I brought my bird there for a nail trimming because this is the only office around with an avian vet. Big mistake. I arrived 30min early because I knew that as a new patient, I would need to fill out some paperwork. The people at the desk were wonderful. I ended up waiting past my appointment time, but that isn't what bothered me. Dr. Gould seemed very condescending and dismissive. I told him that my bird was there just for the trimming and he continued to ask questions as if I brought the bird in with an illness, only afterwards inquiring "If she isn't sick, what brings you here?" He then picked apart everything I was doing with the bird from claiming the diet her breeder recommended for me (pellet-seed mix with fresh fruits and veggies) was total junk and that having her out of the cage for 7hrs a day wasn't long enough. I work and that bird is out of the cage from 6am when I wake up until 8am when I leave and right when I get home, she's out again until bed at 9:30pm. He was condescending and treated me like I was a child, choosing instead to talk to his assistant rather than consult me. He clipped her nails and left, but I was charged for a full office visit. Probably never going here again if I have to see him.

Welcome to Dr Jay Gould
Dr. Jay Gould operates a veterinary practice located at 91 County Rd, Mattapoisett, MA 02739, USA. Based on available information, this clinic is noted as being the only local office with an avian veterinarian, indicating a specialization in the care of birds. For local users seeking veterinary services specifically for their avian pets, Dr. Jay Gould's practice presents itself as a potentially necessary resource within the community.
While specific details regarding the clinic's environment are not provided in the reviews, the mention of a reception desk with "wonderful" staff suggests a welcoming initial point of contact for pet owners. However, it's important to note that this positive aspect of the front desk experience was contrasted with subsequent interactions. Further information about the overall ambiance, waiting areas, examination rooms, and any specialized facilities for avian care is not available in the provided reviews.
The primary service mentioned in the customer feedback is nail trimming for birds. The fact that clients sought out this specific service highlights the availability of avian-specific care at this location, which can be a significant feature for bird owners in the area. However, the experience surrounding this seemingly routine procedure, as described by the reviewers, raises important considerations.
According to the identical reviews provided, a customer bringing their bird in solely for a nail trimming reported a negative interaction with Dr. Gould. The reviewer detailed an experience where, despite clearly stating the reason for the visit, Dr. Gould reportedly asked questions as if the bird was ill before inquiring about the actual purpose of the appointment. Following this, the reviewer described Dr. Gould as being "condescending and dismissive," allegedly criticizing the bird's diet (a pellet-seed mix with fresh fruits and vegetables recommended by the breeder) as "total junk" and suggesting that the bird's out-of-cage time (approximately 13.5 hours daily, accounting for the owner's work schedule) was insufficient.
The reviews further state that Dr. Gould purportedly treated the owner in a condescending manner, preferring to communicate with his assistant rather than directly consulting with the pet owner. Despite the limited service of a nail trim, the reviewer reported being charged for a full office visit. This discrepancy between the service received and the billing amount contributed to the negative experience. The identical nature of the two reviews suggests a consistent negative encounter for at least one pet owner.
A significant feature of Dr. Jay Gould's practice, as highlighted by the reviewers' initial reason for visiting, is the presence of an avian veterinarian. Avian veterinary specialists possess specific knowledge and expertise in the unique health needs of birds, making their services invaluable for bird owners. In areas where such specialists are scarce, this can be a crucial resource for routine care, specialized treatments, and managing avian-specific illnesses.
However, the reported negative interactions with Dr. Gould raise concerns about the overall client experience. Effective veterinary care involves not only medical expertise but also clear communication, respect for pet owners, and a collaborative approach to pet health. The reported condescending and dismissive behavior, coupled with the billing for a full office visit for a limited procedure, detracts from the potential benefit of having an avian specialist available locally.
Promotional information is not included in the provided reviews. Therefore, details regarding any special offers, discounts, or specific services being promoted by Dr. Jay Gould's practice are unavailable. Local users would need to contact the clinic directly to inquire about such information.
In conclusion, Dr. Jay Gould's practice in Mattapoisett, MA, serves as a pet hospital with the notable feature of having an avian veterinarian, which is a significant resource for bird owners in the surrounding area. The welcoming experience reported with the front desk staff is a positive aspect. However, the provided customer reviews detail negative interactions with Dr. Gould, citing concerns about condescending and dismissive behavior, a lack of direct communication with the pet owner, and billing practices that did not align with the limited service received. These experiences highlight the importance of considering all aspects of veterinary care, including both the medical expertise and the quality of client interaction.
Prospective clients seeking avian veterinary care from Dr. Jay Gould should be aware of the experiences shared in these reviews. While the availability of an avian specialist is a key advantage, the reported issues with communication and client interaction may influence the overall satisfaction with the services provided. It is recommended that local users consider these points and potentially seek further information or clarification from the clinic directly regarding their approach to client communication, consultation practices, and billing procedures.
