CHOOSE SOMEONE ELSE IF POSSIBLE. I hired Laurie Gallatin to work with me as a rookie breeder. Her facility is literally 7 miles up the road and she specializes as an "Equine Repro Vet". I have had horses on and off for about 30 years. This was my first experience in the breeding arena and felt very fortunate to have an expert nearby. I stressed to this vet that I was a newbie about a half dozen times and she assured me that she would be there for me. When my mare had her foal, we reported clinical signs that an "expert" should have realized were big problems. The foal could not stand unassisted and was not nursing. Her advice: keep trying to stand the filly and keep pushing to nurse. Dr. Gallatin has promised...and I stress PROMISED to be on our farm within 18 hours to perform an igG test to ensure that the foal received antibodies from the mother's milk. This vet failed to direct us appropriately or respond to our concerns. The foal showed some signs of improvement and then failed rapidly. We finally grew concerned because this vet did not show up, was not providing feedback or direction and we took the foal to OSU. The igG level was 0. It was too late to save the filly and she died 32 hours after her birth. We were heartbroken because of all the hope and hard work we had put into this foal, which we loved. We could accept if our horse just died...I could accept if she told me that she was overbooked and to take the filly to OSU for emergency care (which I ultimately did to the tune of $3,500)...I could accept if Dr Gallatin showed up and did her best and the filly died. SHE JUST DIDN'T SHOW UP...EVER! This filly did not have to die. The next day she texted me and said "that must have been a bad bug..." NICE. Please think long & hard before you choose this vet. It may not seem to matter to you now, but if your horse was in distress and someone you trusted just blew you off and your horse died, I guarantee you that you would feel differently. Can you ever trust someone who just doesn't show up??? We lost thousands because of her carelessness, lack of response or direction and win some-lose some attitude. Our bills were always paid with her & we spent a great deal of time and money giving remarkable care to this mare to produce a healthy foal and a standard, required test could have saved her life. We are filing a complaint with the Ohio Veterinary Medical Licensing Board and following this through in any way we can at any expense necessary. Simple communication and direction not to mention trust is essential with equine vets. Professionals in the breeding industry just couldn't believe this lack of response from an equine veterinarian. OSU gladly provided us an alternate treatment plan for the future. Lastly, she couldn't produce liability insurance...makes you wonder why?

Laurie is a fantastic, well rounded vet and a great person. She is a pleasure to work with and has done the work at Old Oak Farm for years (maintenance, dentals, repro, lameness, injury, pre-purchase, and weirdness that cant even be described :-). She's hard working, extremely knowledgable and compassionate. She keeps her sense of humor even when things are rough. We have over 20 horses and she also does all the wellness care for all my dogs and cats. She understands the unique problems facing equine management today and she always has alternatives and great advice that goes above and beyond the typical standard of care seen today.
