencies: The reviewer felt that the clinic did not adequately respond to a perceived life-threatening emergency involving their dog's inability to urinate.
  • Alleged Failure to Communicate Risks: The reviewer states they were repeatedly assured Librela was safe and effective and were not informed of potential adverse effects.
  • Lack of Post-Mortem Communication: The reviewer expresses disappointment at the lack of contact or explanation from the clinic's owner following their dog's death.
  • Difficulties in Obtaining Records: The reviewer mentions having to be "rude" to obtain their pet's medical records.

Features Based on Positive Review:

  • Accurate Diagnosis: The clinic successfully identified a "simple problem" that had eluded a previous veterinarian for six months.
  • Welcoming Atmosphere: The reviewer found the clinic to be welcoming.
  • Friendly Staff: The staff is described as friendly.
  • Prompt Attention: The reviewer and their pet were "immediately taken back" to a private room.
  • Cleanliness: The examination room was noted as clean.
  • Efficient Service: The nurse and doctor were described as being there "in an instant."

There is no promotional information explicitly mentioned in either of the provided customer reviews. Therefore, an objective introduction cannot include any details regarding discounts, special offers, or new client incentives based solely on this information.

For local users in Knoxville, TN, considering Forest Park Animal Clinic as their Pet Hospital, it is crucial to acknowledge the diverse experiences reported by other pet owners. One customer expresses extreme dissatisfaction and alleges a failure in care and communication regarding the use of Librela, a medication for arthritis. This review raises serious concerns about the clinic's communication regarding potential drug side effects and its handling of emergency situations outside of business hours. The timeline mentioned in the negative review, referencing an alleged FDA warning in December 2024 followed by subsequent administrations of the drug without warning, is a significant point of concern that potential clients may want to investigate further.

Conversely, another customer reports a highly positive experience, praising the clinic for accurately diagnosing a long-standing issue, its welcoming atmosphere, friendly and efficient staff, and clean environment. This positive feedback suggests that some pet owners have found the clinic to be competent and caring.

Given these contrasting experiences, local users may want to consider the following before making a decision about Forest Park Animal Clinic:

  • Inquire about Emergency Protocols: Understand the clinic's procedures for handling emergencies that occur outside of their regular business hours.
  • Discuss Medications Thoroughly: Engage in detailed conversations about any prescribed medications, including potential side effects, and ensure you are fully informed. It may be prudent to seek information from multiple sources regarding medications, especially those with known potential risks.
  • Seek Second Opinions if Necessary: If your pet has a complex or unusual condition, or if you have concerns about a recommended treatment, consider seeking a second opinion from another veterinary professional.
  • Consider the Specific Needs of Your Pet: Evaluate whether the clinic's apparent strengths (as described in the positive review) align with your pet's specific healthcare requirements.

In conclusion, Forest Park Animal Clinic in Knoxville, TN, presents a complex picture based on the available customer reviews. While one pet owner experienced a positive outcome characterized by accurate diagnosis and a pleasant clinic environment, another reports a deeply negative experience involving a specific medication and perceived failures in communication and emergency response. Local users should carefully weigh these contrasting accounts and conduct their own due diligence, including asking detailed questions about the clinic's protocols and approach to patient care, before entrusting their pets to Forest Park Animal Clinic.

Our new forever vet! They spotted such a simple problem in my dog she's been battling for 6 months. Her old vet ran all these random tests etc for nothing. This is the first time I didn't see my dog shake like a leaf at the vet. It's welcoming, everyone is friendly. We were immediately taken back to a private room, it was clean, the nurse and doc were there in an instant and I have a new healthy, happy dog at home. Very grateful and will never use another!!!

Great experience all around! Front desk staff was pleasant. We were put in an exam room right away. Vet tech arrived right at appointment time, and our vet arrived shortly as after. Very prompt, courteous, and thorough!

Took my cat for a yearly exam. They were able to get us in and out quickly while still being thorough with the process. They are open and honest about procedures and pricing too.

I changed vets based on a trusted veterinary endocrinologist who highly recommended Forest Park Animal Clinic. I couldn’t be happier with my decision. Dr. Patterson and Stephanie were unbelievably kind, caring, gentle, and knowledgeble! This practice is Certified Cat Friendly and they definitely prove that to be true! I am so thankful for Gracie’s thorough exam and for getting answers to all my questions!
