I came here in July with my dog who was attacked at a dog park. His entire hind leg area was lacerated and I was completely panicked and a total mess. I called Arlington animal hospital in this emergency situation and they told me to immediately come over even with the fact that I resided out of the area. The vet and staff reassured me throughout the entire process and I could not be more grateful for the compassion and care these people offered my pup and I. I am forever indebted to it. POGO AND I LOVE YOU!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU!!!!!!!

Welcome to Arlington Animal Hospital

Arlington Animal Hospital, situated at 688 Dutchess Turnpike, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603, operates as a comprehensive "Pet Hospital" dedicated to providing veterinary care for beloved animal companions in the Poughkeepsie area. With a history of serving the community, this facility aims to offer a range of services designed to address the diverse health needs of pets, from routine wellness to emergency situations.

Environment

The environment at Arlington Animal Hospital is crucial for both pets and their owners, especially during stressful times. One significant positive aspect highlighted by a client is the hospital's responsiveness and ability to handle emergency situations with immediate attention. In a highly panicked scenario involving a dog with severe lacerations, the client was told to "immediately come over even with the fact that I resided out of the area." This demonstrates a commitment to urgent care and a willingness to extend assistance beyond their immediate local vicinity. The staff, including the veterinarians, were noted for their reassuring presence throughout the entire process, showcasing compassion and a focus on comforting both the distressed pet and the owner. This suggests an environment where empathy and quick action are prioritized during critical moments.

However, it is important to acknowledge that past experiences with the environment, particularly regarding the front desk staff, have drawn criticism. Some long-term clients describe the front staff as "rather crude," "downright snide and obnoxious," and lacking a smile, which contributed to an "assembly line vibe" and a feeling of being "coerced into finding another vet." While this feedback contrasts with the high praise for the veterinary and technical staff during emergencies, it indicates that the overall client experience at the front of the hospital may have varied. This suggests that while the clinical care can be outstanding, the initial interaction point may have presented challenges for some clients.

Services

As a "Pet Hospital," Arlington Animal Hospital provides a broad spectrum of veterinary services, typically covering essential pet health needs. While specific exhaustive lists of all services may vary and require direct inquiry, based on the general nature of a comprehensive animal hospital and client reviews, the following services are likely to be offered:

  • Emergency and Urgent Care: As evidenced by a client's experience with a severely injured dog, the hospital is equipped and responsive to handle emergency situations, providing critical immediate medical attention for sudden illnesses or injuries.

  • General Wellness and Preventive Care: This is a foundational service, including routine physical examinations, vaccinations, and parasite control (e.g., flea, tick, heartworm prevention). Regular check-ups are essential for early detection and prevention of diseases.

  • Diagnostic Services: A modern pet hospital would typically offer in-house laboratory testing (blood work, urinalysis, fecal exams) and imaging capabilities such as X-rays (radiography) to diagnose conditions accurately and efficiently. Advanced imaging like ultrasound may also be available.

  • Surgical Procedures: The hospital would perform various surgical interventions, ranging from routine spaying and neutering to more complex soft tissue surgeries, necessary for treating injuries (like lacerations from dog attacks) and other medical conditions.

  • Dental Care: Comprehensive dental services, including cleanings, extractions, and oral health assessments, are usually provided to maintain pets' overall health and prevent periodontal disease.

  • Internal Medicine: Diagnosis and management of a wide range of non-surgical conditions affecting internal organs, such as diabetes, kidney disease, and gastrointestinal issues.

  • Pain Management: Providing solutions for both acute and chronic pain to improve the quality of life for pets, especially after injuries or surgeries.

  • Microchipping: A common service to help identify lost pets and facilitate their safe return to owners.

  • Nutritional Counseling: Guidance on appropriate diets for pets of all ages and with specific health conditions.

  • Pharmacy: An in-house pharmacy for convenient access to prescribed medications and potentially specialized pet food.

Features

Several features define Arlington Animal Hospital's operations and reputation:

  • Responsive Emergency Care: A key feature is their ability to respond quickly and effectively to emergency situations, even for clients residing outside their immediate service area. The willingness to accept an immediate walk-in for a severe injury demonstrates a strong commitment to critical care.

  • Compassionate Veterinary and Technical Staff: The veterinarians and technicians are consistently praised for their compassion, care, and reassuring demeanor, especially during highly stressful events. This empathetic approach is invaluable for pet owners and their distressed animals.

  • Experienced Doctors: The mention of specific doctors like Dr. Standnes and Dr. Quattro (even in a historical context) suggests a history of skilled and respected veterinarians who have provided excellent medical care.

  • Comprehensive Medical Facilities: As a full-service animal hospital, it is presumed to have the necessary equipment and facilities for diagnostics, surgery, and ongoing medical treatment.

  • Long-Standing Presence: A 20-year history of client loyalty, despite some recent changes, indicates a foundational level of trust and quality care provided over many years.

However, a notable feature that has impacted client perception is the reported "corporate" vibe and the perceived unprofessionalism of the front desk staff. This suggests a challenge in maintaining a consistently welcoming and sympathetic atmosphere throughout all levels of client interaction, particularly at the initial point of contact.

Promotional Information

Based on the services offered and client feedback, the promotional efforts of Arlington Animal Hospital would likely focus on the following key aspects:

  • Reliable Emergency Response: Highlighting their capability and willingness to provide immediate care for urgent and emergency situations, offering peace of mind to pet owners facing a crisis. The compelling testimonial of the dog attack rescue would be a powerful promotional story.

  • Compassionate and Expert Clinical Team: Emphasizing the caring, reassuring, and knowledgeable nature of their veterinarians and technicians, underscoring their dedication to animal well-being and client support.

  • Comprehensive Pet Health Solutions: Promoting the wide range of services available under one roof, from preventive care to diagnostics and surgery, positioning the hospital as a complete solution for pet health needs.

  • Long-Term Trusted Care: Leveraging their history and long-standing presence in the Poughkeepsie community to convey reliability and established expertise.

For inquiries or to schedule an appointment, pet owners can contact Arlington Animal Hospital at (845) 473-0301. While the hospital has experienced some internal changes that have affected client perception regarding administrative staff, the fundamental quality of the veterinary care and the compassion shown by the medical team, especially during emergencies, remain a strong reason for its continued relevance in the Poughkeepsie pet care landscape.

This place used to be great and I have been going here for 20 years, but with the recent doctor and staff changes I had to make a change. It became too corporate with an unsympathetic assembly line vibe. The front staff were always rather crude but I tolerated them. However today they were downright snide and obnoxious and they know who they are! They essentially coerced me into finding another vet. I did, and now I wish I did it years ago. Unfortunately I will miss Dr Standnes because he was terrific. So was Dr. Quattro, but enough is enough!

Arlington Animal Hospital is top notch! The staff and doctors are thorough, caring and knowledgeable. All very experienced. Dr. Quattro is the best. They follow up with you before you have a chance to call them. I wouldn’t go anywhere else!
