Dr Stein saw my dog during Covid very uncomfortable situation at the time we decided not to go forward with treatment.. 4 years later my Maltese relapsed and I decided to go forward with acupuncture for my dog I scheduled an appointment 2 months out’the earliert I could get. They took a deposit and scheduled 8 sessions for acupuncture treatment.. I arranged my schedule to accommodate all of them. 2 days before my appointment they decided to cancel and not provide the much needed treatment for my litttle Sammy . This Vet is extremely rude and irresponsible. He does not care about his clients and evidently is vindictive. How could he let my did suffer for 2 months and then refuse to treat him Do not take your pet there he is a mean nasty person's and does not deserve to care for your precious pet..

Welcome to Amherst Small Animal Hospital
Welcome to Amherst Small Animal Hospital, a Pet Hospital located at 2217 Kensington Ave, Buffalo, NY 14226, USA. Serving the local community of Buffalo and surrounding areas, Amherst Small Animal Hospital aims to provide veterinary care for your beloved animal companions. As a Pet Hospital, they offer a range of services to address the health and wellness needs of your pets.
Based on the limited reviews available, it is challenging to form a comprehensive picture of the environment at Amherst Small Animal Hospital. One reviewer describes the "wonderful staff," suggesting a positive and welcoming atmosphere created by the team. This indicates a focus on providing a pleasant experience for pet owners during their visits. However, another review paints a starkly contrasting picture, describing an interaction with a specific veterinarian as "extremely rude and irresponsible." This suggests that while some aspects of the clinic environment, particularly the staff, may be perceived positively, individual experiences can vary significantly. Further information would be needed to provide a more balanced and detailed description of the overall clinic environment.
The limited information available makes it difficult to create a comprehensive list of services offered at Amherst Small Animal Hospital. However, based on the category of "Pet Hospital" and the context of the reviews, we can infer some of the services they likely provide:
- General Veterinary Care: This would typically include routine check-ups, vaccinations, parasite prevention (flea, tick, heartworm), and general health advice for dogs and cats.
- Puppy Care: The positive review from a new puppy owner suggests that the hospital offers services specifically tailored to young animals, which might include initial vaccinations, deworming, microchipping, and guidance on puppy development and training.
- Acupuncture: One of the reviews specifically mentions acupuncture treatment for a dog. This indicates that Amherst Small Animal Hospital may offer alternative or complementary therapies like acupuncture as part of their services.
- Diagnostic Services: To diagnose illnesses and plan treatments, the hospital likely offers various diagnostic tools, which could include laboratory services (blood tests, etc.) and imaging (X-rays, although not explicitly mentioned).
- Medical Treatment: The hospital would provide medical care for various illnesses and injuries in pets, including prescribing medications and providing supportive care.
- Surgical Services: While not explicitly mentioned, most small animal hospitals offer some level of surgical services, ranging from routine procedures to more complex surgeries, depending on the veterinarians' expertise and the facility's capabilities.
The available reviews offer contrasting perspectives on the features of Amherst Small Animal Hospital:
- Wonderful and Helpful Staff: One review explicitly praises the "wonderful staff" for their kindness and expertise. This suggests that a significant portion of the team is dedicated to providing excellent customer service and knowledgeable care. The reviewer felt a strong connection to the practice after only two visits, highlighting the positive impact of the staff's interactions.
- Potential Expertise in Specific Treatments: The mention of acupuncture services indicates a potential specialization or offering of alternative therapies that may appeal to pet owners seeking holistic treatment options for their animals.
- Concerns Regarding Professionalism and Responsibility: The negative review raises serious concerns about the professionalism and responsibility of at least one veterinarian at the hospital. The allegations of rudeness, irresponsibility, and the seemingly arbitrary cancellation of a pre-scheduled and pre-paid treatment after a two-month wait are significant points of concern for potential clients. This review also suggests a lack of empathy and potential vindictiveness.
- Mixed Experiences: The stark contrast between the two reviews highlights the possibility of varied experiences at Amherst Small Animal Hospital, potentially depending on the specific veterinarian or situation involved.
The provided information does not contain any details about specific promotional offers, discounts for new clients, or special service packages at Amherst Small Animal Hospital. To inquire about any current promotions or the cost of specific services, it is recommended to contact the hospital directly via phone at (716) 839-1100 or mobile phone at +1 716-839-1100.
In conclusion, Amherst Small Animal Hospital in Buffalo, NY, is a Pet Hospital that appears to have a dedicated and kind support staff, as highlighted by one positive review from a new puppy owner. This suggests a welcoming environment and expert care, particularly for new pet parents. However, a significant concern is raised by another review detailing a severely negative experience with a specific veterinarian, alleging rudeness, irresponsibility, and a distressing cancellation of essential treatment. This stark contrast in customer experiences makes it challenging to provide an unequivocally positive introduction. Potential clients should be aware of these differing perspectives and may wish to seek further information or clarification directly from the hospital regarding their policies, staff qualifications, and approach to patient care. While the hospital may offer valuable services like acupuncture and general veterinary care, the serious allegations in the negative review warrant careful consideration by prospective pet owners in the Buffalo area.

Jul 23, 2024 · Cheryl MortellaroWonderful staff. So happy we were referred here with our new puppy. Could not be happier or more grateful for their kindness and expertise. It feels like we have come here forever after just 2 visits.
Nov 30, 2024 · Todd RunionsI am so happy with ASAH! Dr. Stein and his staff are extremely knowledgeable and kind. I am a nurse practitioner and I am very picky about my dogs care. I have been to 4 different veterinary clinics in both Amherst and the southtowns trying to find a good fit. I have found it! My dog, Hazel, got an ovary sparing spay and also her umbilical hernia fixed. I was able to see the OR which is immaculate. The surgery went very well and Hazel showed no signs of pain. She healed up very nicely. I will be transferring her care and my cats care to Dr. Stein. In my years as an animal lover I have never been able to find a vet who was consistent and took their time with me and my animals…rest assured I have found this in ASAH!
Nov 03, 2023 · Julie SullivanWhile the secretary was very nice and helpful, was slightly disappointed that they were not accepting new clients.
Jan 26, 2025 · Rebecca HamiltonCalm and extremely knowledgeable. A small tight knit team that deals with every area of your pet care efficiently, yet personably. Dr Stein is the only vet so he knows all about your pets, unlike our previous large practice where we never saw the same vet twice. His veterinary knowledge is immense but he explains everything so that you understand all about your pet’s health. It’s hard to explain how you get the feeling that they all love animals there.
