This facility aims to be a dedicated veterinary professional establishment for pets in Owatonna, MN, and the surrounding area. For prospective and current clients, understanding the clinic's environment, the range of services it offers, its distinctive features, and direct customer experiences is crucial in making informed decisions about their beloved animals' healthcare.

The environment at Fairview Animal Medical Center is designed to accommodate various aspects of veterinary care for domestic pets, primarily dogs, cats, ferrets, and rats. As a professional clinic, it would typically feature a clean and organized reception area, multiple examination rooms where pets are assessed, and specialized areas for diagnostics, surgery, and treatment. The clinic highlights its use of a "gentle touch to handle your pets so that they can be comfortable and relaxed," suggesting an effort to create a less stressful environment for anxious animals. Their website mentions an "open layout" in some sections, which might imply visibility of certain procedures or areas, fostering transparency. The facility is equipped with various modern tools to aid in diagnostics and treatment. The physical location, just south of the Steele County fairgrounds, suggests convenient access for local residents. For new clients, the clinic requires a non-refundable deposit to hold appointments, indicating a structured approach to scheduling and client management.

Fairview Animal Medical Center offers a wide and comprehensive range of veterinary services, aiming to address diverse pet health needs. Their services cover both routine preventative care and more intensive medical and surgical interventions. These include:

  • Preventative Healthcare: This cornerstone service involves annual exams and vaccinations tailored to individual pet needs. They also provide flea/tick and heartworm preventatives, along with prescription medications and foods essential for long-term health and disease prevention. Wellness care is offered for dogs, cats, ferrets, rats, and other pocket pets, emphasizing a proactive approach to health.

  • Sick Pet Care: The clinic provides general veterinary care for common illnesses and injuries, aiming to diagnose and treat conditions promptly.

  • Dentistry: Comprehensive dental services are available to maintain oral health, which is crucial for a pet's overall well-being.

  • X-ray and Ultrasound: The facility is equipped with advanced imaging technologies, including X-ray and ultrasound, which are vital for non-invasive internal diagnostics and for evaluating various health issues.

  • In-House Laboratory: The presence of an in-house laboratory enables rapid and efficient processing of blood tests, urinalysis, and other diagnostic samples, allowing for quick diagnoses and treatment plans.

  • Surgery, including Orthopedic Surgery: The clinic offers a full range of surgical services, from routine procedures like spaying and neutering to more complex orthopedic surgeries for bone and joint issues.

  • End-of-Life Care: This includes euthanasia and cremation services, providing support to pet owners during difficult times.

The clinic’s commitment to staying updated with medical advancements is evident in their range of diagnostic tools and surgical capabilities.

The features of Fairview Animal Medical Center, as highlighted by diverse client feedback, present a complex picture. On the positive side, the clinic is praised for its ability to create a comfortable environment for anxious pets, with staff who "always recognize us immediately and do great with my dog, who is incredibly anxious at the vet." The "amazing" role of "John the secretary" is specifically mentioned, indicating a high level of satisfaction with certain administrative staff members. The transparent pricing and clear explanations, as noted in a positive review, contribute to client "peace of mind," a valuable aspect of veterinary care. This suggests a commitment to clear communication and honest financial practices. The clinic aims to be a "reliable local veterinary clinic" with licensed, certified, and insured professionals, emphasizing their commitment to providing "exceptional healthcare services." They also accept various payment options, including cash, Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and CareCredit, along with supporting pet insurance, making veterinary care more accessible.

However, significant negative feedback raises serious concerns regarding other features, particularly concerning the interaction with specific veterinarians. One highly critical review explicitly names "Dr. Boisen" and alleges a refusal to "LISTEN to the problem," acting "like a self righteous God who refused to pay attention." This client, a nurse with extensive medical education, describes a situation where their service dog was in pain and needed anxiety medication for hip issues, but the doctor allegedly dismissed their concerns and refused the medication, stating "Its not for pain" despite the owner clarifying it was for anxiety to keep the dog calm. The client felt subjected to "abuse and misdiagnoses," incurred "THOUSANDS" in expenses over the summer without resolution, and ultimately had their animals "pulled from this clinic." The client also reports being "fired" by the doctor after demanding their dog's records and witnessing the doctor "ALWAYS yelling on the phone to clients." These critical reviews highlight a severe breakdown in veterinarian-client communication, perceived arrogance, lack of empathy, and potentially inadequate diagnostic thoroughness for chronic conditions. The stark contrast between the positive and negative feedback suggests that while some staff members excel in client relations and patient care, the overall experience can be highly variable and deeply unsatisfactory for others, particularly concerning interactions with specific doctors.

For local users in Owatonna, MN, the promotional information for Fairview Animal Medical Center is a blend of their stated mission and the community's direct experiences. The clinic actively promotes itself as offering "expert care for domestic pets" and being a "complete service veterinary hospital" that welcomes new clients. Their online presence likely emphasizes their wide range of services, modern equipment, and convenient location. They aim to be a "reliable" and "proactive" partner in pet wellness. Promotional efforts also include a specific policy for new clients requiring a non-refundable deposit to secure appointments, which is then applied to the visit. This indicates a structured approach to managing demand and commitments. However, the promotional message is heavily counterbalanced by the critical client reviews, which detail concerning experiences with communication, diagnosis, and professional demeanor. These reviews serve as a powerful informal "promotion" of potential pitfalls for prospective clients. Pet owners considering Fairview Animal Medical Center should weigh both the positive testimonials about friendly staff and effective routine care against the serious concerns raised regarding certain veterinarians' communication styles and diagnostic practices. Interested individuals can contact Fairview Animal Medical Center by phone at (507) 451-4591 or via mobile at +1 507-451-4591. Their hours of operation are Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with the clinic closed on Saturdays and Sundays. It is advisable for prospective clients to engage in thorough due diligence, perhaps even arranging a preliminary consultation, to assess if the clinic's approach aligns with their expectations for their pet's care and their own needs as a client.

I have had my animals pulled from this clinic looking for pills refill Dr Boisen refused to LISTEN to the problem he ASSUMED he acted like a self righteous God who refused to pay attention. Over the summer we have spent THOUSANDS at this clinic ~ my service dog was and is in pain he refused to listen to why my service dog needed anxiety meds to settle him during his hip issues .... "Its not for pain" well no kidding. You mean something for anxiety to keep hin calm is not for pain. John the secretary is amazing He "fired me" after i pulled my animals demanding my dogs records. - This Dr is always ALWAYS yelling on the phone to clients he can be good to the animals hes horrible to humans.

I bring all of my pets to Fairview Animal Medical Center and have for years. Their service is top notch. Dr. Boisen is honest and doesn't push unnecessary procedures. They have always been very flexible and accommodating with our pets visit. You can really tell the staff love and care for all animals. Recently I found a lost dog in my neighborhood. I brought her to Fairview and the Vet Techs were very helpful! They checked for a microchip, she didn't have one, so they called the non-emergency line and got everything lined up to have Animal Control come pick her up. THANK YOU Fairview for being awesome!

Dr. Boisen and his staff are excellent at taking care of any questions or pet needs. I have a dog boarding business so I rely on them for vaccine, and pet care questions on a regular basis. Their response time is almost immediate. They are very detailed and thorough with their care and prognosis and truly love what they do as it shows in the care they provide.
