3.15.2025 If I could leave negative stars for today's experience, I would. We were less than impressed with the lack of actual care provided to our dog from Enchanted Mountains today. The staff was friendly and accommodating, but the veterinarian seemed unable to determine and proceed with any treatment plan. They reminded us of Penn Highlands - run lots of tests, charge you lots of money, and do nothing. The dog's electrolytes were out of balance, and he had a 25,000 white blood cell count with a few other markers that indicated possible pancreatitis. Our observations also indicated possible sepsis. He was lethargic, dry heaving and becoming worse by the minute. Minimaly, they should have started IV antibiotics and fluids for his electrolytes immediately. Instead, even when support items were repeatedly asked about, they left him alone in a strange room with no treatment or family getting steadily worse. We were there four hours, and they only provided IV fluids when asked repeatedly by us and completely refused to provide antibiotics. The first question the Erie clinic veterinarian asked us was if they had given him antibiotics. Really?! We ended up referred to Erie, which was excellent, but we are still left wondering if they had actually done anything besides run tests at Enchanted Mountains if the end result may have been different. Additionally, upon arriving at Erie, none of our records had been transferred to them. They had over an hour and a half to do this. Am I knowledgeable enough to make these statements? Yes, I was previously a medical laboratory technician for the military and grew up on a working, functional dairy farm. I currently am in education. My experience with animals and medicine is broad and deep. When our animals require veterinary emergency care, it is a true emergency. Enchanted Mountains may try to explain this away, but the bottom line here is that they did not provide adequate care to a patient. Rest in peace, sweet boy.

Welcome to Enchanted Mountains Urgent Veterinary Care
Enchanted Mountains Urgent Veterinary Care, located at 700 W State St, Olean, NY 14760, USA, serves as a crucial resource for pet owners in the Southern Tier Region of upstate New York. Operating under the "Pet Hospital" category, this facility specializes in urgent care for sick and injured pets, bridging the gap when primary family veterinarians are closed or at their busiest. Their mission is to work in collaboration with both family veterinarians and specialists to ensure the best possible outcomes for pets in need of immediate attention.
For communication and scheduling, Enchanted Mountains Urgent Veterinary Care can be reached by phone at (716) 257-4830 or via mobile at +1 716-257-4830. Texting is noted as the preferred method for pre-arrival questions and prompt responses. The hospital operates seven days a week, including weekends, from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM, making it highly accessible for emergencies that often occur outside of regular business hours. This consistent availability addresses a significant need in the region, as it is reportedly the only emergency vet clinic within a 1.5-hour drive of Olean.
Enchanted Mountains Urgent Veterinary Care aims to provide an environment that is as comfortable as possible for both pets and their owners, particularly given the stressful nature of urgent care visits. They are equipped with separate waiting areas for cats and dogs, a thoughtful feature designed to reduce anxiety for feline patients, who can often be more stressed by the presence of dogs. This segregation helps to ensure a calmer experience for all animals during their wait.
Upon arrival, the process is streamlined to prioritize immediate pet assessment. Clients are encouraged to text or call upon arrival, and pets are often taken directly to the treatment area by the staff. This quick transition aims to minimize stress for the pet and allow the medical team to begin evaluating the patient promptly. The clinic also features a "people-only" waiting area with comfortable seating and refreshments, acknowledging the emotional strain on pet owners. Furthermore, a quiet, comfortable room is available for private needs, such as nursing pets or for owners to find a moment of peace, emphasizing their commitment to emotional support during difficult times. The clinic utilizes a fully paperless and cloud-based record system (Instinct), which streamlines operations and allows for efficient patient tracking from check-in to discharge, enhancing overall patient care and administrative efficiency.
Enchanted Mountains Urgent Veterinary Care provides a focused range of services tailored to urgent and immediate pet health needs. Their primary goal is to resolve minor to moderate health concerns and injuries, and to stabilize severe illnesses or trauma to improve chances of survival should a referral to a more intensive care facility be necessary. They also provide compassionate and timely humane euthanasia when appropriate, offering support during end-of-life decisions.
The diagnostic capabilities at Enchanted Mountains Urgent Veterinary Care are robust and designed for rapid assessment. They feature a full in-house laboratory capable of performing a wide array of tests, including Complete Blood Count (CBC), Chemistry panels, Blood Gas analysis, Urinalysis, Coagulation profiles, Cytology, and Fecals. This immediate access to results is critical in urgent care situations, allowing for quick diagnoses and treatment plans. Advanced imaging includes digital radiography (X-rays) for whole-body imaging, with the option for specialist review, and ultrasound for detailed internal examinations. The clinic also uses a Tonopen for ocular diagnostics, including checking intraocular pressure.
Surgical services are provided on a case-by-case basis, addressing both minor procedures like laceration repair, wound treatment, and abscess drainage, and major surgeries when feasible. The clinic is equipped with a full surgical suite to facilitate these procedures. Other vital capabilities include Blood or Plasma Transfusions (when available), Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) services, Oxygen Therapy, and the provision of plasma products and Intralipid. They also maintain an in-house pharmacy for immediate access to necessary medications and an IV fluid warmer for patient comfort and care.
It is important to note that Enchanted Mountains Urgent Veterinary Care, as an urgent care facility, does not offer routine wellness or maintenance care, general dentistry, or overnight hospitalization. Their model is similar to a human urgent care clinic, providing immediate attention to acute issues and referring more complex or long-term care to primary veterinarians or specialized emergency hospitals.
Enchanted Mountains Urgent Veterinary Care distinguishes itself as the first practice in the Southern Tier Region specifically focused on urgent care for sick and injured pets. This specialization addresses a critical need for accessible immediate veterinary attention in the area, particularly when other clinics are closed. Their operational hours, extending from 10 AM to 8 PM daily, including weekends, are a key feature that makes them highly accessible.
The clinic is owned by Dr. Katie Gies, who has extensive experience in emergency medicine since 2006. Her leadership, coupled with a staff of licensed technicians, assistants, and receptionists, ensures a professional and supportive environment. The team is described as friendly and accommodating, with a strong focus on compassionate care, even when faced with challenging medical cases. Their commitment to clear communication is evident in their process: after an initial exam, the veterinarian communicates findings and discusses diagnostic and treatment options with the owner, ensuring transparency and collaborative decision-making.
The facility is described as "well-equipped" with modern technology, including IDEXX in-house lab equipment for rapid and comprehensive diagnostics, Sonoscape ultrasound, and digital X-ray. The ability to handle a variety of cases from minor to complex, with a typical caseload of 20-30 cases per shift, highlights their capacity and experience in urgent care scenarios. The clinic's operational model means no on-call or overnight shifts for their staff, which can contribute to a more focused and well-rested team during their active hours.
Enchanted Mountains Urgent Veterinary Care's primary promotional strength lies in its unique position as a dedicated urgent care facility in a region with limited immediate veterinary options. Their availability during hours when primary vets are often closed is a significant draw. While specific promotional offers aren't detailed, their commitment to working with family veterinarians and specialists demonstrates a collaborative approach to pet health within the broader community, enhancing their reputation as a reliable referral center.
Client reviews offer a mixed but informative perspective. One review, dated March 15, 2025, expresses significant dissatisfaction, citing a perceived lack of a definitive treatment plan, insufficient immediate interventions (such as IV antibiotics and fluids) despite concerning diagnostic markers, and a general feeling of inadequate care, leading to a referral that felt delayed. This feedback highlights potential areas for improvement in communication regarding treatment strategies and the timely transfer of patient records to referral facilities.
Conversely, another review praises the "absolutely amazing vet and staff" for their quick and thorough help with a sick cat. This positive experience, where prompt diagnostics (X-rays) led to effective treatment (IV fluids) and a rapid recovery, reflects the successful application of their urgent care model. The reviewer emphasizes the compassion and friendliness of the team, suggesting that positive interactions and successful outcomes are indeed a part of their service. The mention of "decent pricing considering you're going for 'emergency' reasons" also indicates that while urgent care typically comes at a premium, clients find their costs reasonable within that context.
In conclusion, Enchanted Mountains Urgent Veterinary Care is a vital facility providing accessible and specialized urgent veterinary care in Olean, NY. While aiming to provide comprehensive care and support during critical times, client experiences can vary, highlighting the ongoing challenge of managing complex medical cases under urgent conditions. Their state-of-the-art diagnostics and dedicated team are significant assets, and continuous focus on refining treatment protocols and inter-clinic communication will further solidify their role as a trusted partner in pet healthcare.

Mar 28, 2025 · Cynthia WolfelAbsolutely amazing vet and staff. They were quick and thorough helping my kitty Mew. She wasn’t eating or going to the bathroom and I knew she needed to be seen. They got me in as soon as they opened, did some X-rays and explained the possibilities of what was going on. We opted to give her IV fluids and a recheck xray at the end of the night to see if things were moving. Sure enough, when I went to pick her she was already looking much better. Once we got home she was going to the bathroom and eating again! Cannot thank everyone there enough for their compassion and friendliness to me and my kitty. (Pics because she’s a cutie)
May 14, 2025 · Hannah NelsonThis clinic is one of the premier veterinary clinics in the region--their compassion, attention to detail, profound care for our beloved companion animals, the facility, itself, and brilliant doctors make it my only choice for an emergency during their open hours (seven days per week, 10 AM-8 PM). They fill a desperately needed niche in this region of Western New York. My spouse and I have (too many) beloved companion animals, many of whom have chronic health issues and accidents and unforeseen illnesses are always a possibility with animals--a fact that we are all too well aware of. We have had to use Enchanted Mountains Urgent Veterinary Care's humane euthanasia services for a few of our kiddos, and I wouldn't recommend any other clinic more. The doctors, reception staff, and patient care team are all unwaveringly empathetic and caring. A deeply appreciated gem in our community. Thank you Dr. Gies and Team!!!!
Mar 30, 2025 · Ash & Perri GardenerWe drove an hour and 45 minutes to get there. We got right in. We brought our beautiful Kitty in for a severe breathing issue, not knowing it was the last time we would get to see her. Unfortunately, we had to make the hardest decision as we did not want her suffering because of her condition. The vet and staff/team were so kind and compassionate. They explained everything and reassured us of our decisions. While I I couldn’t even hold myself together, they just listened with the utmost care. I’m glad my husband was able to be with her in her final moments. I appreciate everything they did and giving us the privacy we needed before, during, and after. They made us some beautiful paw prints, a nose print and made sure we got some of our baby’s fur as a keepsake. A week later we also received a lovely card and it meant a lot to us. While the outcome wasn’t what we wanted, I am grateful to them for everything they did for us and our sweet Kitty.
Nov 08, 2024 · Dana HansenNothing but good things to say about this clinic! We got right in and the wait time wasn’t bad at all! Very compassionate, caring staff when the news they had to give me wasn’t good news. I am thankful as I was able to spend 18 wonderful days with my boy from diagnoses to when he had to be laid to rest ❤️ and I know my old boy was thankful for you too!
