Our vet recommended Animal Eye Center and I can see why - this office is very professional and the care they provide is top notch. Each of our visits have been thorough in all regards - from taking the time to examine our dog to thoroughly explain what they're finding and encouraging questions to being thoughtful in scheduling visits around our hectic personal schedules. I couldn't more highly recommend this place and the staff (specifically Dr. De Castro).

Located at 215 W 67th Ct, Loveland, CO 80538, this clinic is not a general veterinary practice but rather a dedicated center for veterinary ophthalmology. This specialization means they provide comprehensive, advanced, and often life-changing eye care for animals, as evidenced by glowing client testimonials that speak to their professionalism, thoroughness, and the miraculous restoration of sight.
The environment at Animal Eye Center, PC, is meticulously designed to support specialized ophthalmic diagnostics and surgical procedures while ensuring a professional and comfortable experience for pets and their owners. While general aesthetic details are not provided, the consistent feedback regarding their "very professional" approach suggests a clinical setting that is impeccably clean, organized, and equipped with state-of-the-art diagnostic and surgical tools specific to eye care. This would include specialized ophthalmic examination equipment, advanced imaging modalities, and a sterile operating room environment for delicate eye surgeries. The clinic's layout is likely optimized for precise diagnostics and efficient patient flow, allowing for thorough examinations without rushing. Crucially, despite the highly specialized nature of the work, the environment is permeated by a sense of care and patience. As one reviewer noted, the staff takes "the time to examine our dog" and "thoroughly explain what they're finding and encouraging questions," indicating an atmosphere where complex medical information is communicated clearly and compassionately. The positive interactions, especially Dr. Burgesser's "beautiful" way of interacting with animals, further contribute to a calming and trusting environment, even for pets undergoing significant procedures like cataract surgery.
Animal Eye Center, PC, as a highly specialized "Pet Hospital" focusing exclusively on ophthalmology, offers a distinct and advanced range of services. These are tailored to diagnose, treat, and manage a wide variety of eye conditions in animals:
- Comprehensive Ophthalmic Examinations: Beyond a general vet check, these involve specialized equipment and techniques to thoroughly assess all structures of the eye, including the eyelids, conjunctiva, cornea, iris, lens, and retina. This includes tonometry (eye pressure measurement for glaucoma), slit lamp biomicroscopy, and indirect ophthalmoscopy.
- Cataract Diagnosis and Surgery: As highlighted by a client's experience with "Rasta boy," cataract removal surgery is a key service. This delicate microsurgical procedure involves removing the clouded lens and often implanting an artificial intraocular lens to restore vision.
- Glaucoma Diagnosis and Management: This involves diagnosing elevated intraocular pressure, which can lead to blindness, and developing medical or surgical treatment plans to preserve vision.
- Corneal Disease Treatment: Addressing a range of conditions affecting the clear outer layer of the eye, including ulcers, injuries, and degenerative conditions, through medical management or specialized surgical techniques.
- Eyelid Abnormalities Correction: Surgical correction of conditions like entropion (inward rolling eyelids) or ectropion (outward rolling eyelids), which can cause discomfort or damage to the eye.
- Retinal Disease Diagnosis: Utilizing electroretinography (ERG) and other advanced diagnostics to identify and manage conditions affecting the retina, the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye.
- Ocular Oncology: Diagnosis and treatment of tumors affecting the eye or surrounding structures.
- Uveitis Management: Treating inflammation of the uvea, the middle layer of the eye, which can cause pain and vision loss.
- Neuro-Ophthalmology: Addressing eye problems that stem from neurological issues.
- Genetic Eye Disease Screening: For certain breeds predisposed to hereditary eye conditions.

The "miracle that is sight" after cataract surgery, as described by a grateful owner, powerfully demonstrates their surgical prowess and dedication to restoring quality of life. Another key feature is their exceptional professionalism combined with profound compassion. Reviewers praise their thoroughness in examination and explanation, taking "the time to examine our dog to thoroughly explain what they're finding," while also being "thoughtful in scheduling visits around our hectic personal schedules." Dec 16, 2024 路 Gary ChitwoodThis was the second time Dr. Roberts diagnosed my dog鈥檚 eye problem when other vets had missed it. He went out of his way to treat us with patience and kindness, and gave Bear top-notch care. I highly recommend Dr. Roberts!
Nov 17, 2024 路 Sara CMy service pup developed aggressive glaucoma back in November of 2024. After multiple vets and Opthalmologist, I found Animal Eye Center of Loveland. They are an hour away, so I wanted to make sure it was worth driving before putting my girl through any long hauls. The front desk staff listened to her whole history and pasted on her records to Dr. Roberts who reviewed them (dozens of pages). He responded in length via email the same day (all this before even establishing care). He had more technology available than any of the other vets we had been to, so I scheduled an appointment and brought my girl in. The whole team was kind, present, and gentle with both my girl and with me (it's been a rough few months). During and since that first visit, Dr. Roberts spent so much time and consideration with us, coming up with new approaches to her treatment almost weekly due to shifts in her condition. On Monday, she had her final eye removed because the drops stopped working (no fault of anyone...Just the nature of this aggressive and unpredictable disease). Because she was now mostly blind, and she is my psychiatric service dog, it felt very important to me that I be with her through as much of the process as possible. They let me stay with her comfortably in an exam room while her medicine kicked in, and returned us to peaceful quiet in the same room once she had begun her recovery phase from surgery. She struggled with the anesthesia recovery this time, so I'm so grateful to have been able to be by her side throughout. I cannot say enough about how grateful I am for Dr. Roberts and his team of angels. They all made what has been a nightmare so much less scary and stressful. With there patience, understanding, and accommodating nature's, they held us so lovingly as my girl and I walked through this transitional phase together; from my service angel supporting me through my disability, to my disabled angel who continues to teach me what it means to love, trust, and persevere unconditionally. I feel blessed that we were guided by God to reach out to the Animal Eye Center team, and I pray God continues to bless and keep them and everyone who walks through their doors. Shalom 鉂わ笍
Mar 05, 2025 路 AshtaniWe were referred to Animal Eye Center from our vet when our puppy had an eye condition that they weren鈥檛 able to treat. Dr. Burgesser, Laughlin and the rest of the staff were amazing to deal with. They treated our puppy with care and concern and found the root of the problem immediately. I would not hesitate to recommend anyone to this fantastic practice! Thank you!!!
