My treasured mare died on the surgery table at a local equine hospital. Chenault was recommended as a cremation service as they are nearby, in the same town. I requested individual cremation through the veterinary hospital where she died. That was 9 days ago. I have yet to hear anything from Chenault though I have called numerous times. No one has answered the phone. Or answered my message. The equine hospital billed me $1,500+ for the cremation but no one can tell me anything in terms of when the cremains can be picked up. I find this frustrating and blatantly inconsiderate. Feels like pure business, no care or decency here. When my 38 year-old horse passed away on the farm, I used Agape Cremation. They answered their phones immediately, kept me in the loop as to how the process was proceeding, and I had the cremains within a week. They were kind and professional. I now wish I had used Agape services for my mare. Given the lack of communication, nonexistent attention to customer care and the amount of time that has elapsed, I highly doubt that the cremains I receive will be those of my own horse, though I paid for individual cremation. Moreover, Chenault charged me twice what I paid Agape, for a horse the same size (cost is based upon weight). I am former veterinary lab technician who worked for the then-president of the American Animal Hospital Association some years ago, before returning to school. Starting out, I was initially the weekend kennel manager. As such, my job responsibilities included operating the crematory and properly cremating individual deceased, beloved pets for their grieving owners. Proper procedure and process was always carried out in a timely and respectful manner. Nothing like what I am subject to with the Chenault cremation Business. In summary, one is better off to use the Agape service, located in Richmond, if an animal you love and cherish has passed away and cremation is preferred. Agape will be respectful, communicative and timely.

Welcome to Chenault Veterinary Cremation
Welcome to the introduction of Chenault Veterinary Cremation, located at 351 Hill Carter Pkwy, Ashland, VA 23005, USA. You can contact them at (804) 537-5764 or their mobile number, +1 804-537-5764. Chenault Veterinary Cremation specializes in providing pet cremation services for grieving pet owners in Ashland, VA, and the surrounding areas. Based on the available customer reviews, experiences with their services appear to vary significantly, particularly concerning communication and pricing.
As Chenault Veterinary Cremation focuses specifically on cremation services, the environment is likely geared towards the respectful handling of deceased pets and the facilitation of the cremation process. While the reviews do not describe the facility's ambiance, one positive aspect mentioned is the availability of urns, with one customer noting the good quality and rapid shipment of a purchased urn. This suggests that Chenault Veterinary Cremation offers related goods to accompany their primary service.
The core service offered by Chenault Veterinary Cremation is the cremation of deceased pets. One reviewer specifically requested and paid for individual cremation for their horse. However, this same review raises serious concerns about the process, citing a lack of communication over nine days despite numerous attempts to contact Chenault. The reviewer also expressed doubt about whether the cremains received would indeed be those of their horse, given the lack of updates and the extended timeframe. This indicates that while individual cremation is offered, the execution and communication surrounding this service may be inconsistent.
In contrast, another customer reported a "positive experience during this sad time," finding the service "helpful and accommodating." This customer purchased an urn that was shipped quickly and was of good quality. This suggests that when the service meets expectations, customers can be satisfied, particularly with the products offered, such as urns.
Several features and potential drawbacks can be identified from the customer feedback:
- Availability of Individual Cremation: This service is offered, catering to owners who wish to receive the ashes of their specific pet. However, the reliability and communication surrounding this service appear to be a point of concern based on one detailed negative review.
- Sale of Urns: Chenault Veterinary Cremation offers urns for the cremains, with at least one customer praising the quality and speed of shipment. This provides a convenient option for owners seeking a final resting place for their pet's ashes.
Conversely, the negative review highlights significant issues:
- Lack of Communication: A major point of criticism is the difficulty in contacting Chenault Veterinary Cremation and the failure to provide updates on the cremation process. This lack of responsiveness caused considerable frustration and anxiety for one pet owner.
- Pricing Concerns: One customer found Chenault's pricing to be twice as much as another local cremation service (Agape Cremation) for a horse of similar size, suggesting that their services may be more expensive.
- Doubts About Individual Cremation Integrity: The prolonged silence and lack of communication led one owner to doubt whether they would receive the ashes of their own pet, despite paying for individual cremation.
There is no specific promotional information available in the provided text. However, the mention of urn sales could imply that they offer a range of these products at different price points. Potential customers would need to inquire directly about the costs of cremation services and any available urns.
In conclusion, Chenault Veterinary Cremation in Ashland, VA, offers pet cremation services, including individual cremation, and sells urns. While one customer reported a positive experience with their helpfulness and the quality of an urn, another detailed a highly negative experience characterized by a severe lack of communication, high pricing compared to a competitor, and concerns about the integrity of the individual cremation process. This contrasting feedback suggests that the quality of service experienced at Chenault Veterinary Cremation may vary. Local users considering their services should weigh these experiences and perhaps seek further information or clarification regarding their processes and communication practices before making a decision. If clear and timely communication and potentially more competitive pricing are priorities, some customers have recommended alternative services like Agape Cremation in Richmond.
