Great place. We also lost our local vet in Hancock recently. And now I’m glad I did. Love this clinic and the people who work there. Dr. Shrader is caring and very knowledgeable. I don’t want fancy and a different Dr. for our 2 dogs every time we go. This is my go to place from now on.

Welcome to Canal Town Veterinary Clinic
For pet owners in Williamsport, Maryland, seeking local veterinary care, Canal Town Veterinary Clinic, located at 15 N Artizan St, Williamsport, MD 21795, USA, offers services as a "Pet Hospital." Accessible via phone at (301) 223-4000 or +1 301-223-4000, this clinic aims to provide a range of veterinary services to the community. As with any service provider, individual experiences can vary, and this introduction will present an objective overview based on available online feedback, encompassing the reported environment, services, key features, and any implied promotional information.
The environment at Canal Town Veterinary Clinic, as inferred from customer reviews, presents a mixed picture. While a "great place" is mentioned by some, implying a generally positive and functional setting, the specifics of the physical space itself are not extensively detailed in the provided information. However, the overarching atmosphere is significantly shaped by staff interactions. For some, the clinic feels welcoming, suggesting a comfortable and professional space for examinations and consultations. The desire for a consistent experience, without "fancy and a different Dr. for our 2 dogs every time," points towards a preference for a stable and predictable environment where pets and owners can build familiarity. This implies a clinic that strives for a personal touch. Conversely, other feedback describes a less positive environment, particularly concerning animal handling, indicating that for some, the methods used were perceived as "unnecessary" and "brutal," leading to an "unfriendly" atmosphere. This suggests that while the physical facility may be adequate, the emotional environment and how animals are handled can drastically alter the client experience, highlighting a need for consistent, gentle care. Therefore, the actual experience of the environment may largely depend on the specific interactions during a visit.
As a "Pet Hospital," Canal Town Veterinary Clinic is expected to offer a fundamental range of veterinary services for common companion animals, primarily dogs and cats. While a detailed list of services is not provided in the customer reviews, a typical veterinary clinic offers services such as:
- Routine Wellness Exams: Regular check-ups to monitor overall health and detect potential issues early.
- Vaccinations: Essential immunizations to protect pets against common and dangerous diseases.
- Preventative Care: Recommendations and products for parasite control (fleas, ticks, heartworms, intestinal parasites).
- Diagnostic Services: This would typically include in-house laboratory testing (blood work, urinalysis) and potentially basic imaging (X-rays) to aid in diagnosing illnesses or injuries.
- Basic Medical Treatments: Addressing common ailments, infections, and minor injuries.
- Surgical Procedures: Likely including routine soft tissue surgeries such as spays and neuters.
- Dental Care: Professional dental cleanings and basic oral health procedures.
The key features of Canal Town Veterinary Clinic, as revealed through client feedback, revolve primarily around the staff and the consistency of care. A significant positive feature is the presence of Dr. Shrader, who is highlighted as "caring and very knowledgeable." For clients seeking a consistent relationship with their veterinarian, the clinic appears to offer this stability, as one reviewer explicitly prefers "not fancy and a different Dr. for our 2 dogs every time we go." This implies a practice model that values client-veterinarian continuity, which can foster trust and a deeper understanding of a pet's long-term health needs. The overall sentiment from positive reviews is that the "people who work there" are appreciated, suggesting a generally positive staff demeanor and willingness to provide care. However, a highly critical feature, specific to handling practices, has also been reported. The review explicitly states that the clinic is "NOT A PLACE FOR CATS," detailing instances of "unnecessary, brutal" scruffing and an "unfriendly" doctor who "dragged my cat across the table like a stuffed animal." This feedback points to significant concerns regarding animal handling techniques and professional demeanor, particularly for feline patients. While some clients find it their "go to place," the stark contrast in experiences suggests that while the clinic may offer valuable services and a consistent veterinarian for some, potential clients, especially those with cats, might need to consider these varying reports on animal handling and client interaction before choosing their services.
Regarding promotional information, specific details about ongoing discounts or special offers from Canal Town Veterinary Clinic are not provided in the given customer reviews. Generally, veterinary clinics falling under the "Pet Hospital" category may offer various promotions to attract and retain clients. Prospective clients are advised to contact the clinic directly at (301) 223-4000 or +1 301-223-4000 to inquire about current pricing, available packages, or any new client specials. Common promotions might include:
- New client discounts on initial examinations.
- Puppy/Kitten wellness packages that bundle initial vaccinations, deworming, and health checks.
- Seasonal promotions for services like dental cleanings or specific preventative medications (e.g., discounts on annual flea/tick/heartworm prevention).
- Referral programs where existing clients receive a benefit for referring new ones.

Apr 28, 2025 · Kevin Trunkle*NOT A PLACE FOR CATS* I have seen countless vets use the ‘scruffing’ method when handling cats but never in such an unnecessary, brutal way. Doctor was very unfriendly and dragged my cat across the table like a stuffed animal. Disgusting behavior.
Apr 04, 2025 · Til VThis office was super amazing and, the receptionist is so sweet 😊 they did so incredible with both of my dogs! And, believe me, my one is a major handful. Lol. My visit was very quick as well. But, i could definitely tell the vet cared. He answered all of my questions and, im a very thorough fur baby owner. I had to know about everything, especially when one shot required a benedryl shot, for extra precaution. Which, i also really liked about him. So yes, this vet's office is a wonderful and, safe place to take your "children" for the utmost care/concern 😂
