This dog park shows promise, but has room for enhancement. Consider replacing natural grass with artificial turf to reduce dirt and maintenance. Removing the bench near the tree would expand play area. Also, ensure gallery photos accurately represent this park, as some images appear to be from other locations. Services Offered

The Washington Park - Small Dog Run provides essential services tailored to facilitate a safe and enjoyable off-leash experience for smaller dogs and their owners. As a public dog park managed by the City of Miami Beach, its services focus on core amenities and responsible pet ownership.

  • Fenced Off-Leash Area: The primary service is a securely fenced enclosure designed specifically for small dogs, allowing them to play freely without a leash under supervision. This dedicated space helps prevent interactions with larger, potentially overwhelming dogs.

  • Waste Stations: To promote cleanliness and hygiene, the park is equipped with dog waste bag dispensers and designated trash receptacles. This encourages owners to promptly clean up after their pets, maintaining a pleasant environment for all users.

  • Water Fountain: A water fountain is typically available within the park, providing fresh drinking water for dogs (and sometimes for humans as well), ensuring pets stay hydrated, especially during Florida's warm weather.

  • Seating Areas: Benches are usually provided within the dog run, offering comfortable spots for owners to sit, relax, and supervise their dogs during playtime.

  • Shaded Spots: While possibly limited, reviews suggest there can be some natural shade from trees within or adjacent to the small dog run, offering a respite from the direct sun.

  • Free Entry: As a public park, there is no entry fee, making it an accessible recreational option for all local dog owners.

These basic yet crucial services ensure that the Washington Park - Small Dog Run remains a functional and welcoming space for Miami Beach's small dog community.

Features / Highlights

The Washington Park - Small Dog Run may be compact, but it boasts several features and highlights that make it a notable spot for smaller dog owners in Miami Beach. These attributes contribute to its appeal as a convenient and enjoyable urban dog park.

  • Dedicated Small Dog Area: A significant highlight is its specific designation as a "Small Dog Run." This is invaluable for owners of smaller breeds, ensuring their pets can play safely and comfortably with dogs of similar size, reducing the risk of accidental injury or intimidation by larger dogs.

  • Central Miami Beach Location: Its address on Collins Avenue in South Beach means it's incredibly convenient for thousands of local residents. The ability to walk to a dog park from numerous condos and apartments in the area is a major advantage, fitting seamlessly into the urban lifestyle.

  • Consistent Cleanliness (Generally): User reviews often commend the park for being "pretty clean." Regular maintenance helps ensure a pleasant environment for both dogs and their human companions, a crucial factor for urban green spaces.

  • Usually Not Too Busy: Compared to larger, more popular dog parks, the "Small Dog Run" often experiences less heavy traffic, as noted by users. This can lead to a more relaxed and less chaotic play environment, which is particularly beneficial for smaller or shyer dogs.

  • Double-Gated Entrance: For enhanced safety, public dog parks like this typically feature double-gated entrances, providing a secure vestibule where owners can safely unleash or re-leash their dogs before entering or exiting the main play area.

  • Proximity to Washington Park Amenities: While the dog run itself is specific, its location within the larger Washington Park means that other park amenities might be nearby or accessible for humans, such as additional walking paths or general green space.

These features collectively make the Washington Park - Small Dog Run a valued local resource, providing a specialized and convenient space for Miami Beach's petite canine residents.

However, the "special offers" from a municipal park often come in the form of community benefits and the city's commitment to maintaining and improving public spaces. These can include:

  • Free Access: The most significant "offer" is the provision of a free, dedicated off-leash area for dogs, reducing the financial barrier for pet owners to provide their dogs with necessary exercise and socialization.

  • City-Organized Events: Occasionally, the City of Miami Beach Parks and Recreation Department might host free or low-cost community events, workshops on pet ownership, or dog-related festivals in various parks, including or near Washington Park. These events are designed to engage the community and enhance the pet-owning experience.

  • Ongoing Maintenance & Upgrades: While not a direct "promotion," the city's continuous efforts to maintain cleanliness, provide waste bags, and ensure amenities like water fountains are functional represent an ongoing investment in the park's quality, offering a consistently good experience to users.

  • Information Resources: The City's Parks and Recreation department provides extensive information online and via phone regarding dog park rules, responsible pet ownership, and local pet licensing, acting as a valuable resource for the community.

Nice little park to let the dogs run, it's usually pretty clean and not too busy! Parking on the street can be a little bad sometimes, depending on the hour.

It's nice that the community has this separate dog park for big dogs. We have seen some big fellas going in and out of here that could literally trample smaller dogs at the park down the street. This dog run has a much larger fence to keep the big dogs in. I would recommend anyone with a big dog to come use this dog park instead of the others in the area. You can let your big dog go loose and let him have a good time!

This is a fantastic green space in Miami Beach for large dogs. There is ample room for your large doggo to run around in. The park has tree cover and a water feature to keep your dog cool on those hot Miami Beach days. Concrete trails allow for humans to walk around and not step in an accident. Unfortunately there are no table top park benches, but it does have some benches along the concrete path. With parking there is a city parking lot right next to it, along with street parking where available. This is our new dog park go to!

This is the best Off-Leash dog park we've been to! Been coming for 2 years now with our little Doxie! It's very clean, most owners are civil. And plentyyyy of dogs for your doggo to play with! We recently moved to El Monte, about 20 mins away, and we'll still make the trip for this park!
