I had a hard time finding reviews for euthanasia so I’m leaving mine in hopes it will help the next person that finds themselves on this very difficult path. My boy was 19. He lived a very good and long life. I came to Banfield to consult whether euthanasia was the most humane choice given his situation. Everyone from the front staff to the vet techs to the Dr herself were exceptionally kind and caring. They got me in immediately and never made me feel rushed at any point. The Dr listened to my ramblings and didn’t push any agenda or decision on me. She simply discussed what the options of waiting vs euthanasia would look like, based on her medical expertise. I took my time but eventually decided putting him down was the most loving thing I could do for him. 😔 I wanted to give him a gentle and loving send-off after our 19 years together, and that’s exactly what the staff at Banfield helped me do. I never felt rushed and after it was “done,” they let me stay with him as long as I needed. I chose not to have his ashes returned after learning that Banfield partners with a crematory that takes all the animals’ ashes and scatters them over the ocean. I did buy the paw print and when I picked it up, it came in a very cute little box and gift bag. I loved how much detail and care they put into everything, no matter how “trivial” it may seem to others. And with all that, they were very reasonable on pricing. Thank you Banfield staff for your kindness during such a difficult time and for taking such good care of my old man. ❤️

For instance, a customer praised the staff, from front desk to vet techs and the doctor, for being "exceptionally kind and caring" during an euthanasia consultation. This suggests that the environment is designed to be supportive and understanding, especially when dealing with sensitive pet health matters.
A key aspect of their environment is the efficiency with which they handle appointments, even for urgent matters. The review mentioned being "gotten in immediately" and never feeling "rushed at any point," which is crucial for pet owners seeking timely and unhurried care. This patient-focused approach, combined with a professional yet empathetic demeanor from the veterinary team, contributes to a positive experience despite the circumstances.
As a comprehensive "Pet Hospital," Banfield in Chatsworth offers a wide range of services and goods for sale, designed to cover various aspects of pet health from routine wellness to more complex medical needs. Their primary services and offerings, including their integrated "pharmacy" function, include:
- Preventive Care: This is a cornerstone of Banfield's philosophy, heavily promoted through their Optimum Wellness Plans (OWPs). These plans bundle essential services like unlimited office visits, comprehensive physical exams (typically two per year), routine vaccinations (including rabies, distemper/parvo, feline leukemia, etc.), and diagnostic testing (like fecal exams and blood work) for an affordable monthly or annual fee.
- Diagnostic Services: The hospital is equipped with various diagnostic tools including digital radiography (X-rays) for examining internal body systems and dental digital X-rays to assess oral health. They also have in-house laboratory diagnostics for quick results, aiding in the timely diagnosis and treatment of illnesses.
- Surgical Services: Banfield offers standard surgical procedures, including spaying and neutering. They also perform general dentistry, which can involve professional cleanings and extractions. These procedures are performed with a focus on patient safety, including pre-anesthetic blood work and monitoring during and after the procedure.
- Dental Care: Recognizing the importance of oral health, Banfield provides comprehensive dental services, from professional cleanings to address and prevent periodontal disease to dental extractions when necessary.
- Pharmacy Services: The "pharmacy" aspect, as mentioned in the prompt's category, is integrated directly into their pet hospital operations. They maintain an in-house pharmacy, allowing for immediate access to necessary medications and products prescribed by their veterinarians. This includes prescription medications for various conditions, flea and tick preventatives, heartworm medications, and therapeutic diets. They also offer an online pharmacy for convenient refills and access to a wider range of prescription and over-the-counter pet products, including parasite control, dental supplies, joint health supplements, and skin and coat care products. This integrated pharmacy streamlines the treatment process for pet owners, ensuring continuity of care and easy access to required pharmaceuticals.
- End-of-Life Care: A particularly sensitive service offered is compassionate end-of-life care, including euthanasia. As highlighted in a customer review, the staff handles these delicate situations with immense kindness, patience, and respect, allowing families to make informed decisions and providing ample time for farewells. They also offer aftercare options like paw prints and can facilitate cremation services.
- Microchipping: For pet identification and safety, microchipping services are available.
- Behavioral Evaluations: They offer behavior evaluations to help pet owners understand if their pet's behavior is medically related and can provide advice and resources.
- Nutrition Advice: The clinic provides guidance on proper nutrition and diet for pets, tailored to their life stage, lifestyle, and health conditions.
Banfield Pet Hospital distinguishes itself through several key features:
- Optimum Wellness Plans (OWPs): These plans are a major selling point, offering structured, affordable preventative care packages. They provide a predictable way for pet owners to budget for routine veterinary expenses and encourage consistent health monitoring, which can lead to early detection of issues. OWPs offer significant savings (often over 30% compared to individual service prices) and include perks like unlimited office visits and 24/7 access to Vet Chat™ for pet health advice.
- Standardized Quality of Care: As part of a large national network (with over 1,000 locations nationwide), Banfield aims to maintain a consistent standard of care across its hospitals. This means pet owners can expect similar protocols and quality of service, whether they visit the Chatsworth location or another Banfield hospital. This consistency is particularly beneficial for clients who may move or travel with their pets.
- Emphasis on Communication and Support: Reviews consistently praise the staff's ability to communicate effectively, listen to concerns without pushing agendas, and provide detailed explanations of medical options. This supportive approach is particularly valued during emotionally taxing situations like euthanasia. The staff's kindness is a recurring theme, making difficult times more bearable.
- Integrated Services: The presence of an in-house pharmacy, diagnostic lab, and surgical suites means that most of a pet's medical needs can be addressed efficiently within the same facility, offering convenience and continuity of care. This "one-stop-shop" model simplifies pet healthcare for owners.
- Aftercare Sensitivity: Even in the context of end-of-life services, Banfield demonstrates attention to detail and care, such as providing paw prints in a thoughtfully presented box, which helps grieving pet owners find closure and a tangible memory of their pet. The option for ocean scattering of ashes, while a personal choice, is also a service they facilitate transparently.
Banfield Pet Hospital actively promotes its services, particularly the Optimum Wellness Plans, which are central to their business model and a key way they make comprehensive pet care accessible and manageable. They aim to attract new clients through these structured payment plans. While specific, limited-time promotional offers might vary, new clients can often benefit from incentives like a complimentary first office visit coupon, providing an excellent opportunity to experience their services and meet the team.
The Chatsworth location maintains comprehensive operating hours, typically from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM Monday through Saturday, and 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Sundays. These extensive hours cater to a variety of schedules, making it easier for pet owners to bring their animals in for routine care, unexpected issues, or even urgent appointments, as highlighted by the customer who was "squeezed in" for a Cytopoint injection. Online booking is also typically available through their website, further enhancing accessibility and convenience for scheduling appointments.
While the review mentioned a crematory partner that takes all animals' ashes and scatters them over the ocean for those who choose not to have them returned, Banfield does offer the option of returning ashes to pet owners for individual cremation. This transparency in aftercare options allows pet owners to make choices that best suit their preferences for honoring their pet's memory. The overall pricing for services, especially through their wellness plans, is generally described as "very reasonable" by customers, especially when considering the level of care and support provided.
In summary, Banfield Pet Hospital in Chatsworth, CA, functions as a modern, comprehensive pet hospital with a strong emphasis on preventive care. Through its structured wellness plans, extensive range of medical services including an integrated pharmacy, and consistently compassionate staff, it positions itself as a reliable and accessible partner for pet owners seeking to ensure the long-term health and well-being of their animal companions in the Chatsworth community.

Apr 26, 2025 · Lina MillerCertain times of the year my 6lb Chihuahua gets really itchy. He seems so miserable when this happens. We usually go to the Northridge location for his Optimal Wellness plan exams but since they were all booked we decided to go to Chatsworth since they had appointments available. Cytopoint does wonders for my lil Señor! We are thankful that Chatsworth was able to squeeze us in for this service.
Apr 23, 2025 · Kira “Luckybear57” PalmerI have all 4 of my fur babies on a wellness plan and we choose this location each time, although it’s a bit of a drive. We have been coming here for years and the staff is nothing short of excellent. Specifically Eddie working the front desk. He’s always very patient and helpful through our questions. He always tries to pull up all our dogs profiles be for calling so we can get them all in together at the same time.
Mar 17, 2025 · Sara MI have all my pets going to this location and I know they’re always in good hands. Whether it’s a routine check up, teeth cleaning, or an emergency one off visit, they always have my dogs best interests. They call with updates whenever my dogs are in their care and ask me about certain items before they proceed to do extra measures with my dogs. Big thanks to Eddie, Dr Alexandra, and Samantha.
Mar 17, 2025 · Samantha MI am beyond livid with the entire lack of customer service I received in regards to getting me pet's medications refilled in time. I spent the entirety of last week speaking to people, leaving messages, and sending emails requesting that you get back to the pharmacy in regards to the refills. No one, in one week, got back to them. I spoke with someone (a man) at 9:41am on Friday and they said they were sending both prescriptions into the pharmacy. The pharmacy received nothing and AGAIN called you guys to confirm. Today I was finally able to get a med refill to the pharmacy, and now, because it's so last minute, they won't have it ready until Monday PM. She has no medicine left and will miss 4 doses because of this. This is going to set her back in a big way. We just got her regular and on a good schedule and that progress is going to be ruined, thanks to no one in that office caring. This was absolutely absurd. No one should be made to wait any extended amount of time when it comes to their pet's medications. What an awful experience this has been.
