Nice dog park, offering artificial grass. We love taking our dog on rainy days to play catch and interact with all the other pups. It’s got benches and water and a little bit of shade for the dogs, which is nice on sweltering days. Just wish it were a little bigger!

Welcome to The Mile Dog Park
For dog owners navigating the bustling urban landscape of Tysons, Virginia, finding a dedicated and comfortable space for their canine companions to truly stretch their legs and socialize is a welcome relief. The Mile Dog Park emerges as a notable solution, offering a thoughtfully designed off-leash area where pups can play freely and connect with other dogs, even on less-than-ideal weather days. Located within the modern development of The Mile, this park provides a convenient and essential recreational outlet for the local pet community.
The Mile Dog Park is often praised for its practical features that cater to both dogs and their human companions. A significant highlight, particularly noted by its visitors, is the use of artificial grass. This feature makes the park a favored spot on "rainy days" as it largely eliminates the muddy mess typically associated with natural grass parks. This commitment to cleanliness and usability, even in challenging weather, sets it apart and makes it a reliable choice for consistent exercise and play.
While some visitors express a wish for a larger space, the park's existing design thoughtfully incorporates benches for owners to relax and a degree of shade from trees, providing welcome relief during "sweltering days." The community that frequents The Mile Dog Park is also often described as "kind people and friendly dogs," contributing to a pleasant and welcoming atmosphere. This vibrant social aspect, combined with its unique features, solidifies The Mile Dog Park's role as a valuable urban oasis for pups in Tysons.
The Mile Dog Park is situated in the dynamic area of Tysons, VA 22102, USA. While a precise street address for the park itself isn't always widely publicized as a standalone entity, it is known to be part of "The Mile" development, which encompasses residential and commercial spaces. Specifically, it's located off of Westbranch Drive and Westpark Drive, integrated into this modern urban landscape. This strategic placement makes it highly accessible for residents of the surrounding luxury apartments and businesses within Tysons.
Accessibility is a key advantage for The Mile Dog Park. Being within a planned development often means good pedestrian access and connections to local street grids. For those driving, street parking is typically available in the vicinity, and being part of a larger complex like "The Mile" can imply convenient parking options for residents and visitors alike. Its location in Tysons, a rapidly developing urban center, means it's easily reachable for a significant portion of the Northern Virginia dog-owning population, offering a practical and convenient solution for dog exercise in a dense urban environment.
The Mile Dog Park, as a dedicated public recreational space for dogs, offers fundamental amenities that facilitate a positive off-leash experience. While it doesn't provide "services" in a commercial sense (like grooming or training), its design and provisions cater to the essential needs of a dog park. These typically include:
Fenced-In Off-Leash Area: The core offering is a secure, fenced enclosure where dogs can run, play, and interact freely without the constraint of a leash. This ensures a safe environment for off-leash socialization and exercise.
Artificial Grass Surface: A standout feature, the park utilizes artificial grass. This offers a clean and mud-free surface, making it ideal for use even on "rainy days" and ensuring dogs don't track dirt into cars or homes. It also contributes to consistent usability regardless of weather conditions.
Water Access with Bowls (though functionality may vary): The park is equipped with water amenities, including water bowls and, at times, a water fountain for both dogs and humans. While functionality issues have been noted by some visitors, the intent is to provide convenient hydration for pets during their play.
Benches and Seating: For the comfort of human companions, the park provides benches. These allow owners to sit, relax, and supervise their dogs, or socialize with other members of the dog-owning community.
Shade Elements: There is "a little bit of shade for the dogs" provided by trees. As these newly planted sapling trees grow, the amount of shade will increase, offering more respite on "sweltering days."
Waste Disposal Stations: The park includes doggy bag and waste disposal stations, encouraging responsible pet ownership and contributing to the overall cleanliness of the area.
Community-Shared Toys: Visitors often find "balls and other kind of toys left around from previous guests," fostering a communal spirit and providing additional entertainment for the dogs.
The Mile Dog Park in Tysons stands out with several key features and highlights that enhance the experience for local dog owners:
Artificial Grass Surface: This is arguably the most distinctive and praised feature. It means no mud, even after rain, making it a perfect spot for year-round play. This keeps dogs cleaner and prevents muddy paws from tracking into vehicles or homes, a significant convenience for owners.
Year-Round Playability: Due to the artificial turf, the park remains usable and clean regardless of weather conditions, allowing for consistent exercise and socialization opportunities for dogs when other natural grass parks might be too muddy.
Shade for Hot Days: The presence of benches and a "little bit of shade" from growing trees offers important relief during warm Virginia summers, allowing dogs and owners to cool down and rest comfortably.
Friendly Community: The park is noted for attracting "kind people and friendly dogs," contributing to a welcoming and positive social environment for both pets and their owners. This fosters a sense of community among local dog lovers.
Water Access (with consideration for functionality): While there might be occasional issues with the water fountain, the intent to provide on-site water access and the presence of bowls (sometimes provided by thoughtful visitors) is a valuable amenity for keeping dogs hydrated.
Convenient Waste Management: Readily available poop bags and waste disposal stations throughout the park make it easy for owners to clean up after their pets, maintaining a hygienic environment.
Integrated into Urban Development: Being part of "The Mile" development means it's easily accessible for residents of surrounding apartments and local businesses, offering a vital green space in a dense urban area.
As a publicly accessible dog park, likely maintained by Fairfax County or the associated private developer of "The Mile," The Mile Dog Park itself does not typically offer "promotions" or "special offers" in a commercial sense. Access to the park is generally free for all visitors.
However, being part of a larger mixed-use development like "The Mile" (which includes residential properties like Brentford at The Mile and Highgate at The Mile) means there could be indirect benefits or associated promotions:
Residential Amenity: For residents of the adjacent apartment complexes, the dog park is a direct amenity. While there are pet fees and pet rent associated with the apartments ($500 non-refundable fee for 1 pet, $800 for 2 pets, plus $50 monthly pet rent per pet), the dog park is an integral part of the pet-friendly living experience these complexes promote.
Community Events: The management of The Mile development or Fairfax County Park Authority might occasionally host pet-friendly community events or gatherings in the broader park area or at the dog park itself. These events could offer free activities, educational opportunities, or connect pet owners with local pet-related businesses.
To stay informed about any such community events, maintenance updates, or changes in access, local residents in Tysons should regularly check the websites or social media channels of The Mile development (e.g., Brentford at The Mile or Highgate at The Mile), or the Fairfax County Park Authority, as they would be the primary sources of information regarding this amenity.
For inquiries directly related to The Mile Dog Park, such as operational status, maintenance issues, or specific rules, the best points of contact would likely be:
Address: Tysons, VA 22102, USA (It is part of The Mile development, which has residences such as Brentford at The Mile, located at 7970 Maitland St, Tysons, VA 22102, and Highgate at the Mile, located at 7915 Jones Branch Dr, McLean, VA 22102).
General Fairfax County Park Authority Phone: (703) 324-8700 (This is a general contact number for Fairfax County Park Authority, which oversees many public park amenities, and can often direct specific inquiries.)
Alternatively, if the dog park is primarily managed by the private developer of The Mile, contacting the management office of the associated residential properties (like Brentford at The Mile or Highgate at The Mile) might yield more direct information. Their phone numbers are often listed on their respective websites.
For dog owners residing in Tysons, Virginia, and the surrounding highly urbanized areas, The Mile Dog Park is an exceptionally suitable and valuable local amenity. Its strategic location within "The Mile" development provides a much-needed green space and off-leash area right in the heart of a bustling commercial and residential hub, making it incredibly convenient for local residents to provide essential exercise and socialization for their dogs.
The park's most distinctive and practical feature—its artificial grass surface—makes it an ideal choice for year-round visits, especially on "rainy days" when natural grass parks would be a muddy mess. This ensures that pups can consistently enjoy outdoor playtime without tracking dirt into homes or cars, a significant benefit for urban dwellers. While some may desire a larger space, the existing park thoughtfully incorporates seating and some shade, enhancing comfort for both dogs and their human companions during visits.
The consistent feedback highlighting a community of "kind people and friendly dogs" underscores a positive social environment, fostering connections among local pet owners. Despite potential minor issues with water fountain functionality, the park's commitment to cleanliness with waste disposal stations and its overall well-maintained nature make it a reliable and enjoyable destination. For Tysons locals seeking a clean, convenient, and safe environment for their dogs to play and socialize, The Mile Dog Park stands out as a practical and cherished urban oasis.

Jun 03, 2025 · Meg GillesVery nice park. Also kind people and friendly dogs. Sad that they have fountain water but it’s not working properly. We should not carry with a lot of stuff plus also water with us for our puppy’s we the park have three completely off. Thanks

It's a turf grass field with plenty of open space and not many obstacles. The standard double gated door works by pushing the button at the center for the many people confused on how to open it. Great small dog park overall.
May 30, 2022 · Lizandro GonzalezClean and owners were diligent in cleaning up after their dogs (when I went). Glad there were lots of benches spaced away from one another (good for socially distancing), and although, a bit smaller, it was very spacious. And a plus was there is no mud because of the turf!
Feb 10, 2021 · L SSmall and bland dog park. Beyond a couple benches, the park is a rectangle of fake grass with metal fences. Water fountains are broken. But they do have poop bags and the park does have a nice little walking area around it.
