Welcome to Acton Veterinary Clinic

Acton Veterinary Clinic, located at 470 Youngs Ridge Rd, Acton, ME 04001, USA, stands as a cherished "Pet Hospital" serving the Acton community and over a dozen surrounding areas since 2008. This clinic has garnered a strong reputation for delivering high-quality and deeply compassionate veterinary care specifically for dogs and cats. Their core philosophy is rooted in treating every pet with the same level of care and affection they would extend to their own beloved companions, a sentiment that resonates powerfully with their clientele.

The environment at Acton Veterinary Clinic is notably unique and contributes significantly to its welcoming atmosphere. The clinic is set within a picturesque 1814 farmhouse, which helps create a less clinical and more comfortable setting for both pets and their owners. This distinctive location, combined with the team's friendly and approachable demeanor, helps to alleviate the anxiety often associated with veterinary visits. Clients consistently describe the space as clean and in good condition, reflecting a commitment to maintaining a professional and hygienic environment for animal care. The design likely allows for pets to feel more at ease, potentially offering spaces where they can "freely explore the room" during exams, as one client noted, indicating a flexible and pet-friendly approach to consultations. The staff's professionalism, blended with their friendly and even "funny" personalities, creates a positive and reassuring experience for everyone involved.

Acton Veterinary Clinic offers a comprehensive range of veterinary services, addressing the diverse health needs of dogs and cats. Their services are designed to provide complete healthcare, from preventative measures to advanced diagnostics and surgical interventions:

  • Wellness and Preventative Care: Recognizing the shorter lifespan of pets, the clinic strongly emphasizes annual physical examinations. These thorough check-ups are crucial for early detection and prevention of serious health problems. Services include tailored vaccination protocols, comprehensive parasite control (for fleas, ticks, and heartworm), and individualized dietary counseling to support optimal growth, weight maintenance, and overall performance throughout a pet's life stages.
  • Diagnostic and Therapeutic Services: The hospital is well-equipped to provide essential diagnostic and therapeutic services. This includes an in-house laboratory capable of performing quick analyses such as serum chemistry, hematology, serology, urinalysis, and parasite testing. They also utilize commercial veterinary laboratories for more specialized diagnostics and consultations. Their on-site, modern X-ray equipment (radiology services) provides high-quality radiographs, aiding in the quick diagnosis of many disorders. For more complicated internal medicine cases, they offer in-house ultrasounds and endoscopic procedures facilitated by a traveling internal medicine specialist. Electrocardiography (ECG) services are also provided on-site, along with consultations with cardiology specialists when needed.
  • Surgical Services: The clinic boasts a state-of-the-art surgical suite, enabling the performance of a wide variety of surgical procedures. They utilize the safest available anesthetics, particularly for older or high-risk patients, with modern equipment monitoring vital signs during all anesthetic procedures.
  • Dentistry: Their dental services are comprehensive, including teeth cleaning and polishing, tooth extractions, and minor oral surgery.
  • Permanent Identification: They offer AVID microchip identification, a crucial service to help reunite lost pets with their owners.
  • Pharmacy: The clinic maintains a complete inventory of pharmaceuticals, vitamins, shampoos, flea and tick control products, and heartworm preventatives. They also stock a full line of prescription diets. Additionally, medication can be compounded into more pet-acceptable forms through their online compounding pharmacy for enhanced compliance.
  • Individualized Flea Control Programs: They develop customized programs for each pet's specific needs and environmental situation, providing advice on controlling fleas in the house, yard, and on the pet.
  • Behavioral Counseling: They offer advice regarding the correction of common behavioral problems such as excessive barking, chewing, spraying, scratching, digging, house soiling, and aggression, helping to foster a harmonious relationship between pets and their families.
  • Emergency Care: While they do not provide 24/7 emergency care on-site, clients can call their main telephone number for instructions for after-hour emergencies, or they are directed to larger referral hospitals like Port City Veterinary Referral Hospital in Newington, NH, or Maine Veterinary Referral Center in Scarborough, ME, ensuring continuity of care.

My family went here when I was growing up, and I take my now my own family's pets here. The staff is different but they are just as friendly, accomodating, knowledgeable and helpful. One of our dogs can be a bit of a handful when we bring him in but they always show a lot of patience and good humour about his shenanigans!

My pets have been seeing Jess for upwards of 10 years now when we had to put down our beloved Bones.... not to brag but pretty sure he was one of their favorite patients ever! they could not have been more empathetic caring and loving. I have recommended many friends to the clinic all have been extremely happy I would never bring my pets to anybody but Jess Jack BJ and the crew. Thank you for all you've ever done for us we sincerely appreciate it. See you soon
