If I could leave zero stars I would. I’ve brought my kitten in 3 times and kept telling them he was having breathing problems. Three times they assured me that he was fine and the fourth time I brought him in telling them I’m canceling the wellness plan and that he’s still has breathing problems they finally inform me he had conjunctivitis. After I treated him with the medicine they provided my sweet baby boy can breathe. It breaks my heart to know that he was neglected by this vet office. I’m so lucky that it was nothing life threatening. Please do not take your pets here. They do not care about them. They only want your money. If you do not have the wellness plan it’s a little over 80$ a visit just the visit plus whatever else the vet decides your pet needs. Also the worst thing is for a simple visit like shots you have to drop off your pet anywhere from 3-4 hours min. Banfield pet hospitals everywhere only want your money and forget talking to a vet. If you’re lucky you might get to talk to the nurse.

Banfield Pet Hospital Introduce

For pet owners in West Covina, California, and the surrounding areas, Banfield Pet Hospital, located at 2851 E Eastland Center Dr Fsu9, West Covina, CA 91791, USA, offers a widely recognized option for veterinary care. As part of a large national network operating within the "Pet Hospital" category, Banfield aims to provide accessible and comprehensive care, often structured around their distinctive wellness plans. You can reach this specific location by phone at (626) 732-2852 or via mobile at +1 626-732-2852.

Environment and Operating Model

Banfield Pet Hospitals are typically situated within or adjacent to PetSmart retail stores, which provides a familiar and convenient environment for pet owners. The West Covina location, being in a large retail center, likely offers ample parking and easy access. While the specific aesthetics of this individual Banfield are not detailed, Banfield clinics generally aim for a professional and functional environment. This typically includes a reception area, multiple examination rooms, a treatment area, and surgical and diagnostic capabilities. Given their high volume, the environment is designed for efficiency. However, the operational model, as highlighted by one review, can involve "drop off your pet anywhere from 3-4 hours min" for "a simple visit like shots." This "drop-off" model, while potentially efficient for the clinic, may be less ideal for owners who prefer to stay with their pets during appointments. Despite this, the presence within a shopping complex allows for other errands to be run while a pet is being cared for.

Comprehensive Services

Banfield Pet Hospital offers a broad range of veterinary services, often emphasizing preventive care through their Optimum Wellness Plans® (OWP). These plans are a key feature and typically include:

  • Preventive Care: This forms the core of their service, encompassing routine comprehensive physical exams, vaccinations for common diseases (e.g., rabies, distemper, parvovirus, FVRCP), and regular parasite screenings and deworming.
  • Dental Care: Many plans include annual dental cleanings and oral examinations, crucial for maintaining overall pet health.
  • Diagnostic Services: They offer in-house laboratory services for blood work, urinalysis, and fecal exams, as well as diagnostic imaging like X-rays to aid in diagnosing various conditions.
  • Surgical Procedures: Common surgeries, such as spaying and neutering, are typically available, along with other general surgeries.
  • Office Visits and Consultations: The OWPs often include unlimited office visits, encouraging regular check-ups and early intervention for health concerns.
  • Early Detection & Disease Management: Beyond routine care, they also address the diagnosis and management of chronic conditions, nutritional counseling, and behavioral advice.
  • Online Access: Banfield provides an online portal for clients to access their pet's medical records and manage appointments.

It's important to note that while the OWPs cover a significant portion of routine care, more complex treatments, emergency services, or specialty referrals may incur additional costs.

Distinguishing Features and Customer Experience

The most prominent feature of Banfield Pet Hospital is its Optimum Wellness Plan®. This membership-based model aims to make preventative care more affordable and encourage regular veterinary visits. It provides a structured approach to pet health, often including unlimited office visits and core services for a monthly fee. Another feature, particularly of the overall Banfield network, is its widespread presence, allowing pet owners to access care at different locations if they travel.

Customer experiences at this specific West Covina location, however, present a mixed picture. On the positive side, one reviewer highlights consistent friendliness, stating, "When I call I am always greeted with friendliness. Every person that I have spoken top is very informative and patient." This suggests a welcoming and helpful front-line staff. Furthermore, positive experiences include pets showing happiness upon arrival, with one reviewer noting their "10 week old lab is always wagging her tail when she gets there," which speaks to a potentially positive interaction between staff and animals.

Conversely, a significantly negative review raises serious concerns about the quality of care and communication. This customer reported repeated instances where their kitten's "breathing problems" were dismissed over three visits, only to be finally diagnosed with conjunctivitis after canceling their wellness plan. The reviewer states, "It breaks my heart to know that he was neglected by this vet office. I’m so lucky that it was nothing life threatening. Please do not take your pets here. They do not care about them. They only want your money." This review also critically assesses the pricing model, noting that without a wellness plan, a visit is "a little over 80$ a visit just the visit plus whatever else the vet decides your pet needs." The lack of direct communication with a vet, often being relegated to a nurse, and the mandatory 3-4 hour drop-off for simple visits are also points of strong criticism. This highlights a perceived focus on financial gain over thorough patient care and accessible communication.

Promotional Information and Considerations for Pet Owners

Banfield Pet Hospital's primary promotional strategy revolves around its Optimum Wellness Plans®, marketing them as a cost-effective way to manage a pet's health and budget. They emphasize the benefits of predictable monthly payments, unlimited office visits, and included preventative services. They often highlight their network of hospitals across the country as a convenience for pet owners. For individuals considering Banfield in West Covina, it's crucial to weigh the convenience and structured cost-savings of the wellness plans against the reported customer experiences. While some appreciate the staff's friendliness and the convenience, the concerns about misdiagnosis, perceived neglect, and limited direct communication with veterinarians are significant. Prospective clients should thoroughly research the specifics of the wellness plans, including what is covered and what incurs additional charges. It would also be wise to inquire about their communication protocols and the typical duration of visits, especially for routine services, to manage expectations. For pet owners prioritizing an ongoing, structured preventative care plan, Banfield may be an option, but careful consideration of both positive and negative feedback is essential to make an informed decision for their pet's health.

When I call I am always greeted with friendliness. Every person that I have spoken top is very informative and patient. In person experience has been even better. My 10 week old lab is always wagging her tail when she gets there.

Meh. Like all subscription plans. Just a glorified pharmaceutical drug pusher. They do absolutely nothing to treat and make your pets better. They do however price gouge you to death!!!! Biggest scam ever!! Well, one of the biggest. They care only about profits and pushing dangerous drugs on your fur babies.

I have Banfield wellness plans for all of my animals and even though it’s expensive, I wouldn’t trade my wellness plan for anything else out there in terms of vet wellness plans. The plans ensure that my animals are taken care of, and their focus on preventative care is something that I value a lot. I love the user-friendly website/app and great front desk customer service. I really like this Banfield pet hospital and take all of my animals to this place. If you are looking for reliable service, look no further than here. I love all my vets who have seen my animals and they care for my animals as if they were their own. Quick service. Very reliable. Great phone customer service. 98% satisfied.
