The environment at Back Cove Animal Hospital is meticulously designed with the comfort and safety of pets and their owners in mind. Clients consistently describe the facility as clean, comfortable, and welcoming. A key feature is their commitment to being a "fear-free certified" practice. This means that every aspect of the hospital, from its design to staff training, is geared towards minimizing stress, anxiety, and fear in animals during veterinary visits. This includes:
Separate waiting areas and exam rooms for cats and dogs to reduce inter-species stress.
Utilization of special treats, dog beds, and cat perches to make pets feel more at ease.
Installation of high-grip floors to prevent slipping and improve comfort for nervous or older pets.
Playing calming music throughout the facility.

Client reviews frequently highlight the staff's dedication to this fear-free approach. One owner of a "nervous pup" was delighted that the doctor and technician "took their time with her and got down to her level," using "a lot of treats" which resulted in their dog "happily sleeping on the floor at the end of the appointment." Feb 19, 2025 · Jenny wadhwaWe’ve been coming to Back Cove for a few years now. Hands down the best veterinary care we have had for our two older pups. Dr. Strickland and her team are AMAZING - skilled, patient, and explains the plan thoroughly. I say the same for all the docs and techs we’ve interacted with at this practice. We very much appreciate having such a great vet. Also, I wish to shout out the front desk team, especially Savannah who is always so polite and diligent. I see how hard they work with the constantly ringing phones and checking patients in. Thank you to all of you!
May 01, 2025 · Roy TaorminaMy dog, cat and I had a wonderful experience at this clinic. From checking in, receiving care, checking out--> the entire experience was excellent. The staff was polite, considerate and professional. The Vet was gentle with his exams, during which he verbally shared thoughts/concerns with me as he worked. VERY IMPRESSED! I’ve traveled extensively with my pets as a former travel RN, and have utilized Veterinary services throughout the country. This clinic rates an A++ with me.
Apr 29, 2025 · SherryGreat service! I have a male cat who broke one of his K9 teeth they got me in as soon as possible and they were very sweet! I love this place because they do follow up calls the next day to see if your pet is doing better or worse! I have full stars! You can tell they are animal lovers them selves!
May 15, 2025 · Emma vanameeJust had our first trip to Back Cove for a new patient visit and the entire experience was great— from the waiting room to seamless checkout. Dr Norman and vet tech Leanne were great at covering all the ground with our new rescue dog and answered our many Qs. The practice came recommended by 2 friends we trust and I can see why. So glad we chose them!
