Welcome to Uptown Dog Park
For dog owners and families residing in the vibrant city of Long Beach, California, finding a perfect spot that genuinely caters to both their beloved canine companions and their human loved ones is a significant advantage. Uptown Dog Park consistently emerges as a highly cherished destination, offering a comprehensive recreational experience that goes beyond a typical off-leash area. It's a testament to thoughtful urban planning, providing a harmonious blend of dedicated space for dogs to play freely and a wide array of amenities for the entire family to enjoy. This park isn't just a place for dogs to stretch their legs; it's a dynamic community hub where tails wag, children laugh, and residents can embrace the Southern California outdoor lifestyle.
One of the most striking aspects of Uptown Dog Park, as highlighted by its loyal visitors, is that it's "bigger than it looks." This pleasant surprise speaks to the ample room available for dogs to truly run, socialize, and burn off energy, even during busier times. What further elevates its appeal is its integration within a larger park setting, which boasts a "nice duck pond and playground for kids." This unique combination means that while your furry friend is having the time of their life, other family members can engage in different activities, making it an ideal choice for a diverse household outing. The thoughtful inclusion of family-friendly features sets Uptown Dog Park apart from many single-purpose dog parks in the region.
While the large dog side could benefit from additional seating, as noted by a regular visitor, the park consistently provides essential amenities such as stocked waste bags and water dishes on both the large and small dog sides. This attention to detail, along with generally clean facilities including "clean bathrooms," contributes significantly to a positive user experience. The park's commitment to creating a well-rounded recreational space solidifies its reputation as a beloved asset for the Long Beach community.
Uptown Dog Park is strategically located at 4600 Long Beach Blvd, Long Beach, CA 90805, USA. This address places it conveniently within the northern part of Long Beach, making it easily accessible for residents of Uptown Long Beach and surrounding neighborhoods. Its position on a major thoroughfare like Long Beach Boulevard ensures straightforward access from various parts of the city and beyond.
The park’s accessibility is a notable advantage for visitors. It is situated on the west side of Scherer Park, a well-known and established public park, which often means good road infrastructure and clear signage. Reviews confirm that there is a "nearby parking lot" in addition to street parking, simplifying the arrival process for dog owners. While some sources mention an entrance fee or pass card needed to access the facility if you're coming in with your car for certain areas of Long Beach parks, direct information for Uptown Dog Park itself specifically states it is "near picnic areas and a parking lot for easy access." Official city information for Uptown Dog Park hours is "Dawn to Dusk, every day."
The integration of the dog park within the larger Scherer Park complex also provides a convenient and pleasant setting. Visitors can easily transition from the dog park to other areas of Scherer Park, enhancing the overall recreational experience. Its location within a vibrant community ensures it's a bustling and active spot, especially during peak hours.
Uptown Dog Park offers a variety of services and amenities designed to create a comprehensive and enjoyable experience for dogs and their owners. These primarily focus on facilitating safe and comfortable off-leash play:
-
Dedicated Off-Leash Play Areas: The primary service is providing fenced, secure spaces where dogs can run, play, and socialize freely without leashes.
-
Separate Large and Small Dog Sections: The park features distinct areas to accommodate dogs of different sizes, ensuring a safer and more comfortable play environment for all. This separation helps prevent potential conflicts between very large and very small dogs.
-
Water Dishes/Fountains: Water is available on both the large and small dog sides, crucial for keeping active dogs hydrated, especially in California's climate.
-
Waste Bags (Stocked): Reviews indicate that bags are "always stocked," promoting responsible pet ownership and park cleanliness.
-
Waste Disposal Stations: Designated trash cans are available for convenient and hygienic disposal of pet waste.
-
Benches and Seating: Seating is provided, particularly on the small dog side, allowing owners to relax and supervise their pets. While limited on the large dog side, its presence is a valued amenity.
-
Shade Areas: Some information suggests there are trees providing shade for dog owners, a welcome feature on sunny days.
-
Toy Box: One source mentions a "toy box filled with toys that people donated and even those that were forgotten," adding an extra element of fun and convenience for visitors who might forget their own.
-
Clean Restrooms (Adjacent): The presence of "clean bathrooms" within the larger park complex is a significant convenience for human visitors.
Uptown Dog Park is distinguished by several key features and highlights that make it a local favorite:
-
Larger Than It Looks: Despite initial impressions, the park provides ample space for dogs to run, offering a great area for exercise and play.
-
Integrated Family Amenities: Its most significant highlight is the presence of a "nice duck pond and playground for kids" within the same park complex. This makes it an ideal destination for families with both dogs and children, allowing for diverse recreational activities in one convenient location.
-
Separate Play Areas: The clearly defined sections for large and small dogs are highly appreciated, ensuring a safer and more harmonious environment for all canine visitors.
-
Well-Stocked Supplies: The consistent availability of waste bags and water dishes on both sides demonstrates good maintenance and responsiveness to user needs.
-
Community Atmosphere: The park attracts regular visitors, suggesting a friendly and welcoming environment where dog owners can socialize and their dogs can interact with familiar playmates.
-
Accessibility: Its location on Long Beach Boulevard and proximity to parking make it easy to access for many residents.
-
Clean Facilities: The mention of "clean bathrooms" enhances the overall visitor experience for human companions.
As a public park operated by the City of Long Beach, Uptown Dog Park does not typically offer commercial "promotions" or "special offers" in the way a private business would. The primary "promotion" it provides is its consistent availability as a free and accessible public amenity for the community.
However, the inherent value and "offer" of Uptown Dog Park to the local community are:
-
Free Access: The park is open to the public without an entrance fee (though specific parking regulations or fees for the broader Scherer Park complex should always be noted, if applicable, though reviews indicate general ease of parking for the dog park). This makes it an equitable and readily available resource for all Long Beach dog owners.
-
Valuable Community Asset: It serves as a vital resource for dog socialization and exercise, contributing to the well-being of pets and fostering responsible pet ownership within the community.
-
Multipurpose Recreational Hub: The combination of dog park, playground, and duck pond offers a comprehensive recreational experience at no cost, appealing to diverse family needs.

May 24, 2025 · Britney PageNo grass but lots of room for a big dog to run. No bench on the big dog side... Would be nice. But there is a bench on the little dog side. Bags are always stocked and there is a water dish on both sides. Good park, we go regularly.
Oct 23, 2024 · Brittany ChildersI like this dog park. There is almost always someone for our dog to play with. I’ve taken him to other local parks and there is no one. Everyone is always nice so far. There are plenty of benches and chairs. It’s shady and big. There are a couple balls and toys just lying around.
Oct 10, 2022 · L RoFirst time at this park and I gotta say I loved it! I went for the dog park but realized there's also a whole regular park there with a pond and these cute tiny bridges surrounded by rocks and flowing water. I took my dog for a walk around the park and after she emptied her bladder, I took her to the dog park. They have two sides, one for small dogs and the other for big dogs. They offer water fountains and a few toys for the dogs. I will definitely be coming back. I did give it 4 stars because there's a few questionable people walking around and also some dogs without leashes at the actual park. Some lady had her dog lose and the dog went and attacked another aggressive dog. The owner had to physically pick up her dog and go to her car. That could have turned into a very bad situation very fast. Not cool. If you know your dog is aggressive, keep it on a leash!
Jun 17, 2020 · Yesenia QuinteroI didn't experience the dog park I went to walk a couple of laps around this park! This park in general is very big, has a big play ground and a pond, basketball courts, walking and bike area.
