DO NOT take your pets to this location! Your pets life is at risk!!!! I have been taking my dogs to Banfield for several years, I have never been fully satisfied with Banfield being their primary vet. I mainly keep the plans for vaccinations, teeth cleaning and checkups, sick visit are often at a different vet. Two years ago my mom was mistakenly given the wrong medication for her dog. My mom had to take her dog to an emergency vet and ended up having to leave her dog at an emergency cardiologist for several days because she was in critical condition. The cardiologist told my mom that her dog’s heart condition was a direct result of the medication that Banfield mistakenly gave her. This medication permanently damaged her dogs heart. Banfield paid the $6000 cardiologist bill because they knew they were 100% at fault. I don’t know why I continued to take my dogs to Banfield after this. Yesterday my sister took her healthy dog to Banfield for vaccines that she has received several times before, her dog died immediately after being administered the vaccines. In my opinion Banfield did something wrong. I don’t need to see anymore from this TERRIBLE Banfield location. I have stopped the auto renew on both my plans and will never take my dogs here again. In my opinion the front office staff is rude, the techs are unconcerned with the well being of your pet, they are just trying to push everyone through as fast as possible. The doctors are too busy and over booked to give quality care. Follow up questions go unanswered and request for the doctors to call back are not returned. However, the greatest concern is the safety of your pet at this location. Your pets life could be at risk. Be careful taking your pet to this location!!

Welcome to Banfield Pet Hospital
For pet owners in Frederick, Maryland, Banfield Pet Hospital, located at 2450 Osprey Way S, presents a deeply concerning and contradictory picture based on recent online customer reviews. While one reviewer offers a more balanced perspective, highlighting some positive aspects, multiple other reviews issue stark warnings against using this specific "Pet Hospital," citing severe incidents of alleged medical negligence resulting in significant harm and even death of pets. These alarming accounts raise serious questions about the quality of care and safety protocols at this location, demanding careful consideration from local users seeking veterinary services.
One particularly vehement review begins with a direct and unequivocal warning: "DO NOT take your pets to this location! Your pets life is at risk!!!!" This immediately sets a highly negative tone and suggests critical safety concerns. The reviewer goes on to share a personal history with Banfield, stating, "I have been taking my dogs to Banfield for several years, I have never been fully satisfied with Banfield being their primary vet. I mainly keep the plans for vaccinations, teeth cleaning and checkups, sick visit are often at a different vet." This indicates a pre-existing lack of confidence in Banfield's ability to handle more complex medical issues. The reviewer then details two shocking incidents that led them to completely sever ties with this location.
The first incident recounted involves the reviewer's mother's dog two years prior: "Two years ago my mom was mistakenly given the wrong medication for her dog. Banfield paid the $6000 cardiologist bill because they knew they were 100% at fault." This admission of fault and significant financial compensation by Banfield strongly supports the claim of a severe medical error with lasting consequences for the pet's health.
Despite this serious incident involving a family member's pet, the reviewer inexplicably continued to use this Banfield location for their own dogs' basic care. However, a second tragic event served as the final catalyst for them to leave: "Yesterday my sister took her healthy dog to Banfield for vaccines that she has received several times before, her dog died immediately after being administered the vaccines. In my opinion Banfield did something wrong." The sudden and unexplained death of a seemingly healthy dog immediately following routine vaccinations is deeply concerning and understandably led the reviewer to conclude that negligence was involved.
Following these two devastating experiences, the reviewer states, "I don’t need to see anymore from this TERRIBLE Banfield location. I have stopped the auto renew on both my plans and will never take my dogs here again." They then provide further scathing feedback on the general operation of the clinic, stating, "In my opinion the front office staff is rude, the techs are unconcerned with the well being of your pet, they are just trying to push everyone through as fast as possible. The doctors are too busy and over booked to give quality care. Follow up questions go unanswered and request for the doctors to call back are not returned. However, the greatest concern is the safety of your pet at this location. Your pets life could be at risk." The reviewer concludes with a direct warning to others: "Be careful taking your pet to this location!!"
In contrast to these highly critical reviews, another customer offers a more balanced, albeit still somewhat limited, positive perspective: "Employees are nice, treatment is professional, work area is clean, approachable vets, good advice. If the payment plan from any Banfield clinic had affordable dentistry for pets, they'd be unstoppable." This review acknowledges some positive aspects such as friendly staff, professional treatment, a clean environment, and approachable veterinarians who offer good advice. However, it also points out a significant unmet need regarding affordable dental care within Banfield's payment plans, suggesting that even this more positive reviewer sees room for improvement. This stark contrast between the overwhelmingly negative accounts and this single moderately positive one highlights the potential for inconsistent experiences at this location.
Based on the severely negative customer reviews, the environment at this Banfield Pet Hospital in Frederick, MD, is portrayed as potentially chaotic and unsafe. The allegations of rude front office staff, unconcerned technicians rushing through appointments, and overbooked doctors unable to provide quality care paint a picture of a clinic where efficiency may be prioritized over patient well-being. The concerns raised about unanswered follow-up questions and unreturned calls suggest a lack of adequate communication and patient support. Most alarmingly, the direct accusations of medical errors leading to severe harm and death indicate a potentially dangerous environment for pets seeking care at this location. While one reviewer mentions a clean work area, this single positive aspect is overshadowed by the serious safety and quality of care concerns raised by others.
As a Banfield Pet Hospital, this location would typically offer a range of standard veterinary services, including preventative care (vaccinations, parasite control, wellness exams), dental care (teeth cleaning, extractions), diagnostic services (laboratory testing, imaging), and medical and surgical treatments for illnesses and injuries. The fact that the negative reviewer initially used Banfield for vaccinations, teeth cleaning, and checkups suggests these services were available. However, the disastrous experiences with medication errors and vaccine administration raise significant doubts about the competence and safety with which these services are provided at this specific location. The positive reviewer's comment about the need for affordable dentistry within Banfield's payment plans indicates that dental services are offered but may not be financially accessible to all pet owners under their current plans.
The features of this Banfield Pet Hospital, based on the reviews, present a mixed bag. On the potentially positive side, one reviewer mentions nice employees, professional treatment, a clean work area, approachable vets, and good advice. However, these are starkly contradicted by the more numerous and alarming negative accounts detailing rude staff, unconcerned technicians, overbooked and rushed doctors, lack of follow-up, and, most critically, medical errors leading to severe harm and death. The fact that Banfield reportedly paid a $6000 cardiologist bill due to their error suggests a system in place for acknowledging and rectifying mistakes, but this does little to mitigate the devastating impact on the affected pets and owners. The lack of affordable dentistry within their payment plans is also noted as a significant drawback.
The provided reviews do not mention any current promotional offers specific to this Banfield Pet Hospital location in Frederick, MD. Banfield as a national chain often promotes their Optimum Wellness Plans, which are membership-based plans that bundle preventative care services for a monthly fee. However, given the serious safety and quality of care concerns raised in the reviews for this particular location, any potential promotional offers should be viewed with extreme caution. Local pet owners would be well-advised to prioritize the safety and well-being of their pets over any potential cost savings offered by this clinic.
In conclusion, Banfield Pet Hospital in Frederick, Maryland, located at 2450 Osprey Way S, receives overwhelmingly negative feedback citing severe medical errors, including the permanent injury and death of pets, allegedly due to negligence. Reviewers describe rude staff, unconcerned technicians, overbooked doctors providing rushed and inadequate care, and a lack of follow-up. While one reviewer notes some positive aspects like friendly employees and a clean environment, these are overshadowed by the alarming safety concerns raised by others. Local pet owners should exercise extreme caution and carefully consider these serious allegations before entrusting the health and lives of their pets to this specific Banfield location.

Jun 18, 2024 · Ms. AquariusOn the wellness plan ($1,200 for a year started 4/24) appt. made 3 days advance, asked to have dogs ears checked and urine checked for infection, as well as nails cut (9/24). Dropped off 8am all done at 10:48am. Went to pick up, asked about ears? "Oh didn't know you wanted?" how about urine? "OH didn't know you wanted" but nails are cut $40 please? "WAIT, no you need to check ears and urine like I asked when appt. was made? let me know when done. Called at 2:43pm not done!? Picked dog up at 3:12pm STILL NOT DONE! 8 hours in create she hadn't urinated or moved bowels!? 2 staff tried to suppress anal glands at 3;33pm in front of me, hurt her, she almost bit them (they didn't get the left side) staff gave me a cup to follow my dog around to collect urine sample, or pay $200 to knock her out to collect!? Me and my dog couldn't wait to get out of there! Very frustrating and traumatizing for both of us!
Oct 03, 2024 · Trudy KingWe signed up for a wellness plan for 2 pets. I can’t say it was worth the money. For our cat, the poor guy didn’t make it to a year. He passed away just shy of 1. We were signed up with a 1-year contract. Even though our cat died, we had to pay the remaining 3-months of the plan. That really doesn’t make sense. For that reason, I won’t sign up for a welness package again. The staff are nice and helpful. I’ll say that! I got a nice card in the mail when our cat passed away. Good people.
