NEVER take your precious animal to this emergency hospital! I was visiting my son in North Carolina from Texas. My dog became ill and was throwing up. I drove an hour and a half so my sweet Charlie could get some help. I got there at 11pm. They checked us in and looked at Charlie鈥檚 gums and said they were pink and he was not dehydrated. My sweet Charlie continued to throw up in their lobby and nobody even came out to check on him. We were finally escorted to a room around 2:45am where my dog continued to throw up. The vet tech finally came in the room around 3:30am and took Charlie back to get some blood work done. When they got the blood back, they asked me if I fed my dog table scraps. She said that I should never have fed my dog table scraps. Basically, she said that I caused this problem for my Charlie. The only table scraps my dog got were chicken, carrots, or green beans. They said that his blood work was extremely high and he had a 105.3 fever. They let us sit in that lobby for hours while they continued to take other dogs back because my dogs gums were pink 馃槨. I picked my dog up a day later and took him to another emergency hospital in North Carolina, where they did an Ultrasound on him. They said my sweet Charlie had cancer. He had nodules on his spleen and pancreas. He was in so much pain. The veterinarian at the hospital that did the ultrasound said the medication that this facility had him on was nowhere near strong enough for the pain he was enduring. To top it off, this facility is filthy. Please look at the pictures and never take your animal to this facility. I would highly recommend Eastern Carolina veterinary hospital over this place.

Welcome to Animal Emergency Hospital of the Strand

Welcome to Animal Emergency Hospital of the Strand, an emergency Pet Hospital located at 2669 Beaver Run Blvd, Myrtle Beach, SC 29575, USA. Serving the Myrtle Beach and surrounding communities, this facility is dedicated to providing immediate and critical veterinary care for pets during emergencies. As an emergency Pet Hospital, their focus is on addressing urgent and life-threatening health situations that require immediate attention outside of regular veterinary clinic hours.

Information regarding the environment of Animal Emergency Hospital of the Strand is limited and conflicting based on the provided reviews. One reviewer describes the facility as "filthy," urging others to look at pictures (though no pictures were provided in the text). This is a serious accusation and, if accurate, would indicate a potentially unsanitary environment for treating vulnerable animals. Conversely, the other reviewer focuses on the swift and professional actions of the medical team without commenting on the cleanliness of the facility. Given this discrepancy, it is difficult to provide an objective description of the hospital's environment based solely on these reviews. Potential users may want to consider this conflicting information and seek further insights if possible.

The services offered at Animal Emergency Hospital of the Strand are primarily centered around emergency and critical veterinary care. One of the provided reviews details a case of Gastric Dilatation-Volvulus (GDV), also known as bloat or stomach flip, in a dog named Gus. The reviewer explicitly states that this condition is a medical emergency requiring immediate veterinary intervention. The fact that Dr. Dana Goodman was able to diagnose Gus almost immediately and Dr. Brian Rakauskas performed the critical emergency surgery necessary to save the dog's life highlights the hospital's capability in handling complex and life-threatening conditions. This case demonstrates their ability to provide timely diagnosis, surgical intervention, and potentially post-operative care in emergency situations.

However, the other review presents a significantly different experience. The reviewer brought their dog, Charlie, to the hospital due to vomiting. Despite the dog continuing to vomit in the lobby, there was a considerable delay in being seen. The initial assessment included checking gum color and stating the dog was not dehydrated. Later, blood work revealed a high fever and significantly elevated blood values. The reviewer felt that the initial assessment was inadequate and that their dog's critical condition was not recognized promptly. Furthermore, they express dissatisfaction with the explanation provided for the elevated blood work and the perceived delay in receiving appropriate care. This account raises concerns about the triage process, diagnostic accuracy, and the timeliness of care for all emergency cases.

Features of Animal Emergency Hospital of the Strand, based on the provided reviews, present a mixed perspective:

  • Emergency Surgical Capabilities: Demonstrated ability to perform critical emergency surgeries such as those required for GDV.
  • Experienced Veterinarians: Dr. Dana Goodman and Dr. Brian Rakauskas are mentioned by name and credited with saving a dog's life in an emergency situation.
  • Potentially Swift Action in Some Cases: The GDV case highlights a rapid diagnosis and immediate surgical response.
  • Concerns Regarding Triage and Timeliness: The other review suggests potential issues with the initial assessment and the time taken to provide care in another emergency situation.
  • Questions About Diagnostic Thoroughness: The contrasting outcomes and the delayed recognition of a serious condition in one case raise concerns about the consistency of diagnostic procedures.
  • Allegations of Unsanitary Conditions: One reviewer explicitly describes the facility as "filthy," which, if accurate, is a significant negative feature.

The significant disparity between the two customer experiences makes it challenging to provide a uniformly positive or negative description of the hospital's features. The successful handling of the GDV case indicates the presence of skilled professionals and the capacity for complex emergency interventions. However, the negative account raises serious concerns about the initial assessment, the timeliness of care, communication with pet owners, and potentially the cleanliness of the facility.

Currently, there is no promotional information available for Animal Emergency Hospital of the Strand based on the provided data. Emergency veterinary hospitals typically focus on providing immediate care rather than offering promotional deals. Their services are usually sought out of necessity rather than through marketing campaigns. To inquire about their specific services, hours of operation, and any payment policies, it is recommended to contact them directly.

In conclusion, Animal Emergency Hospital of the Strand in Myrtle Beach, SC, is an emergency Pet Hospital that appears to have the capability to handle critical veterinary situations, as evidenced by the successful treatment of a GDV case. However, a contrasting customer review raises serious concerns about the triage process, the timeliness and thoroughness of care in another emergency, communication with pet owners, and the cleanliness of the facility. Local users should be aware of these differing experiences when considering this hospital for their pet emergencies. It is advisable to weigh the positive outcome in one critical case against the significant concerns raised in the other review and potentially seek additional information or have a primary emergency plan in place with a trusted veterinary provider if possible. Given the gravity of emergency situations, having a clear understanding of the available options and their potential strengths and weaknesses is crucial for responsible pet ownership.

Thank God for this place! They are a talented team that worked swiftly and professionally to save the life of my best friend - Gus and I will forever be indebted to them! Around 10:00 pm on this past St. Patrick's Day, Gus suddenly began dry-heaving and was trying desperately to vomit but nothing was coming out. Then he started yelping in pain. Turns out Gus had just experienced GDV (Gastric Dilatation-Volvulus) or more commonly known as Bloat or Stomach Flip. This condition should always be treated as an emergency situation and you should seek veterinary care immediately. If left untreated, the pet would go into shock within a couple of hours followed by an almost certain death. Thankfully I was able to get Gus to the Animal Emergency Hospital of the Strand in under 30 minutes. As soon as we arrived, Dr. Dana Goodman was able to diagnose Gus almost immediately and called in Dr. Brian Rakauskas to perform the critical emergency surgical procedure necessary to save Gus's life. Gus is a 65 lb mixed-breed rescue that I rescued at 5 weeks old. Gus is now over 12 years old and has had several other significant health issues throughout his life (cryptorchidism, rear hip dysplasia, several lumpectomies. etc...) so the odds were already stacked against him. Gus has been well taken care of and received excellent veterinary care most all of his life. Gus has been a faithful & loyal companion who's helped me get through the toughest years of my life, especially the last two. Now that things have started to improve in my life; I certainly want Gus by my side to experience the brighter side with me so I'm not ready to say "good bye" to him quite yet. And due to Dr. Goodman, Dr. Rakauskas and the excellent team at the Animal Hospital of the Strand; I did not have to worry about that the other night. From the bottom of my full and happy heart, thank you so very much. I will be forever grateful.

Took my dog because he is diabetic and in a emergency situation, when I picked him up they didn't finish and I I had to bring him to his vet because they were closing. They put a lebre 3 meter and sensor to measure his glucose at the tune of 455 bucks total bill was 1600 the meter wasn't reading right and my vet confirmed it so I called abbot the manufacturer and they said it wasn't designed for pets only humans and they told me to contact the hospital that put it on him. I did and waited a week for a call back. Emerald was rude said I signed for it and would only charge me for another one. I wanted a replacement or my money back and would return this broken junk and was upset when she kept saying she wouldn't work with me I signed a paper. When I told her I would be calling the veterinary medical board she told me I was threatening her and told me I was being banned from all the locations to never bring my dog back leaving me in a life and death situation if my dog gets sick overnight in they have no other animal emergency rooms within 50 miles from me. The picture shows is 68 points higher than his blood glucose reading so if it drop to 80 at night and the alarm didn't go off he would go I into hyperglycemia and damage organs, seizure and death. I'm still in shock they could sell a 455 dollar defective product that wasn't designed for pets and can get away with keeping money from a disability eldery woman or not at least replacing the broken unit who just wants to save her dog. Now I'm left with no emergency vet.

Do not go here unless you are in serious crisis... Emergencies Only. With triage protocol, you will be put to the back of the line for every pet that walks through the door in worse condition than yours. As with our family, we were not a priority. The tech took my dog to the back after a two hour wait. They will do nothing in front of you. We arrived at 10am and didn't get discharged until after 9pm. Does that sound like a good quality day to you? We asked for dog water twice, nothing came. My dog drank nothing all day, he wasnt given subcutaneous fluids until 9pm. And no meds were given for his infection. kept in a cage from noon until 9pm, nervous as hell. We found scabs, bloody track marks on his belly at home, these people were in such a hurry to give an ultrasound, but they didn't have the decency to clean the blood off, and who knows whose blood it was? Sickening, his abdomen was so hot and inflamed. We made a huge mistake coming here because his condition got much worse, not better, they gave no immediate attention or acute care, and his infection was getting way ahead of him. If it were me i would have given an IV of meds the minute i had the pet in custody. and he would have started recovery under their care, and been monitored. No. They sent him home with no appetite, distressed and weak, with 65 pills and tablets to eat , so we could play Doctor at home. The experience here caused major setbacks and set us up for failure. He seized on a Sat. night, so this was the only option we had. This place is wildly understaffed and you're lucky if you get a friendly staff, they are hit or miss. One doctor, a tall guy, Dr. K , had no regard, no empathy, stoic, i really could not believe his tag said 'medical director'. He gave me no confidence at all he knew what he was doing. NONE. The tech had to redirect this guy when he was about to stick my dog with the wrong needle. How comfortable would you be with the wrong syringe going in your arm? Thank God for capable Technicians. One of the desk girls was lovely, she sat on the left, brown hair, very empathic and efficient. And there was an aloof blonde that sat on the right, she didn't even make eye contact and she barely spoke to any patients more than a word or two. Like a robot. I wasted about 1000 dollars and my dog's time and trust, believing i was serving his best interest getting emer. care, but it was a fatal mistake. My error in judgment. There's a list of local vets below. These were recommended to me. please use your own discretion and keep your pet as first priority. Good luck, and better luck to your family, and God bless your fur baby! recommended to me: Dunes vet clinic River oaks animal hospital, Dr. meg The Ark animal hospital, Dr andrews Pawleys island, Dr stone
