This dog park is ok. It’s nothing special. It’s not maintained or anything. It’s basically just a fenced in area of mud. They do have two separate areas, one for small dogs, and one for larger dogs. There’s a playground right next to the dog park. But there aren’t any restrooms around or anything. There are also picnic tables to sit at while your puppy plays.

Features / Highlights

South Field Dog Park - Union Point is noted by Massachusetts locals for several key features that contribute to its utility as an off-leash facility:

  • Dual Fenced Play Areas: A significant highlight is the presence of two separate fenced areas: one specifically for small dogs (under 30 lbs) and another for larger dogs (over 30 lbs). This thoughtful division is crucial for ensuring safe and comfortable play for all dogs, preventing smaller or more timid dogs from being overwhelmed by larger, more boisterous playmates.

  • Agility-Inspired Structures: The park includes wooden ramps and climbing structures, offering a basic level of agility and enrichment for dogs. These elements provide more than just a flat running space, encouraging varied play and physical activity.

  • Ample Parking: The availability of "plenty of spots for parking" is a practical highlight, making it convenient for residents to access the park without the hassle of searching for street parking, which is often a challenge in other Massachusetts communities.

  • Secure Fencing: Described as "very secure," the park's fencing provides a reliable boundary for off-leash play, giving owners peace of mind that their dogs are contained within the designated area.

  • Picnic Tables for Owners: The presence of picnic tables offers comfortable seating for dog owners to relax and supervise their pets, fostering a more pleasant and extended visit.

  • Proximity to Playground: Being located "right next to the dog park" is a playground, which can be a highlight for families, allowing for combined outings where both children and dogs have recreational options.

  • Generally Friendly Community: Reviews mention that "people and their best are very friendly too," indicating a welcoming atmosphere among park users, which contributes to positive social interactions for both dogs and humans.

While some reviews mention challenges such as muddy conditions and a lack of shade or water fountains on hot days, the park's core features—fenced separation, play structures, and ample parking—remain its primary draws for local dog owners.

Promotions or Special Offers

As a public dog park, South Field Dog Park - Union Point does not typically offer commercial "promotions" or "special offers" in the way a private business might. Access to the park is generally free and open to the public, supported by local management within the Union Point development. However, there are inherent benefits and guidelines that serve the community:

  • Free Public Access: The most significant "offer" is the free entry to a fenced off-leash dog park. This provides immense value to local dog owners in Weymouth and surrounding areas, allowing them to utilize a dedicated space for their pets' exercise and socialization without incurring costs.

  • Structured Play Environment: The provision of two separate fenced areas for small and large dogs is a structural "offer" that enhances safety and suitability for a wider range of canine visitors, promoting more harmonious play.

  • Agility-Style Play Enrichment: The inclusion of wooden ramps and climbing structures adds an element of enrichment, offering dogs more than just open space and encouraging physical activity, which is an implicit "offer" of improved canine well-being.

  • Community Atmosphere (Varies): While some reviews note a quiet atmosphere, others mention that "people and their best are very friendly too." This potential for positive social interaction among owners and dogs can be seen as an ongoing "special offer" of community building.

  • Adherence to Responsible Use: While not a promotion, compliance with rules regarding picking up waste (via provided receptacles) and responsible pet behavior helps ensure the park remains a pleasant and usable space for all. This cooperative effort from users is crucial for the park's sustained benefit to the community.

For any official announcements regarding park maintenance, new amenities, or changes in policy, Massachusetts locals should consult the management of Union Point or relevant Weymouth municipal departments, as public parks are typically governed by local ordinances rather than commercial promotions.

A very quiet place to bring our best friends, it’s a large space, very secure, organized, people and their best are very friendly too, it has a plenty of spots for parking, the only 2 bad points I saw are the fact I wish they could plant a tree inside and a fountain for fresh water, in hot days you can last more than 20 minutes lol, but for early morning routine is just perfect

No shade, no water. Mostly just a grassy, small open fenced area for dogs. Separate small dog area? No posted rules at all...

Too small of a “dog park” for any more than 1 or 2 dogs. There are two small fenced in areas with “loading dock” type entrances with double gates to prevent escaping when people are coming and going. It was supposed to be temporary while they constructed a bigger/nicer dog park but that that was years ago. There are frequently unfixed as well as aggressive, pushy, and untrained dogs that cause issues. Also keep in mind respiratory diseases that are going around and are transmitted through saliva (shared water bowls, playing with strange dogs) so would recommend bringing your own water for your dog.

I’m not sure who is responsible for the upkeep of these parks, but it’s in dire need of some tlc. The picnic tables are literally falling apart and very dangerous. There’s big holes underneath them from dogs digging. Lots of the toys are dirty, broke or just in general not safe. Clearly some owners don’t pick up their dogs waste which is disgusting! There needs to be something different for the ground cover as like many others have stated, it’s an awful mud pit when it rains and wicked dusty when dry. There are some very nice people and dogs that we’ve come across, but these parks really need some tlc…. Hopefully sooner than later as Union Point in general is a beautiful establishment and should be taken care of.
