We recently switched to this vet after moving to Red Hook, attracted by the clean facility, proximity, and seemingly caring staff. However, we were extremely disappointed with their inability to assist during a family emergency (death of a loved one) that causes us to have to leave the state abruptly. Our dog has epilepsy and requires life-saving medication twice a day. One of the prescriptions is a controlled substance, so even if we had time to refill it before leaving New York unexpectedly, state regulations prevent filling it any earlier than the day before it's due. When we needed a prescription refill out of state, they claimed it was impossible and that no New York vet could help, offering no solutions. This was false, as our former vet in Williamsburg promptly called in the prescription for us as they have many times before when we go out of state for a month in the summer or a month over the holidays. For a vet that charges $700 every six months for epilepsy care, their lack of effort or knowledge is unacceptable. We will be returning to our old vet, despite the 45-minute commute.

Welcome to Carroll Gardens Veterinary Group
Welcome to Carroll Gardens Veterinary Group, a pet hospital located at 455 Court St, Brooklyn, NY 11231, USA. Serving the local community, this veterinary practice aims to provide comprehensive care for your beloved animal companions. As a pet hospital with an integrated pharmacy, Carroll Gardens Veterinary Group offers a range of services and convenient access to necessary medications for your pet's health and well-being. While specific details about the clinic's ambiance and interior design are best experienced during a visit, customer feedback provides insights into the facility and staff.
As a pet hospital, Carroll Gardens Veterinary Group functions as a central point for various veterinary services. Their offerings typically include routine wellness examinations, vaccinations, preventative care (such as parasite control), dental care, and the diagnosis and treatment of illnesses and injuries. The presence of an on-site pharmacy enhances their ability to provide comprehensive care by allowing pet owners to obtain prescribed medications directly from the clinic, streamlining the treatment process for their animals. This integration aims to ensure that pets receive the necessary medications promptly and that owners have direct access to veterinary professionals for any questions regarding dosage or administration.
One of the features highlighted in a customer review is the cleanliness of the facility and the seemingly caring nature of the staff. A clean and well-maintained environment is crucial in a veterinary setting to ensure the health and safety of the animals. Additionally, a caring and compassionate staff can contribute significantly to a positive experience for both pets and their owners, helping to alleviate anxiety and build trust.
Another positive aspect mentioned in the reviews is the continuity of care provided at Carroll Gardens Veterinary Group. One long-term customer appreciates that all the veterinarians are consistently up-to-date on their dog's detailed medical history, regardless of which doctor they see for an appointment. This indicates a well-organized system for record-keeping and effective communication among the veterinary team, ensuring that pets receive informed and consistent care over time. The reviewer also praises the quality of the advice provided by the veterinarians and the trust they have in their recommendations, noting that they have never felt pressured to opt for more expensive treatment options.
Furthermore, the positive review emphasizes the kindness and helpfulness of everyone working at Carroll Gardens Veterinary Group. The staff's positive attitude towards the animals and their ability to put pets at ease during check-ups contribute to a more comfortable and less stressful experience for the animals. This suggests a patient-centered approach where the well-being of the animal is a priority.
However, it is important to consider all feedback to provide an objective overview. One customer shared a significantly negative experience related to the clinic's inability to assist during a family emergency that required them to leave the state abruptly. Their dog, who suffers from epilepsy, requires a controlled substance medication twice daily. Due to state regulations, they were unable to refill the prescription earlier than the day before it was due. When they requested a refill out of state, Carroll Gardens Veterinary Group reportedly claimed it was impossible and that no New York vet could help, offering no solutions. The reviewer stated that their previous vet in Williamsburg had routinely called in such prescriptions when they traveled out of state.
This negative experience raises concerns about the clinic's knowledge of interstate prescription procedures and their willingness or ability to find solutions for clients facing emergency situations. The reviewer expressed disappointment, especially considering the cost of their pet's epilepsy care at the clinic. This feedback highlights the importance of clear communication, problem-solving skills, and a thorough understanding of relevant regulations when providing veterinary care, particularly for pets with chronic conditions requiring ongoing medication.
The contrasting reviews provide a balanced perspective. While some clients have experienced excellent care, continuity, and a supportive environment, others have encountered significant challenges related to administrative processes and the handling of emergency situations. This suggests that while Carroll Gardens Veterinary Group may excel in routine care and building rapport with regular clients, there might be areas for improvement in handling complex or urgent situations, especially those involving interstate regulations for prescription medications.

In conclusion, Carroll Gardens Veterinary Group in Brooklyn, NY, offers a range of veterinary services with an on-site pharmacy. Positive aspects highlighted by customer reviews include a clean facility, caring staff, continuity of care, and a non-pressured approach to treatment recommendations. However, a significant negative experience was reported regarding the clinic's inability to assist with an out-of-state prescription refill during a family emergency. Potential clients should consider both the positive and negative feedback when making decisions about their pet's care. Dec 20, 2024 · Olivia MedvedI’ve been going there for years. My dog has a long and detailed history of minor problems. I appreciate that no matter which doctor I book an appointment with they always come in up to date on her history. All the vets give good advice and I can trust when they recommend something it’s what they think is the best fit. I’ve never felt pressured to take more expensive options. Everyone working there is kind and helpful. They’re always happy to see my dog and manage to put her at ease during checkups.
Feb 08, 2025 · Lainey R.I am beyond thankful for this practice and everyone at CG Vet. Dr. Draper is total excellence. The staff is warm, caring and exceptional. They are top tier in this field. After years of searching for a quality Vet in Brooklyn, we have been taking our kitty there for a handful of years- he’s had dental procedures, and recently a mass removed. We drive from Bayridge…. I can’t thank them enough. Highly Recc. !
