Welcome to At Home Veterinary Care
At Home Veterinary Care, located at 6 Lewiston Rd, West Gardiner, ME 04345, USA, operates as a comprehensive "Pet Hospital" dedicated to providing veterinary services to the local community. The clinic's phone number is (207) 582-8800, and their mobile phone is +1 207-582-8800. As a pet hospital, they offer a range of medical services aimed at maintaining the health and well-being of companion animals.
The environment at At Home Veterinary Care appears to elicit mixed responses from clients. Positive feedback highlights a "warm welcome at the front desk" and a "positive and supportive environment for both pets and their owners." This suggests an initial impression of friendliness and a desire to create a comfortable atmosphere for visitors. The sentiment that staff "go above and beyond" and provide "top-notch medical care" indicates a dedication to a high standard of clinical operation and a caring approach to patient interaction. Such positive reviews suggest a welcoming and compassionate setting where pets are treated as individuals.
However, another review offers a contrasting perspective, describing the office as seeming "indifferent to pets' needs" and staff as "often rude." This suggests inconsistencies in client experience and a potential for a less accommodating atmosphere for some. Concerns about the office's policies, such as requiring in-person visits for prescription pick-ups or strict rules regarding faxed records, also contribute to a perception of inflexibility that could impact the overall client environment and convenience. The mention of automatic follow-up scheduling and charges for rescheduling without text cancellation further indicates a structured, and for some, potentially rigid, operational environment.
As a pet hospital, At Home Veterinary Care likely provides a standard range of veterinary services, typically including:
- General Wellness and Preventative Care: This would encompass routine physical examinations, vaccinations against common diseases, and parasite prevention (e.g., heartworm, flea, and tick control). The mention of "picking up Nexgard Plus" implies they dispense such preventative medications.
- Diagnostics: A pet hospital would generally offer in-house diagnostic capabilities such as blood work, urinalysis, and fecal exams. They would also likely have imaging services like X-rays to assess internal health issues.
- Medical Treatment: Diagnosis and management of various illnesses, conditions, and injuries, ranging from acute infections to chronic diseases.
- Surgical Procedures: Common surgical procedures like spaying and neutering, as well as general soft tissue surgeries.
- Dental Care: Providing professional dental cleanings and treatments to maintain oral health.
- Nutritional Counseling: Guidance on appropriate diets for different life stages and health conditions.
- Prescription Dispensing: Issuing and managing pet medications, though the review indicates strict policies regarding how these prescriptions are dispensed and accessed.
It is important to note that the review highlights specific service policies that might impact client convenience. The requirement for a physical record in the veterinarian's possession and an annual office visit to pick up certain prescriptions, along with not accepting prescriptions from other offices or faxed records for pick-up, indicates a strict adherence to their internal protocols, which some clients might find restrictive.
Based on the provided reviews, several features define At Home Veterinary Care:
- Compassionate and Knowledgeable Staff (Positive View): One of the primary features, according to positive reviews, is the presence of a "compassionate and knowledgeable veterinary staff" who "genuinely cares about each animal as an individual." This suggests a commitment to personalized and empathetic care.
- Top-Notch Medical Care (Positive View): Clients appreciate the "top-notch medical care" provided, indicating a focus on quality and effective treatment outcomes.
- Convenient Location (Initial Attraction): The clinic's location was an initial draw for at least one client, suggesting accessibility for those in the West Gardiner area.
- Strict Operational Policies (Negative View): A significant feature, as highlighted by the negative review, is the clinic's stringent policies regarding prescription pick-ups (requiring annual visits and physical records), reluctance to accept outside prescriptions/faxed records, automatic scheduling of follow-up appointments, and charges for rescheduling/future visits without text cancellation. These policies, while potentially aimed at ensuring continuous care, are perceived by some as lacking "genuine investment in quality care" or being "indifferent to pets' needs."
- Focus on In-House Engagement: The policies around prescription refills and follow-up visits suggest a business model that prioritizes in-person interaction and continued engagement with the clinic's services.
At Home Veterinary Care's promotional efforts would likely focus on their commitment to compassionate, individualized, and high-quality medical care, as highlighted by their positive testimonials. They would aim to project an image of a supportive and welcoming environment for both pets and their owners. Their website or other marketing materials might emphasize the dedication and love for animals that is clearly felt by some of their clients. They might also promote their convenient location in West Gardiner.
However, the customer reviews present a dichotomous view of the clinic's services and client experience. Positive feedback consistently praises the staff's warmth, compassion, and knowledge. Phrases like "thankful to have found a veterinary office that not only provides top-notch medical care but also genuinely cares about each animal as an individual" serve as powerful endorsements. This perspective suggests that for many clients, the clinic fulfills its promise of dedicated animal care and a supportive atmosphere.
Conversely, the negative review points to significant areas of concern that could impact potential clients' decisions. The issues highlighted—rudeness, indifference to pet needs, pushing "unnecessary office visits," strict prescription policies (not allowing pick-up without an annual visit or from outside veterinarians), and automatic follow-up scheduling with associated fees for non-cancellation—paint a picture of a practice that, for some, prioritizes internal procedures over client convenience and perceived genuine care. The direct comparison to a more distant "caring, helpful, and knowledgeable" alternative clinic underscores the depth of dissatisfaction experienced by this client.
Therefore, while At Home Veterinary Care promotes itself (implicitly through positive reviews) as a facility offering excellent, compassionate care, potential users should be aware of the varied customer experiences, particularly concerning operational policies and perceived staff demeanor. It would be advisable for new clients to inquire about specific policies regarding prescriptions, follow-up visits, and record transfers to ensure they align with their expectations for veterinary care.

May 15, 2025 · Brody Chicken CoyoteI usually do not post negative reviews, but if I were seeking a veterinarian for my pet, I would appreciate knowing what the offices are like beforehand. I cannot recommend this place due to multiple issues that I have encountered. Initially attracted by the convenient location, I now prefer my previous veterinary office, Sunray Vet Clinic in Brunswick, despite its distance. The staff there is caring, helpful, and knowledgeable, which makes the trip worthwhile. In contrast, this office seems indifferent to pets' needs, they are often rude (even when you are being polite and making an effort to work with them) and they really push for unnecessary office visits, such as for picking up Nexgard Plus, they will not allow it unless you provide a physical record in the veterinarian's possession that shows everything is current AND you have made an annual visit to their office. They will not even let you to pick up a prescription written by a veterinarian from a different office; and a faxed record detailing recent care from your veterinarian will not be enough. When you bring your pet in for any type of visit they automatically schedule you for a follow up and charge deposits for rescheduling or future visits if you don’t cancel via text, which isn’t communicated upfront. Overall, I feel they lack genuine investment in quality care.
May 19, 2025 · Lacie LangdonThis vet used to be amazing when Doctor Flowers was there. I was there not too long ago for my dog to have a full exam, and when I asked for paperwork saying he's been neutered, they couldn't determine whether he was or not. How is that possible when he just had a full body exam??? The prices are ridiculous, staff are rude, and they always recommend Lewiston or Portland for an er vet, both of which are the worst er vets you could go to. Definitely do not recommend this vet. If you love your pet as much as I do, I suggest doing research into a new and better veterinary office.
May 12, 2025 · Leah VirginMy dog is very shy but the vet techs and receptionist are always so friendly and very gentle with her. I have been so happy with the way my vet has dealt with my dog’s illness, she has gone to great lengths to explain everything very carefully to me and her treatment plan has been very reasonable. I know whenever I bring my dog in she is in safe hands.
