I have been bringing my pets to Academy West for many years. Everyone is always caring, knowledgeable and very helpful. The prices have always been very reasonable and way more affordable then other hospitals. They saved my dogs life, and I cant stress that enough. When most places would have given up on him. It really infuriates and saddens me that people say such horrible things, that are absolutely absurd. Just because they didn't get there way. Would you act or say these things if it was a human medical facility? I would bet and say NO. The owners and staff at Academy West and EVERY animal hospital, shelter, rescue or animal saving facility , should be appreciated and treated with respect for all the good they continue to do. I see a lot of negative, selfish and one sided reviews from people that have never spent or given time to any animal facility. How many pets have you saved? Lets make all animals not just our own more important than our ridiculous PRIDE!!!

I do pet sitting/care. While my clients were out of town, I noticed one of their cats were in need of veterinary care for her ear. Academy West got her in right away. I was impressed with the Vet... he gave her a thorough examination... he didn't JUST look at her troubled ear. He ran a test under a microscope of the bacteria in her ear and diagnosed her within minutes. They put medicated eardrops in and sent us home with the prescription. She's on the mend and happy 🐱😸🥼🩺

I am adding to this review after the reply from the business. There are many one star reviews here that says a lot. Our main complaint is we had an account that had a $70 credit to it on the 6th of January see attached. My wife goes on the 16th of January to get a shot into clothes out the count and were told we're no longer welcome there and the account balance is now 0! We did not close out the account they told us the account is closed and we're no longer welcome there! If the account is closed then they owe us $70. I'm sure if it had a positive balance they wouldn't have put zero in the account! This is very unethical they basically stole $70 from us!!!I DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT USE THIS FACILITY!! AT SOME POINT YOU WILL GET LOUSY CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY WILL TRY TO RIP YOU OFF WITH HIGH PRICES! Our pet dog has been a patient at this place for over 11 years and we never had any issues and we are always told that we were like family. However at some point last year there was new owners that took over this veterinary service! We had one instance early last year where I pet almost died because they over prescribed medications for sedative for an x-ray. Recently my wife went in to get some medication because our dog was not eating. They charged us $137 for a small 30 ml bottle of Entyce. This same size bottle is only $65 at Walmart. So the vet charged us more than 100% in my eyes of what it should be so we felt like we were getting ripped off. My wife was there not thinking and the vet did not let her know she could get it elsewhere possibly cheaper! Our pet also goes to an oncologist so we ask them without letting them know how much we paid here their price was $115 for the same size but they also said they would be willing to give us a prescription to go elsewhere and it may be cheaper else where! When we did get the medication it came with the wrong size syringes and the big syringe that came with the med was really hard to read the markings and always got an air bubble in it. Try to explain this to the office manager but she refused to listen! They kept saying since we open the bottle we're responsible for the price. How the hell are we supposed to know if it's working right if we don't open it and use it? So we explain the situation to the lady at the counter who said the office manager was busy she took the med back to the office manager who came out tried to explain since we opened it they would not refund. I tried to explain to her what was going on with the syringes and the pricing she finally said Go ahead and give him the money. The lady at the desk came out with a $70 check which is only half. I explain that to the office manager so she said well you're going to get a $70 credit on your account. This was unacceptable as I felt our money was being held hostage and I wanted it put back on our card and she refused and the office people explained they didn't have that capability!! Can you believe in this day and age they have the ability to take your money but not give it back!! We left a note on a Monday for the owner to contact us and no reply after almost 48 hours. So then we wrote a long two page letter explaining the circumstances to the owner hoping for a reply! No reply whatsoever except we are now banned from using the facility after my wife called to get an appointment to get a cyto point shot for my pet and they refuse service to us!! Now after my wife goes back to talk to them they said our account is zero and I have documentation that we have a $70 credit and they went into their computer and changed it to zero after they gave me a printout that says our account as a credit of $70 LONG STORY SHORT IF YOU VALUE THE HEALTH OF YOUR PET DO NOT GO TO THIS FACILITY DO NOT TRUST THE OWNERS OR THE VETS OR THE OFFICE MANAGER AS THEY WILL TWIST THE STORY AND TELL LIES!

All 3 of our dogs have been patients at this animal hospital. Each time we have been here, (due to other vets being completed booked) none of our dogs problems have been diagnosed or properly treated. Last Wednesday, we brought our very sick dog in. He wasn’t eating, he was lethargic, vomiting, diarrhea, etc. After examining him and doing labs (only blood work initially, urine test was going to be done later on that day), they decided to keep him for a few hours to monitor him, give him IV fluids, and complete further labs (urine test). Before my significant other left, he asked the vet and the vet tech if our boy was going to be ok. Instead of saying they don’t know, they reassured my boyfriend that he was going to be ok. A few hours later, Academy West called me to let me know when to pick up my dog. I asked for an update, to which the receptionist told me that he was eating, and acting normal. I didn’t question it and thanked the staff for taking such good care of him. When I went to pick him up at the designated time, the vet tech took me back and went over how to administer fluid IVs for him, provided 3 different medications, and gave me the dog food he was supposedly eating. I paid the $600+ bill, and once again thanked them for everything they did for my boy. Unfortunately; when we got home, I noticed he was not better at all. He refused to eat anything the remainder of the night into the next day, and he had no energy to the point he was sitting in his own pee because he didn’t have the energy to stand up. My boyfriend and I tried calling numerous emergency vets across the valley, to which all of them said they were dealing with traumas, and it would be at least an 8 hour wait before he could be seen. The next morning, I called Academy West frantic about how bad my dog was doing. The receptionist said the soonest they could see him was Friday (which would be a day later). I asked if there was anything at all they could do to see him sooner, to which she said “no” they were booked. I agreed to make him an appt for Friday, and continued trying to call other vets. No one was available to take him in. A few hours later, Academy West called me. It was the vet tech doing a follow up. I explained to her how poorly my dog was doing, to which she said that’s not good at all and that she could get me in that afternoon (Thursday). I said absolutely, and brought my boy in. When we got there, I had to carry him in because he couldn’t walk. The receptionist gave me an attitude when I walked in holding him, and said it would be a minute until she helped me, which I understood. While she checked me in, I was still holding my 60 lb+ dog, and she didn’t offer to help grab some sort of transport to get him to the back room. Once in the room, the vet came in and went over all of the different things that could be wrong with him; one being cancer, another being a tumor, etc. I was hysterical and asked what the results were from yesterday (Wednesday). The vet said their was nothing abnormal with the bloodwork that was done. So I asked him about the urine test. The vet said he changed his mind (the day prior) and decided not to do a urine test because my dog seemed fine. I again told the vet all of my dogs symptoms, including how he’s lost significant weight over the past few months, which my boyfriend also explained to them the day prior (Wednesday). The vet immediately asked the vet tech to go get a blood sugar monitor. When they tested his levels; it stated “HI” as it was too high to even read. The vet immediately informed me my dog was in Diabetic ketoacidosis and needed to go to the hospital right away. The vet tech helped load my dog in the car, and that was the last day I heard from the vet and the day my boy passed away at Blue Pearl Emergency. Academy West has not reached out at all to follow up. I by no means think this is anyone’s fault. I hope this can be a lesson that no matter how busy clinics may be dealing with infinite patients a day, that a little due diligence could help save a pet instead of this happening again.

We recently took our small dogs to get groomed here, which we have done for years now. However this time one of our dogs was cut and infected with filthy clippers. He got groomed on Saturday, and by Monday his infection grew to the size you see in the photos I’ve attached. It was raw and painful and bloody, I could barely touch him with a wet paper towel without him screaming in pain. I called the front desk to complain, and she told us to come in and provided antibiotics. No apology. The vet claimed it was “just a rash” when it’s obviously a nasty infection that occurred from their grooming establishment. This entire situation is unacceptable and negligent. To come here for years and have this occur is very disappointing. The entire place went downhill since Dr James Kimmel left- he moved to Quail Crossing Animal hospital by the way. Don’t get your dogs groomed here if you want them to get infections and careless treatment. **** edited on 7/31 The same day we brought our dog to get groomed on 07/15, he also had a teeth cleaning. Seems like he's had a tooth infection festering the last two weeks since his visit with Academy West and his face has now blown up in swelling. We are currently taking him to another veterinarian to be treated.
