I absolutely love this place!!! I have a guinea pig, a tortoise, and a dog and they are all treated with equal consideration when I come in. Dr Mitchell is knowledgeable and takes the time tto thoroughly explains things. They are never pushy with their treatments and their prices are very reasonable compared to my last vet (firehouse). When I lost my guinea pig the staff showed kindness and made me feel so comfortable during his decline- letting me work remotely from the waiting room while he was hospitalized. If you want a vet that truly cares I highly recommend!!!!

Austin Pet & Exotic Hospital Introduce

Welcome to Austin Pet & Exotic Hospital, a dedicated pet hospital located at 5712 Burnet Rd, Austin, TX 78756, USA. Serving the local community and beyond, Austin Pet & Exotic Hospital stands out as a facility committed to providing comprehensive veterinary care for a diverse range of animal companions. As a "Pet Hospital," the clinic offers a wide spectrum of services that go beyond basic check-ups, encompassing medical, surgical, and pharmaceutical needs for your pets.

Austin Pet & Exotic Hospital can be considered a specialized "Pet Hospital" with a notable focus on "Exotic" pets. This distinction is evident in the positive feedback from a customer who appreciates the "equal consideration" their guinea pig, tortoise, and dog receive. This suggests that the hospital is equipped and staffed to handle the unique health requirements of various species, making it a valuable resource for owners of non-traditional pets in the Austin area. The presence of knowledgeable veterinarians, such as Dr. Mitchell, who takes the time to explain treatments thoroughly, further reinforces the hospital's commitment to quality care.

Based on customer reviews, the environment at Austin Pet & Exotic Hospital appears to be one where pet owners can feel comfortable and supported. The positive review highlights the staff's kindness and understanding during a difficult time, allowing the owner to work remotely from the waiting room while their guinea pig was hospitalized. This level of empathy and accommodation suggests a caring and compassionate approach to both pets and their owners. The willingness to provide cost estimates for procedures also indicates transparency in their service.

The services offered at Austin Pet & Exotic Hospital are likely extensive, covering preventative care, diagnostics, treatments for illnesses and injuries, and surgical procedures. Given its categorization as a "Pet Hospital," it is expected to have facilities for hospitalization, laboratory testing, and potentially imaging services. The mention of specific treatments for a guinea pig, tortoise, and dog implies a broad range of expertise. Furthermore, as a provider of "corresponding services or goods for sale," the hospital likely includes a "pharmacy" component. This means they can dispense medications directly to pet owners, ensuring convenient access to necessary prescriptions for their animals. This in-house "pet pharmacy" is a significant feature, allowing for immediate commencement of treatment and ensuring the availability of specialized medications for various species, including exotic pets.

Key features of Austin Pet & Exotic Hospital, gleaned from the available information, include:

  • Expertise in Diverse Species: The hospital demonstrates experience in treating common pets like dogs as well as exotic animals such as guinea pigs and tortoises. This specialized knowledge is a significant advantage for owners of non-traditional pets.
  • Knowledgeable and Communicative Veterinarians: Dr. Mitchell is specifically mentioned for being knowledgeable and taking the time to explain things thoroughly to pet owners. This focus on client education fosters trust and understanding.
  • Compassionate and Supportive Staff: The positive review emphasizes the kindness and support shown by the staff during challenging times, highlighting their commitment to both the animal's and the owner's well-being.
  • Transparency in Pricing: The provision of cost estimates for procedures allows pet owners to make informed decisions about their pet's care.
  • In-house Pharmacy: As a "Pet Hospital" providing "corresponding services or goods for sale," it is highly probable that Austin Pet & Exotic Hospital operates an on-site pharmacy. This offers convenience for pet owners to obtain prescribed medications immediately. The "pharmacy" would stock a range of veterinary medications suitable for different animal species, including those with specific needs. This ensures that treatments can begin promptly and that pet owners have a reliable source for their animal's pharmaceutical requirements.

However, it is important to present a balanced view based on all available information. One customer review expresses significant dissatisfaction, citing rude front desk staff, unprofessional and not thorough care for their cat, poor communication regarding basic care like dental issues, and handling of the cat in a stressful manner. This negative feedback raises concerns about consistency in customer service and the quality of care provided in all instances. The reviewer also mentioned a quick cost estimate for surgery they were not comfortable proceeding with, indicating a potential disconnect in trust.

Considering both positive and negative feedback, potential local users should weigh the experiences shared by others. The positive aspects highlight the hospital's expertise with diverse species, knowledgeable veterinarians, compassionate staff, and likely the convenience of an in-house "pet pharmacy." This "pharmacy" component is crucial for providing immediate access to medications needed for treatment, especially for urgent cases or when specific formulations are required for exotic animals. The ability to obtain prescriptions directly from the treating veterinarian streamlines the care process and ensures accurate medication dispensing.

On the other hand, the negative review points to potential issues with front desk professionalism, thoroughness of care for certain animals (in this case, a cat), communication, and stress-free handling. These are important factors for pet owners to consider when choosing a veterinary provider.

In conclusion, Austin Pet & Exotic Hospital presents itself as a "Pet Hospital" with a valuable niche in caring for both common and exotic pets. The positive experiences shared by some customers, particularly regarding the care for diverse species and the compassionate staff, suggest a dedicated team. The likely presence of an on-site "pharmacy" further enhances its service offerings by providing convenient access to necessary medications. However, the negative feedback regarding customer service and the quality of care in one instance should prompt potential users to consider these aspects and perhaps seek further information or clarification if needed. Local users seeking a "Pet Hospital" that caters to a wide range of animals and potentially offers a convenient in-house "pharmacy" for their pet's needs should consider Austin Pet & Exotic Hospital, while also being mindful of the varying customer experiences reported.

Rude front desk staff, unprofessional and not thorough with care of my cat, let alone communicating with me how best to care for basic stuff like my cat's teeth issues. Did not handle my cat in a low-stress way for a cat. One of the vet tech helpers was lovely, but she was an exception to the male vet tech and vet I have repeatedly had issues with. But they were quick with a cost estimate of surgery I wouldn't trust them with. Would not recommend. Red flags everywhere.

We have been taking our dogs and cats to Research Pet and Bird Hospital for over 10 years now and are very happy with the care we've received. The technicians and doctors are great, and the reception is always friendly and helpful. Most recently, Dr. Wellford saw our aging chi-weenie and couldn't have been more empathetic and thorough. He thoroughly explained everything that could affect our pet and gave us many options. He even followed up with a phone call the following day to see how Sydney was doing. I couldn't be more impressed or thankful. Thanks to Dr. Wellford's treatment, I'm happy to report that Sydney is doing much better now. Thank you Research Pet and Bird.

First time here, I had to get my rabbit checked out and this place was so great. It's small and unassuming from the outside but the entire team is really friendly and professional and did a great job!
