Incredibly knowledgeable and kind. I have had to before at other places tell vets to not prescribe my birds certain medications they tried to as they were toxic. What an amazing breath of fresh air to see an avian specific place who actually loves and cares about birds. I would recommend this place to anyone.

My B&G macaw has had beak issues and it is so hard to find an avian vet in the Portland area that is not the exotic vet in NE Portland. I was relieved when I discovered AMC, and made an appt. AMC was friendly and helpful from start to finish. I learned so much, and also that I had been doing the opposite of what I should have been doing. It turned out that my bird had injured his beak, and it was not a diet issue. Dr. Schwartz was gentle and took the time to explain everything. I could tell he really loves birds, and my boy was in good hands. I was very pleased and relieved to finally have an avian vet to take my beloved boy to for nail/beak trims and wellness checks. They also do boarding. If you are looking for an avian vet, look no further. This is the place you want to take your FID

We use our normal vet for general health checks on our 2 african greys just because of location..but for beak or nail trims..or ANY service above "basic" THIS is the place you want to go. The friendly staff and doctors are as easy and gentle with our birds as they are with us!

I'm leaving this review more than a year after my experience with this veterinarian. I waited a year, because I wanted to distance myself from the experience, and to actually resolve the problem with my bird. First, I drove from Las Vegas, NV. to see this veterinarian. I was referred to her by a trusted friend. I consulted with the veterinarian twice via phone, and at least six times via email, before taking my bird on such a lengthy journey. Second, I now know that my bird has chronic polyfolliculitis, from an undiagnosed blood mite infection. But before this diagnosis, I was desperate to find anyone to help me with my bird. This veterinarian claimed she could diagnose, if only I would bring my bird to her (the 6th veterinarian I saw, over the course of 8 months). I had a strong suspicion that my bird's trouble was blood mites, but this veterinarian rejected this and refused to even test or inspect his feathers. Instead, she took a series of X-rays, with a machine that she apparently has no idea how to use, then claimed that my bird had no spinal bones. Clearly this is because she can neither calibrate her machine, nor correctly interpret the X-rays. I have, since, had two more series of X-rays, and my bird's bones are absolutely fine. She insisted on washing him, with scented soap, and dismissed my objections. She did this because she claimed that an antifungal topical cream that another avian veterinarian had prescribed to me was causing his feather loss. The obvious logical issue with this is that the feather loss had been occuring for months before I ever used the antifungal medication. This seems to me to be as logically sound as claiming that an arm was broken after and because a doctor put a cast on it. It's, frankly, unhinged. Then she ranted about how she didn't prescribe gabapentin because she (a human woman) had a negative experience with it. She also refused to do any blood tests, because she didn't know how to interpret the results. I'm sure she would be a fine veterinarian, if she were capable of critical analysis, and a basic understanding of cause and effect. She seems to care, and I'm sure she's fine with uncomplicated cases. I don't mind that I wasted my time and money trying to treat my bird. I love him. I was willing to try anything. Nevertheless, I don't want anyone else to make the same mistake.
