We brought my mom’s cat here and unfortunately had to put him down. This was very tough, but the staff were so patient, understanding and kind. The vet answered all of our questions with patience. He also gave us time to process the situation. The staff here did everything they could to make us feel comfortable in a difficult time. I hope you never need to seek emergency vet services but if you do, the staff here are very supportive.

Environment and Philosophy

The environment at the Animal Hospital of Rochester is designed to be welcoming and supportive for both pets and their owners. As a full-service animal hospital, it likely features dedicated examination rooms, a surgical suite, diagnostic imaging areas (X-ray, ultrasound), and an in-house laboratory. This allows for quick and efficient diagnosis and treatment planning. The hospital's philosophy, as evidenced by customer reviews, centers on patience, understanding, and kindness, especially during difficult times. This humane approach is crucial in a veterinary setting, where pets can often be stressed and owners may be experiencing emotional distress. The physical space is expected to be clean, organized, and equipped with the necessary tools to provide high-quality medical care. The staff are trained not only in veterinary medicine but also in client communication, ensuring pet owners feel informed and supported throughout their visit.

Comprehensive Services Offered

The Animal Hospital of Rochester provides a broad spectrum of veterinary services, addressing the health needs of pets across all life stages. These services include:

  • General Wellness & Preventive Care: This forms the cornerstone of their practice, with annual wellness exams to evaluate overall health, detect problems early, and maintain long-term well-being. This includes vaccinations, microchipping, and year-round parasite control for fleas, ticks, and heartworms. They often offer "PAW Plans" (Pet Annual Wellness Plans) to make preventive care more structured and manageable for pet owners.
  • Diagnostic Services: Equipped with advanced diagnostic tools, the hospital offers radiography (X-rays) and ultrasound for comprehensive assessments of internal organs, skeletal structures, and to identify various illnesses or injuries. An in-house laboratory allows for timely blood tests, urinalysis, and fecal exams, enabling prompt diagnosis and treatment.
  • Dental Care: Recognizing the importance of oral health, the hospital provides comprehensive dental services, including annual dental exams, cleanings, and dental radiography to identify and treat dental diseases that can impact a pet's overall health.
  • Surgical Services: A full range of surgical procedures are offered, including routine spay/neuter operations, soft tissue surgeries for various medical reasons, and potentially more advanced procedures. The surgical suite is equipped for safe anesthesia and patient monitoring.
  • Holistic & Therapy Services: Some advanced services like laser therapy may be available. Laser therapy is a non-invasive, drug-free treatment to reduce pain, inflammation, and accelerate healing for both acute and chronic conditions.
  • Diet & Nutrition Counseling: The team provides guidance on proper diet and nutrition to help pets maintain a healthy weight, fight disease, and promote overall well-being.
  • Emergency Services: While specific details on 24/7 emergency care aren't provided, the nature of a "Pet Hospital" suggests they are equipped to handle urgent cases during business hours, often stabilizing pets before referral to specialized emergency veterinary hospitals if needed. Customer reviews also highlight their support during emergency situations.
  • End-of-Life Care: The hospital provides compassionate end-of-life services, including euthanasia and cremation options, to support pet owners through the difficult process of saying goodbye to their beloved companions. The reviews specifically commend their sensitivity in these situations.
Key Features and Client-Centered Approach

A defining feature of the Animal Hospital of Rochester is its client-centered and empathetic approach. Customer testimonials consistently highlight the staff's kindness, patience, and understanding, particularly in emotionally challenging circumstances. This is evident in the review where a pet owner describes putting down their cat: "This was very tough, but the staff were so patient, understanding and kind. The vet answered all of our questions with patience. He also gave us time to process the situation. The staff here did everything they could to make us feel comfortable in a difficult time." This demonstrates a commitment to not only the pet's well-being but also to supporting the human-animal bond.

Another significant feature is their thoroughness and willingness to explain findings in detail. The review regarding the cat's sonogram illustrates this: "The ladies were very friendly, and even though the test was somewhat complicated due to my cat's inability to lie down at certain angles, they made sure she was comfortable throughout the process. They even gave her treats to help them get all the images they needed. They didn't rush the test and gave my cat time to calm down before continuing. They also explained the findings to me in detail as they performed the test." This indicates a dedication to both patient comfort during procedures and clear communication with pet owners, fostering trust and understanding.

Furthermore, as an Animal Hospital, they are equipped to provide a higher level of care and diagnostic capabilities compared to basic clinics. The ability to perform sonograms, for instance, speaks to their investment in advanced diagnostic imaging, allowing for more precise diagnoses.

Promotional Information

While specific, continuously running public promotions are not always overtly advertised on general information sites, veterinary hospitals often have ongoing offers or membership programs. Common promotional strategies for pet hospitals like the Animal Hospital of Rochester include:

  • PAW Plans / Wellness Programs: These are recurring plans that bundle preventive services like exams, vaccinations, and certain diagnostics into affordable monthly payments, encouraging consistent care and potentially offering savings over individual service costs.
  • Referral Programs: Many hospitals offer incentives for existing clients who refer new clients, such as a credit on their account for both the referrer and the new client.
  • Seasonal Promotions: These could include discounts on dental cleanings during Dental Health Month, reduced rates for spay/neuter services, or special offers on seasonal parasite prevention products (e.g., Heartgard and Nexgard rebates).
  • New Client Offers: Some hospitals offer a discount on the first exam for new patients to encourage them to experience their services.

I was referred to this place by my regular veterinarian because my cat needed a sonogram. The ladies were very friendly, and even though the test was somewhat complicated due to my cat's inability to lie down at certain angles, they made sure she was comfortable throughout the process. They even gave her treats to help them get all the images they needed. They didn't rush the test and gave my cat time to calm down before continuing. They also explained the findings to me in detail as they performed the test.

I give every member of the team 5/5 stars. From the front desk, to the triage nurse, to the vet the service was impeccable. We unfortunately had to say goodbye to our furry friend, but we were met with such care and compassion. We were an emergent case, and Salem was brought straight back and we spoke to the doctor less than 15 minutes later. I could not have asked for a better care team when I had to say goodbye to my best friend.

Thank you for triaging Stella so quickly. We lucked out and hopefully we never have you visit you again but it's comforting to know you are there if need be.

It was very crowded when I arrived despite having been told to come right over. The staff was very helpful and triage person was communicative about the priority of the severe cases being seen first. She went around to everyone in waiting room. We were told we were low priority so it could be hours. We opted to not wait. Reception person recommended where to take cat the next day and gave me instructions to keep our cat comfortable overnight.
