If I could give zero stars, I would. I don’t usually leave reviews, but I feel compelled to share my experience because it truly felt like this place cared more about taking my money than taking care of my dog. I brought my dog in because he had a cut on his ear that became infected. Right away, I was almost charged the full price despite having a wellness plan — I had to remind the front desk about it, and there was little to no apology or concern (first red flag). My dog already struggles with vet visits, and when the doctor came in wearing a mask, it made him even more anxious. Dogs rely heavily on reading facial expressions for trust, and it was clear this made the situation worse. They immediately insisted on muzzling him, which only escalated his stress (second red flag). I had explained over the phone exactly why we were coming in — for the cut and infection on his ear — but when the doctor examined him, they only noted an ear infection and completely overlooked the visible cut and swelling. I had to point out the large, swollen, bloody area myself, to which the doctor responded, “Oh wow” — extremely unprofessional and concerning (third red flag). In my experience, places that work with animals usually show genuine care and passion for their well-being — I didn’t feel that here at all. It felt like their main priority was upselling services I didn’t need rather than focusing on my dog’s health. I will absolutely be finding another vet who truly cares about animals and their owners.

Apr 12, 2025 · ConnorI’ve been going to Banfield’s in Poway for sometime now. I’ve taken my two cats there & have received great & loving care. They explain every detail about your animals care, charges etc. They were extremely compassionate when I had to put one of my cats down.
Dec 11, 2024 · Rae AldridgeThey are THE best. I would trust all of the vets there with any of my pets. I have a cat and 3 dogs, and have seen every vet in the office on some occasion or another. Every Vet has treated us with care and compassion, and the Vet Techs are phenomenal. Even though some are allergic to cats, they still hold and care for my cat like it was their cat, and its very comforting to know that. My animals actually enjoy vet visits, which they never did before Banfield.

Similarly to a previous reviewer, I also agree with the statement that this location lacks in the patient care and professionalism that our beloved four-legged family members have received at other Banfield clinics. For the past several years, the Solana Beach Banfield had been our primary clinic, however, after our primary doctor left the company to work with Vetco, we sought care from the Poway clinic when a large mass had grown on our dog's toe. During our initial, a sample from the mass was taken and sent to the lab for evaluation. Dr. Huang promptly called me a few days later to briefly review the cytology report. The mass was determined to be malignant neoplasia (cancerous tumor) and or skin cancer. Dr. Huang informed me that radiographs were recommended to determine if the cancer had metastasized, that amputation of the toe may be necessary, and that there was a possibility of the cancer returning post-surgery. She assisted us in scheduling a consultation with Dr. Lee whom she recommended for the amputation. To be clear, this review is not regarding Dr. Huang. We met with Dr. Lee, whom, after five minutes of only taking our dog's vitals, proceeded to ask if we wanted to move forward with the amputation. She did not review and expand upon the cytology report with us, she did not discuss other treatment options outside of surgery, and she did not mention the very important fact that the cancer could return post-amputation. We felt rushed and were not presented with the necessary information required to make an informed decision. In fact, it was evident that Dr. Lee had failed to review our dog's file as she went on to repeatedly refer to our female dog as "he" throughout the consultation. We informed Dr. Lee that we would base our decision on the findings from the radiographs, which, she only recommended to collect on the chest, however, we pushed for an image of the affected paw as well – an image which our dog's primary doctor (now at Vetco) would later confirm as very much important for the surgery. We waited in the exam room for an hour before our dog was finally taken back for her radiographs. During the imaging process, I could hear the technician repeatedly yelling at our dog. She, understandably frightened, ended up wetting herself and her hind legs were visibly shaking when she was returned to us. Our dog has never wet herself during a visit to the veterinarian. A submissive pee on the floor a few of times when she was a puppy, yes, but never directly urinating on herself to the extent that a bath was necessary. I have never been so upset over the mistreatment of my beloved family member. Feeling incredibly uneasy in trusting Banfield Poway with our dog's care, we happily paid the out-of-network costs to consult with her primary doctor who was now at Vetco. She reviewed our dog's medical reports in depth with us, shared multiple treatment options, and helped us weigh the pros and cons of said options in an unbiased manner — all while demonstrating professionalism and compassion. Furthermore, she strongly advised against going with Banfield for the amputation if we were to choose that route. Banfield, she explained, performs maybe 1 to 2 amputations every 6 months, whereas the specialists at a specialty hospital performs them regularly. Ultimately, we chose to move forward with the amputation at Veterinary Specialty Hospital in North County, – a hospital which we have trusted with the specialty care of our dogs in the past – and could not be happier with the level of care and compassion which they continue to provide to not only our fur babies but to us (the parents) as well. We have since turned off the auto-renewals for our dogs' Banfield plans and will continue their care with Vetco's Premier Plan. We initially requested a cancellation but were told we would owe a fee equivalent to the total cost of the remaining 6 months in our plan. After more than 12 years of loyalty to Banfield, this is how we are treated.

Especially as I am not familiar with English, I was lucky to meet a doctor who could speak both Korean and English. Also, the staff at the reception were very friendly. I don't remember his name, but it started with M. It was my second visit, but I think it would be a good day if I met the person I met in the morning (9:30AM) again next time. It is beautiful to be kind, calm, and considerate of others. I would like to praise the person whose name begins with M who worked at the reception in the morning.
