Location and Accessibility
Ruff Range Dog Park is conveniently located at 5335 4th Army Dr, Frisco, TX 75034, USA. Situated on the west side of Frisco, it's easily accessible for residents throughout the city and surrounding North Texas communities. The park is nestled adjacent to B.F. Phillips Community Park, making it part of a larger recreational area.
The park's operational hours are designed to accommodate busy schedules, generally opening from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM daily. However, it’s important for local users to note a crucial detail: Ruff Range Dog Park is closed every Wednesday for essential maintenance. This regular closure ensures the park remains clean, safe, and well-maintained for all visitors. Ample parking is available, contributing to a hassle-free visit from the moment you arrive.
Services Offered
-
Separate Off-Leash Areas: Ruff Range Dog Park is thoughtfully designed with distinct, fully fenced areas to accommodate dogs of different sizes. There is a specific area for small dogs (typically under 25-35 pounds) and a separate, larger area for big dogs (generally over 25-35 pounds). This separation helps ensure a safer and more comfortable play experience for all dogs, allowing them to interact with peers of similar stature and energy levels. Notably, the large dog area even features two rotating sections, ensuring one part can recover from daily use while the other remains open.
-
Fresh Water Fountains: Keeping active pups hydrated is a priority, especially during the warm Texas climate. The park provides water fountains specifically designed for dogs, offering fresh water to help them cool down and rehydrate after playtime. (Please note: water fountains are typically turned off during winter months to prevent pipe damage, so bringing your own water and a bowl is advisable during colder seasons.)
-
Dog Washing Station: For those particularly muddy or dusty play sessions, Ruff Range Dog Park features a convenient dog washing station. This allows owners to rinse off their furry friends before heading home, keeping cars and homes cleaner.
-
Waste Stations with Bags: To ensure a clean and hygienic environment for everyone, the park is equipped with multiple waste disposal stations, complete with complimentary plastic bags. This makes it easy and convenient for owners to clean up after their pets promptly.
Features / Highlights
-
Expansive Play Areas: Ruff Range Dog Park boasts a significant amount of fenced space, approximately 2.5 acres, providing ample room for dogs to run, play, and explore freely. This large area helps prevent overcrowding, even when the park is busy.
-
Ample Shade and Seating: A highly praised feature, the park offers "plenty of shade" from mature trees, providing essential relief from the Texas sun for both dogs and their owners. Additionally, there are pavilions and numerous benches throughout the park, including stone bench seating, offering comfortable spots to relax and observe.
-
Rotating Large Dog Area: The innovative system of having two large dog areas that switch approximately every two weeks (on the 1st and 15th of the month) ensures that the turf can recover from heavy use, maintaining the quality of the playing surface.
-
Double-Gated Entrances: Safety is a priority, and the park features double-gated entry and exit points. This "vestibule" system helps prevent dogs from accidentally escaping while others are entering or leaving the park.
-
Friendly Community Atmosphere: Reviewers consistently mention the "nice pet owners" and "friendly dogs," indicating a welcoming and responsible community vibe. This makes Ruff Range a great place for both dogs and their humans to socialize.
-
Well-Maintained Grounds: The city of Frisco's commitment to regular maintenance, including weekly closures, results in a clean park free from excessive dog waste and generally well-kept grounds.
-
Instagram-Worthy Sculpture: Just outside the park entrance, you'll find a large, blue surf dog sculpture, perfect for a fun photo opportunity with your pup using #iHeartFrisco.
Promotions or Special Offers
As a public dog park managed by the City of Frisco Parks and Recreation Department, Ruff Range Dog Park offers the invaluable "promotion" of being a free, publicly accessible, and high-quality recreational facility. There are no traditional commercial promotions, discounts, or loyalty programs associated with the park itself. The significant benefit to local residents is consistent access to a well-maintained, safe, and engaging environment for their dogs at no cost.
However, the City of Frisco Parks and Recreation Department, and local community organizations, occasionally host special events or programs that may utilize Ruff Range Dog Park. For example, events like "Pooch Parade and Photo Ops" have been held in Frisco, often using public park spaces. These are not ongoing promotions but rather sporadic community gatherings that enhance the park experience.

Jun 06, 2025 · wendy mondragonI really enjoy this dog park however today I had to tell 3 different dog owners that their dog had pooped because they weren't paying attention. To their credit they said thanks & picked it up. I like that this dog park isn't flat, I like that it has seating around different areas of the park & that it is shaded. The dogs that were there interacted well & the people were friendly. We were on the large dog side.
Jun 06, 2022 · Jean ReevesThe spacious, fenced-in areas allow dogs to roam and play freely. The separate sections for large and small dogs ensure a safe environment for all breeds. The park is well-maintained with ample seating for pet parents. Plus, the friendly atmosphere makes it a joy to visit.
Mar 22, 2024 · Marion SouthThis is my least favorite dog park around. It always smells so bad and is muddy. Most dog owners don’t pay attention to their dogs and there is dog poop everywhere. We only go here in a crunch for a very short period of time!
