Welcome to Critical & Emergency Care
Introducing Critical & Emergency Care, a pet hospital located at 3930 N Buffalo St, Orchard Park, NY 14127, USA. As a dedicated facility within the platform category of "Pet Hospital," Critical & Emergency Care focuses on providing immediate and specialized medical attention for pets facing critical illnesses, injuries, or other urgent health situations. Unlike general veterinary practices that primarily offer routine and preventative care, a critical and emergency care hospital is equipped and staffed to handle life-threatening conditions that require immediate intervention.
The environment of Critical & Emergency Care is specifically designed to address urgent medical needs. You can likely expect a triage area for rapid assessment of incoming patients, advanced monitoring equipment, an intensive care unit (ICU) for critically ill animals requiring continuous support, surgical suites equipped for emergency procedures, and potentially advanced imaging capabilities such as digital radiography and ultrasound. The atmosphere is typically fast-paced and focused, with a team prepared to handle a wide range of medical crises. The emphasis is on efficiency and providing the highest level of care under pressure.
As a pet hospital specializing in critical and emergency care, the services offered are tailored to address urgent and life-threatening situations. These services typically include:
- Emergency Medical Care: This is the core of their service, involving immediate assessment, stabilization, and treatment for pets experiencing sudden illness, trauma (such as car accidents or falls), poisoning, severe allergic reactions, breathing difficulties, and other acute medical emergencies.
- Critical Care: For pets with unstable or life-threatening conditions, Critical & Emergency Care provides intensive medical support in their ICU. This may include continuous monitoring of vital signs (heart rate, breathing, blood pressure), oxygen therapy, intravenous fluid and medication administration, blood transfusions, and nutritional support.
- Emergency Surgery: The hospital is equipped to perform a variety of emergency surgical procedures, such as addressing internal bleeding, foreign body obstructions, bloat (GDV), wound repair, and other conditions requiring immediate surgical intervention.
- Diagnostic Services: To quickly and accurately assess a pet's condition, Critical & Emergency Care likely offers rapid in-house laboratory testing (blood work, urine analysis, etc.) and advanced imaging services like digital radiography (X-rays) and potentially ultrasound to visualize internal organs.
- Pain Management: Ensuring the comfort of patients in critical or painful conditions is a priority. They will employ various pain management strategies, including medications and other supportive therapies.
- Consultation and Referral: In some cases, after initial stabilization, pets may require specialized care beyond the scope of emergency services. Critical & Emergency Care can provide consultations and facilitate referrals to board-certified specialists.
- Euthanasia Services: While their primary focus is on saving lives, in cases of severe and irreversible conditions where quality of life cannot be maintained, they also provide compassionate euthanasia services. However, as indicated in one of the reviews, it is advisable to explore all options and seek thorough explanations before considering this.
The features of Critical & Emergency Care likely include:
- 24/7 Availability (Potentially): Many emergency and critical care facilities operate around the clock to provide immediate care whenever needed. It is advisable to confirm their operating hours directly.
- Specialized Staff: The team typically includes veterinarians with specialized training in emergency and critical care, as well as experienced veterinary technicians and nurses skilled in managing complex and critical cases.
- Advanced Equipment and Technology: They are equipped with the necessary monitoring devices, ventilators, infusion pumps, and other advanced medical equipment to support critically ill patients.
- Rapid Response: The focus is on quick assessment and intervention to stabilize patients and improve outcomes in emergency situations.
Currently, there is no specific promotional information available for Critical & Emergency Care in the provided text. Emergency veterinary services often do not have routine promotions due to the unpredictable nature of their use. The cost of emergency care can vary depending on the severity of the condition and the treatments required. It is always recommended to inquire about the estimated costs of procedures and treatments upfront, if possible, during an emergency situation.
The customer reviews for Critical & Emergency Care present a mixed perspective. One reviewer highly recommends the facility, praising the kindness, understanding, and thoroughness of the staff, as well as the clear communication regarding procedures aimed at the best outcome for the pet. Another reviewer expresses "mixed feelings," particularly about their last experience. A third reviewer states that the facility does a "great job" caring for furry family members.
More specific feedback points to the veterinary technicians or nurses being "very sweet" and considered the "best aspect" of the place. However, a significant concern is raised regarding the actual veterinarians, with one reviewer stating they "leave a lot to be desired sadly." This is a critical point for pet owners to consider. Furthermore, one reviewer strongly advises exploring every option before agreeing to euthanasia, sharing a personal experience where their puppy survived after they refused this course of action. This suggests that while the technical staff may be commendable, there might be concerns about the veterinarians' approach to treatment recommendations, particularly regarding end-of-life decisions.
In conclusion, Critical & Emergency Care in Orchard Park, NY, serves as a Pet Hospital specializing in urgent and critical veterinary needs. While some reviewers praise the kindness and thoroughness of the staff, particularly the technicians, there are notable concerns raised about the veterinarians and the recommendations made, especially regarding euthanasia. Local users in need of emergency veterinary services should be aware of these mixed reviews. It is advisable to seek clear and comprehensive explanations for all proposed treatments and to feel comfortable asking questions and exploring all available options for their pet's care. Contacting Critical & Emergency Care directly at (716) 662-6660 or +1 716-662-6660 for immediate needs is crucial in an emergency, but being informed about the range of experiences reported by other pet owners is also important.

Feb 27, 2025 · Rhonda HickeyI have mixed feelings about this place. Especially after our last experience here. This facility does a great job of taking care of our furry family members. The techs or nurses are very sweet and are the best aspect of this place hands down! With that said, the actual vets leave a lot to be desired sadly. There is a lot more I could say, however, out of respect I'll close with this, please explore every option before attempting to convince that euthanasia is the best course of action. My puppy is alive, well, and happy because I refused to agree with putting him down!
Feb 04, 2025 · Dave MThe last thing I wanted to do is go to an emergency vet an hour away from home, but our experience was great! The facilities are clean, very professional, organized, calm, checked us in, ran diagnostics and had a diagnosis and treatment plan in under an hour. Lots of parking. Thoughtfully designed waiting room. Staff throughout was wonderful. Competent, knowledgeable, and compassionate. We will be heading back there for surgery soon, and feel as though we are in very good hands.
Oct 08, 2023 · Stacey SheehanMy dog had abdominal surgery and was shaking and puking. We took her to this emergency vet and she got blood taken, and ultrasound, and medication. It only cost $200. I was surprised by how cheap. Surgery is very expensive there though, it would've cost 4 grand and it was free through my vet.
