God bless the staff of this amazing vet clinic. I called them in desperation after my fiv positive cat started suffering horrible seizures following an illness he was struggling to recover from. Not ONE vet in Decatur could get him in. They were either closed, fully booked, or basically indifferent to the anguish I was enduring, watching my furbaby struggle to live. But this clinic got him right in, and they were truly warm, compassionate, and comforting. They helped me through one of the most heartbreaking experiences of my life, with putting my sweet furbaby to rest. THANK YOU!! This clinic, and Animal Kingdom in Taylorville are forever my two trusted small town vet clinics. I was moved to tears to receive such a beautiful condolence card from them. The love they clearly have for the furbabies they treat is unparalleled.

Welcome to Assumption Veterinary Clinic
As a notable establishment within the Pet Hospital category, **Assumption Veterinary Clinic** serves the community of Assumption, IL, located at 221 N Business 51, Assumption, IL 62510, USA. This clinic aims to provide veterinary services to local pet owners, with a focus on caring for animal companions, particularly during their most challenging times. The clinic operates within a small-town setting, often implying a close-knit relationship with its clientele and a strong community focus.
Assumption Veterinary Clinic, as a functioning pet hospital, maintains the necessary facilities to provide veterinary medical care. While specific details about the interior design or advanced technological infrastructure are not explicitly available, a veterinary clinic typically includes examination rooms, a reception area, and spaces for basic diagnostic procedures and treatments. The emphasis from client reviews on the clinic's "warm, compassionate, and comforting" atmosphere suggests an environment designed to put both pets and their owners at ease, especially during stressful or emotional visits. The ability to accommodate urgent cases, even when other larger clinics are fully booked, points to a flexible and responsive operational model within their facility. As a small-town clinic, it likely prioritizes a more personal and accessible setting for its local community members.
Assumption Veterinary Clinic provides a range of essential veterinary services that are typical for a primary care animal hospital. Based on the provided information and general expectations of a pet hospital, their services would include:
General Wellness and Preventative Care: This forms the core of their practice, encompassing routine check-ups, physical examinations, and potentially tailored vaccination schedules to protect pets from common diseases. Preventative care also includes advice on nutrition and parasite control.
Vaccinations: The clinic provides necessary vaccinations for pets, although client feedback suggests varying approaches regarding mandatory exams accompanying vaccinations.
Emergency and Urgent Care: As highlighted by a desperate client with a seizing cat, the clinic is capable of taking in urgent cases, demonstrating a commitment to providing immediate attention for critical situations when other clinics might be unavailable. This rapid response is a significant aspect of their service.
Compassionate End-of-Life Care: A deeply appreciated service, the clinic provides empathetic support during euthanasia, as evidenced by the "heartbreaking experience" described by a client. The "beautiful condolence card" sent afterwards underscores their dedication to providing comfort and understanding to grieving pet owners.
Diagnostic Services: While not explicitly detailed, a veterinary clinic would typically offer basic diagnostic capabilities, such as in-house blood tests or other lab work, to aid in diagnosing illnesses.
Minor Procedures/Treatments: This would cover a range of non-surgical or minimally invasive treatments for various pet ailments.
Pet Licensing/Tags: The clinic is involved in the process of pet licensing and tag issuance, as indicated by a client's experience regarding obtaining tags after vaccination.
The most striking feature of Assumption Veterinary Clinic, as passionately conveyed by one client, is their profound **compassion and empathy**, particularly during emotionally charged situations like euthanasia. The client was "moved to tears" by their "warm, compassionate, and comforting" approach, and the "beautiful condolence card." This level of emotional support and genuine care for "furbabies" and their owners is described as "unparalleled" and positions the clinic as a deeply trusted partner during difficult times. Their willingness to accommodate an emergency when larger city clinics were "indifferent to the anguish" further exemplifies their commitment to urgent and humane care.
However, another review presents a contrasting and highly critical perspective, focusing on the client experience with a "new doctor" after the passing of Dr. Phinney. Concerns were raised about the new doctor's impersonal approach, specifically "walking in without even introducing herself to my dog, seeing her sneak up behind my dog, and stick her." This led to the dog limping and crying for a week, and the clinic's response being dismissive ("it’s no big deal. She’ll get over it!!"). This review also highlights issues with pricing and perceived unnecessary mandatory exams for vaccinations, suggesting that the clinic "manipulate and extort our community, especially the elderly and the ones who have to rely on a set income." The comparison to "Animal Kingdom in Taylorville" offering a vaccine without an exam for significantly less money further exacerbates this concern about transparency and affordability.
These contrasting reviews indicate that while the clinic has a strong reputation for compassionate end-of-life care and responsiveness in emergencies, there may be inconsistencies in patient-doctor interaction and communication regarding service requirements and pricing, particularly after a change in veterinary staff. The positive feedback highlights their empathetic nature and willingness to assist in crises, while the negative feedback points to potential challenges in routine care interaction and cost transparency.
Assumption Veterinary Clinic is situated at 221 N Business 51, Assumption, IL 62510, USA. This central location makes it accessible to residents of Assumption and the surrounding rural areas. Clients can reach the clinic by phone at **(217) 226-3733** or via mobile at **+1 217-226-3733**. The clinic's ability to take in urgent cases, even when fully booked, suggests a flexible and responsive operational model that serves as a key promotional aspect, especially for those in desperate need. The glowing endorsement for their compassionate end-of-life care is also a strong point of distinction, attracting clients who prioritize such sensitivity during difficult moments. While specific ongoing promotional offers are not detailed, the clinic's reputation as a "trusted small town vet clinic" and its perceived community service by some clients serve as a form of organic promotion. However, concerns about pricing and mandatory services as highlighted in the negative review are also part of the objective assessment of their client-facing operations.

Sep 10, 2024 · Christa LogsdonTheir new doctor after Dr. Phinney died was so impersonal she walked in without even introducing herself to my dog, seeing her sneak up behind my dog, and stick her, I was kind of awestruck?!! She didn’t say hi to my dog she didn’t distract my dog she snuck up behind my dog and stuck her in the muscle!!! Look at the picture can you imagine being like that to such a sweet dog?! my dog limped and cried for a week!! When I called the vet in hysterics all they said was it’s no big deal. She’ll get over it!! I was not happy. Then next year when I needed another shot. They said well we can’t give you the shot unless you take an exam also for $128. And if you take that you also have to do this for $100. It ends up costing huge amounts of money. And none of it was necessary. Because in Taylorville, Illinois 20 minutes away there is a great vet. Who will do the shot without an exam for 20 bucks? Animal Kingdom had all of the care and personalization that assumption veterinary clinic lacked. Then I went to Taylorville and got the shot had an appointment set up with them here to get my tags and now they say you gotta go get him from the county because you didn’t get the shot here!!! They manipulate and extort our community, especially the elderly and the ones who have to rely on a set income!! this is a terrible place ran in a terrible way

Dec 21, 2023 · Libby PasquarielloI would highly recommend Dr. Forden and her staff to anyone! She has gone above and beyond to answer questions for our Yorkie that has lots of special needs and our cat as well. Without breaking the bank or pushing unwanted treatments or tests. Thanks so much Dr. Forden!
Nov 04, 2022 · Casey DanburyA little over 3 years ago was my first visit to AVC. I had 2 American Bully pups and they were sick. Really sick. I brought them in to see Doc. He ran some tests and confirmed what I feared. They had Parvo. He said they had a very small chance for survival. He gave them some meds and explained to me in great detail what I need to do for them. Sent the girls home with medicine and my directions. I did as I told and checked in to Doc daily. After a couple of days and no real signs of improvement I was ready to give up. I couldn't watch them suffer anymore. He told me not to give up yet and give them a couple more days. Sure enough by the second day they did a 180. If it weren't for Doc, Tee and Pam I wouldn't have my girls today. They're the best!
