First time here with my Daisy May, and the doctor figured out her problem. Loved the friendly staff and how great they were with my baby. Although they are an hour away, I will still continue going here for the correct care. Thank you to everyone at Brushwood.

Welcome to Brushwood Veterinary Clinic
Brushwood Veterinary Clinic, located at 6 Jericho Road in Atkinson, New Hampshire, functions as a "Pet Hospital" serving the local community. The clinic aims to provide comprehensive veterinary care for companion animals, offering a range of services designed to address various pet health needs.
The general environment and atmosphere at Brushwood Veterinary Clinic are described as friendly and welcoming, particularly by those who have had positive experiences. Clients frequently highlight the kindness and excellent demeanor of the staff, including the veterinarians and vet technicians. One satisfied customer noted, "Loved the friendly staff and how great they were with my baby." This suggests an effort to create a comfortable and supportive atmosphere for pets and their owners during visits. The clinic aims to treat clients "like family," fostering a positive and welcoming environment for everyone who walks through their doors. The physical space is designed to be functional for veterinary care, ensuring cleanliness and accessibility for pet owners.
However, it's important to acknowledge that client experiences regarding the overall atmosphere and the emotional impact of visits can vary. While the support staff is often praised for their friendliness, some reviews indicate that certain interactions, particularly concerning diagnoses and treatment plans, can lead to feelings of stress and sadness for pet owners. This highlights that while the intent may be to create a positive environment, the delivery of difficult news or differing medical opinions can significantly shape a client's perception of the clinic's atmosphere.
As a "Pet Hospital," Brushwood Veterinary Clinic offers a range of services typically found in a general veterinary practice. While specific detailed service lists are not extensively publicized, common offerings for such clinics generally include:
- Wellness and Preventive Care: This is a core aspect, likely including routine physical examinations, vaccinations to protect against common diseases, and parasite prevention (for fleas, ticks, and heartworms). These services are crucial for maintaining a pet's general health and preventing future issues.
- Diagnosis and Treatment of Illnesses and Injuries: The clinic is equipped to diagnose and treat various common ailments and injuries that pets may experience. This involves using diagnostic tools to identify problems and then prescribing appropriate medications or treatments.
- Surgical Procedures: As a "Pet Hospital," Brushwood Veterinary Clinic is expected to perform various surgical procedures. Common surgeries in a general practice include spaying and neutering, as well as minor soft tissue surgeries. However, for more complex or specialized surgical needs, referrals to specialized surgical centers might be considered or necessary.
- Dental Care: Routine dental cleanings and examinations are typically offered to maintain oral hygiene and prevent dental diseases, which can impact a pet's overall health.
- In-House Diagnostics: Many veterinary clinics have on-site capabilities for blood tests, urinalysis, and fecal exams to get quick results for immediate medical decisions. They may also have X-ray capabilities for imaging internal structures.
- Nutritional Counseling: Guidance on appropriate diets for pets of all ages and with specific health conditions is often provided to support their well-being.
- Behavioral Counseling: Basic advice on common behavioral issues may be offered, with more complex cases potentially referred to specialists.
It is important for potential clients to inquire directly with the clinic regarding the specific range and depth of services for their pet's particular needs, especially if they have concerns requiring advanced diagnostics or specialized treatments.
Brushwood Veterinary Clinic emphasizes several key features in its operational philosophy:
- Friendly and Caring Staff: Consistent positive feedback points to the very friendly and caring nature of the vet techs and receptionists. This personal touch is often highly valued by pet owners and contributes to a positive initial impression.
- Personalized Care: The clinic prides itself on providing personalized care, aiming to understand and fulfill each pet's individual needs. This approach seeks to build strong relationships with clients and their animals.
- Problem-Solving Focus: For some clients, the clinic has successfully identified and resolved long-standing issues for their pets, indicating a capacity for effective diagnosis and treatment. One client specifically mentioned the doctor "figured out her problem" on their first visit, leading them to continue traveling an hour for care.
However, client experiences also reveal certain areas that may be perceived differently:
- Approach to Specialist Referrals: Some clients have expressed concerns about the clinic's reluctance to recommend specialist referrals for complex conditions, despite presenting with serious symptoms like heart murmurs or vision loss. This approach, while potentially stemming from confidence in their own diagnostic abilities, has led some owners to seek second opinions that ultimately differed significantly from the clinic's initial assessments.
- Communication Style: While the staff are described as friendly, the delivery of potentially serious diagnoses without recommending specialist consultations, or even joking about a pet's condition, has been a point of distress for some clients. Clear, empathetic communication about the implications of diagnoses and all available options, including specialist referrals, is crucial for pet owner peace of mind.
- Diagnostic Accuracy (as perceived by some clients): There have been instances where diagnoses provided by Brushwood Veterinary Clinic were reportedly contradicted by subsequent specialist evaluations. This highlights the importance of open communication regarding diagnostic limitations and the value of specialist consultations for complex cases.
For pet owners, these varied experiences underscore the importance of feeling confident in their veterinary team's recommendations and being comfortable seeking second opinions when faced with serious diagnoses or when an initial treatment plan does not yield expected results.
Brushwood Veterinary Clinic promotes itself as a local, family-owned business dedicated to providing the best possible veterinary care in a welcoming environment.
- Local and Family-Owned: They emphasize being a small, family-owned practice, which can appeal to clients looking for a more personal and community-oriented veterinary experience.
- "Happy Healthy Pets" Motto: This motto reflects their commitment to pet well-being.
- Open Communication: They invite pet owners to call with any questions or to make an appointment, highlighting their willingness to engage and provide information.
- Hours of Operation: While specific current hours should always be verified, general hours for the clinic are often provided as:

Apr 09, 2025 · Chris PI never write reviews but I feel the need to give other pet owners more of an insight. I was waiting for a full and thorough checkup for my dog from other vets/specialists before leaving a review here. I had since transferred over to another vet after having very bad experiences here. Vet techs and receptionist are all super friendly. However, there is never any good news after every visit, leaving me feeling upset every time I took my dog here. She has a heart murmur but he didn’t recommend us seeing a specialist since “they’re going to tell you exactly what I’m telling you now”. Another visit, my dog is apparently totally blind now, and again, was told not to go to a specialist for the same reasoning again. He has said it with extreme confidence. She was clearly looking around at everyone and someone joked “Oh wow, I thought you were fully blind?” Which had made me even more upset to even joke about that. Was also told that she would not reach the age of 6. After switching to another vet and gathering second opinions, they had disagreed with this. Brought her to a heart specialist and her heart has significantly improved with the prescribed medication. Also brought her to an eye specialist where they said her eyes are very healthy and she has really good vision out of it. She just needed some eye medication to clean out the build up in her eyes. I no longer feel stressed and saddened from bringing my dog to the vet. On top of that, she is also so happy going to her new vet. I would not recommend going here at all.
Dec 05, 2024 · Lina NBrushwood is the absolute best vet. We just lost our 13 year old border collie mix named Sammy. She was the best dog, but she hated the vet and groomer alike. We bounced between vet to vet because I felt often that most were cold and never felt warm towards our sweet girl. When she was diagnosed with cancer at 10 years old, Brushwood was amazing. He removed her entire tumor even though she was older and she recovered quickly and happily. She beat all odds and lived another 2, almost 3 happy years. A family friend recommended Brushwoods to us years ago and we never looked back. Sammy was never scared when she was there, they were always so kind and so happy to see her. This was the ONLY vet who she let cut her nails, other than us. The techs and desk staff were some of the kindest people ever. Extremely welcoming and always excited to see our baby. If you are looking for a new vet to try and looking for one who will treat your fur baby right, and do ALL that they can to keep them alive, happy and healthy you have found them. Thank you Brushwood for all you did for our sweet girl, thank you for the kind note we received after she passed, signed by each and every staff member. You are among the few vets who truly care about these animals and their owners. From our entire family thank you and we will never stop recommending you. - Sammy's family.
Nov 07, 2024 · KeltyKadi is by far the most caring and kind vet tech there is. She’s spent so much time, years and effort caring for animals. She has traveled the country and given her time, to support animals in need. When you have a sick pet, she gives them the most unconditional love without question !
