What a great and clean dog park! Love how it’s divided into two sections: small dogs (under 25lbs) and all dogs. Also has a very secure entrance gate with an additional wire gate in the small dog section. My pup had a blast playing here with all the other cute doggies. Plenty of space to run around and rest. They had a water bowl that had continuous flow of new water for dogs to drink from, and plenty of benches to sit and dog watch. Loved how all the owners were attentive and cleaned up after their dog immediately. Definitely will be back over the weekends with my pup!

The Tompkins Square Dog Run offers a comprehensive set of services designed to ensure a safe, clean, and enjoyable experience for all its canine and human visitors.
Dual Off-Leash Play Sections: A standout service is the thoughtful division of the park into two distinct areas: one specifically for small dogs (under 25 lbs) and another for all dogs. This segregation ensures a safer and more comfortable play environment for pups of varying sizes and energy levels.
Secure Entrance Gates: Each section features a highly secure double-gating system at the entrance, preventing accidental escapes and providing peace of mind for owners.
Continuous Flow Water Bowls: The park provides water stations with bowls that feature a continuous flow of fresh water, ensuring dogs stay hydrated during their active play sessions. This hygienic system is a major plus for attentive owners.
Ample Seating for Owners: Numerous benches are strategically placed throughout the dog run, offering plenty of comfortable spots for owners to sit, relax, supervise their dogs, and socialize with other pet parents.
Dog Waste Bag Dispensers: To maintain the park's exceptional cleanliness, complimentary dog waste bags are provided, ensuring owners can easily clean up after their pets and contribute to a tidy environment.
Dedicated Waste Bins: Alongside the bag dispensers, sufficient waste bins are available for convenient and proper disposal of dog waste, reinforcing the park's commitment to hygiene.
The Tompkins Square Dog Run boasts several key features and highlights that contribute to its status as a premier dog park in New York City:
Exceptional Cleanliness: Consistently praised by visitors, the park maintains a high standard of cleanliness, thanks to diligent upkeep and responsible pet owners. This makes for a much more pleasant experience for everyone.
Thoughtful Design for All Dogs: The clear division into separate large and small dog areas is a significant highlight, demonstrating a thoughtful approach to canine safety and comfort. This allows smaller, more timid dogs to play freely without intimidation, while larger dogs have ample space.
Secure Environment: The double-gated entry system and secure fencing ensure that dogs remain safely within the designated play areas, providing owners with peace of mind.
Comfortable Surfaces: Reviews mention "turf grass" in the small dog section, which is often preferred over dirt or gravel for its cleanliness and comfort. The park provides ample space on these surfaces for dogs to "run around and rest."
Attentive Community: The park benefits from a community of responsible and attentive owners who are quick to clean up after their dogs and ensure a positive play environment for all. This fosters a friendly and welcoming atmosphere.
Natural Shade from Trees: The presence of trees within or around the dog run provides welcome natural shade, a crucial amenity during sunny days, offering cool spots for dogs and owners alike.
As a public park amenity, Tompkins Square Dog Run does not typically offer commercial "promotions or special offers" in the traditional retail sense. Its primary "promotion" is the consistent provision of a high-quality, free-to-access recreational space for dogs and their owners.
However, the intrinsic value it provides to New York locals comes in the form of:
Free, High-Quality Exercise and Socialization: The most significant benefit is the daily availability of a clean, secure, and dedicated area for dogs to get essential physical activity and crucial social interaction without any cost to the owner. This is invaluable in a city where space is at a premium.
Indirect benefits or community-driven "promotions" might include:
Community Events & Gatherings: Tompkins Square Park often hosts various community events throughout the year, some of which may be dog-friendly or of interest to pet owners. While not directly organized by the dog run, these events enhance the overall park experience for locals.
Local Pet Business Proximity: Being in the East Village, the dog run is surrounded by numerous pet-friendly businesses, including pet supply stores, groomers, and cafes, which might periodically offer their own independent promotions to local dog owners.

Apr 26, 2025 · Nicole KimLove this nice dog park! We go to the little park that has turf grass. Everyone is very friendly and the dogs that come here are very well behaved. Dog waste bags are provided in case you forget your own. Lots of benches to sit in and the tree provides nice shade.
Feb 05, 2024 · StegramediaAlways a blast at Tompkins Dog Run. Perfect place to take your pup for a good time in the east village. There is one for small dogs that has artificial turf as well as a larger one with dirt. Both are usually booming with activity and tennis balls galore. Owners and dogs always enjoying themselves. Highly recommend going. Never a dull time!
