I just want to start by saying the front staff here is super nice but I am disappointed with our entire visit from start to finish today. Made an appointment for 1pm and was seated in the room with my dog around 12:55pm. At 1:50pm, I am still waiting in the room and had to check and see what is going on. Staff admitted they went to lunch and forgot I was in there. They end up having to keep my dog for testing which is fine, but why have me wait when I could have just done a drop off to begin with. I leave and get a call an hour later from Dr. Atwood with a treatment plan of unnecessary things totaling over $500. I have a monthly membership here which clearly covers nothing. I’ve been coming here for a while but always have wild treatment plans with huge amounts that make literally no sense. Will be our last visit here and cancelling my membership.

Welcome to Banfield Pet Hospital
Welcome to the detailed introduction of Banfield Pet Hospital, located at 1581 Niagara Fls Blvd Ste 100, Amherst, NY 14228, USA. As part of a well-known national chain of veterinary clinics operating under the platform category of Pet Hospital, this Amherst location aims to provide a range of veterinary services and potentially related goods for pet owners in the local community and surrounding areas. You can reach them at (716) 834-1186 or their mobile number +1 716-834-1186 for appointments and inquiries.
Banfield Pet Hospitals typically maintain a standardized environment across their locations. You can generally expect a clean and professional setting with a reception and waiting area, multiple examination rooms equipped for consultations and minor procedures, and potentially a treatment area for administering medications and performing various medical interventions. Depending on the size and scope of the facility, they may also have surgical suites, radiology equipment, and in-house laboratories for diagnostic testing. As a larger chain, Banfield often emphasizes a consistent brand image and operational standards across its hospitals.
As a Pet Hospital, Banfield offers a comprehensive suite of veterinary services. These generally include preventative care, such as routine wellness examinations, vaccinations tailored to the pet's needs, and parasite control for fleas, ticks, heartworms, and intestinal parasites. They also provide dental care services, which can range from routine cleanings to more complex dental procedures. Nutritional counseling and weight management programs are often available to help pet owners maintain their animals' optimal health. Furthermore, Banfield offers diagnostic services, including laboratory testing, digital radiography, and ultrasound, to aid in the diagnosis of various medical conditions.
A significant feature of Banfield Pet Hospitals is their emphasis on wellness plans or membership programs. These plans typically offer a package of preventative care services, such as routine exams, vaccinations, and certain diagnostic tests, for a monthly or annual fee. The intention of these plans is to make routine care more affordable and encourage regular veterinary visits, which can lead to early detection and management of health issues. However, as indicated in one of the customer reviews, the extent of coverage under these plans and the potential for additional costs for treatments outside the plan should be carefully considered by pet owners.
The available customer reviews for the Amherst Banfield Pet Hospital present concerning experiences. One reviewer expresses disappointment with their visit from start to finish. Despite having a scheduled appointment, they experienced a significant delay and felt forgotten in the examination room while staff went to lunch. Subsequently, they received a treatment plan totaling over $500, which they perceived as unnecessary, despite having a monthly membership that seemingly did not cover these costs. This reviewer, a long-term client, states their intention to cancel their membership and not return, citing consistently high and nonsensical treatment plans.
Another review details extreme difficulty in contacting the hospital. The reviewer and their girlfriend report calling "several times a day for OVER A MONTH" without being able to reach anyone. They are paying monthly for a kitten plan for two young kittens but have been unable to schedule follow-up appointments since their initial visit months prior. This paints a picture of severe communication issues and raises serious concerns about the accessibility of services for clients enrolled in their wellness plans. The reviewer goes as far as to label the situation as "genuine thievery," indicating a profound level of dissatisfaction and a feeling of being charged for services they cannot access.
Based on these two recent customer experiences, a significant potential feature of this specific Banfield location is severely lacking: reliable customer service and communication. The inability to contact the hospital over an extended period and the significant wait times during scheduled appointments are major issues. Additionally, the perception of unnecessary and costly treatment plans, even for members with wellness plans, raises concerns about transparency and the value of the membership.
Promotional information is not explicitly provided in the reviews. However, Banfield, as a national chain, often promotes its wellness plans as a way to budget for routine pet care and receive discounts on other services. These plans typically vary in coverage and cost depending on the pet's age and species. Potential promotions might also include introductory offers for new members or discounts on specific services during certain times of the year. However, the negative experiences shared in the reviews, particularly regarding the value and transparency of these plans and the difficulty in accessing services, should give local users pause and prompt them to inquire very carefully about the specifics and limitations of any such promotions or memberships.
In conclusion, while Banfield Pet Hospital in Amherst, New York, is part of a national chain that typically offers a range of veterinary services and wellness plans, the recent customer reviews highlight significant concerns regarding customer service, communication, and the perceived value and transparency of treatment plans and membership programs. Local users considering this Pet Hospital should be aware of these reported issues. The front staff is acknowledged as nice, but the overall experience described by these reviewers is negative, citing long wait times, difficulty in contacting the hospital, and concerns about unnecessary costs and the benefits of their wellness plans.
For pet owners in Amherst, New York, and surrounding areas, Banfield Pet Hospital presents itself as a conveniently located option for veterinary care. However, the experiences shared by recent customers regarding appointment delays, communication problems, and concerns about treatment costs and the value of wellness plans should be carefully considered. Potential clients are strongly advised to inquire in detail about appointment scheduling procedures, communication protocols, and the specifics of any wellness plans before committing to this Pet Hospital. It may be beneficial to seek clarification on what exactly is covered under their membership options and to discuss treatment plans and associated costs thoroughly before agreeing to any procedures.
In summary, the provided information paints a concerning picture of the customer experience at the Amherst Banfield Pet Hospital. While the chain itself has a established model of care and wellness plans, the local implementation at this specific location appears to be facing significant challenges in terms of customer service, communication, and potentially the transparency and value of their treatment recommendations and membership programs. Local pet owners should approach with caution and ensure they have clear and satisfactory answers to their questions and concerns before entrusting their pet's care to this facility.

Feb 21, 2025 · Mike HasenauerMy girlfriend and I have been calling this place several times a day for OVER A MONTH and cannot get in contact with anyone here. We have two young kittens that we are currently paying $55 a month for each for their kitten plan (or something else with a similar name). We had an initial appointment months ago and have not been able to get into contact with this place ever since. Genuine thievery. 0/5.
