This isn't just a place to let your dog off-leash; it's a thoughtfully designed 4-acre facility that adapts to the seasons, providing diverse play surfaces and essential amenities for a positive experience for both pups and their human companions.
In Oregon, we cherish our green spaces, and that includes providing excellent recreational opportunities for our canine friends. However, finding a public dog park that offers both ample space and secure, well-managed zones can sometimes be a challenge. Riverside Dog Park excels in this regard, offering distinct areas for different dog sizes and needs, ensuring that every pup, from the most timid to the most boisterous, can enjoy their playtime in a relatively safe and stimulating setting. Its ability to expand its play area during warmer months is a particular highlight for local users who enjoy more space.
Whether your dog loves to sprint across open fields, enjoys exploring softer surfaces, or needs a dedicated space away from larger play, Riverside Dog Park aims to accommodate. With its commitment to providing a flexible and well-equipped environment, it’s no wonder this park has become a go-to spot for many dog owners in McMinnville and the surrounding communities. It truly contributes to a happier, healthier, and well-socialized canine population in our region.
Riverside Dog Park is conveniently located at 1900 NE Riverside Dr, McMinnville, OR 97128, USA. This prime address positions it as an easily accessible destination for residents throughout McMinnville and the broader Yamhill Valley area. Its placement on NE Riverside Drive means it's straightforward to reach from major local routes, ensuring a quick and hassle-free journey for you and your eager canine companion.
The park's setting offers a pleasant balance of natural surroundings and urban convenience. While it provides ample green space for dogs to play, it remains well-connected to residential areas and the main thoroughfares of McMinnville. This ease of access is a significant advantage, particularly for busy dog owners looking to integrate quality playtime into their daily schedules without lengthy commutes.
Upon arrival, visitors will find available parking, which contributes to a smooth transition from car to canine play area. The park features clear entry points, often with double-gated systems, which are crucial for safety and preventing accidental escapes as dogs enter and exit the off-leash zones. The thoughtful planning of Riverside Dog Park within the McMinnville community underscores its dedication to providing an easily reachable and enjoyable recreational spot for all its two- and four-legged residents.
Riverside Dog Park provides a range of services and facilities aimed at creating a safe, clean, and adaptable environment for off-leash canine recreation.
- Large Dog Off-Leash Area: The park features a dedicated area for larger and more active dogs to run and play freely. This area is noted for its varying ground cover depending on the season.
- Small/Timid Dog Area: A separate, designated area is available for smaller or more timid dogs. This ensures a safer and more comfortable play experience for pups who may be overwhelmed by larger, more boisterous play.
- Year-Round Play Surface: Approximately 2 acres of the park feature a soft cedar ground cover, providing a usable and less muddy surface for off-leash play throughout the year, even during wetter months.
- Seasonal Grass Area: An additional 2 acres of lawn turf are opened during the summer months (typically after May), expanding the play space significantly and offering a different surface for dogs to enjoy.
- Paved Walking Paths: Both the small and large dog runs include paved walking paths that loop around the perimeter. These paths are excellent for owners to walk or jog while supervising their dogs, or for on-leash training.
- Water Station: A water station is available to keep dogs hydrated during their playtime. While often operational, it's always advisable for owners to bring their own water and bowl as a backup, especially during off-season months or in case of temporary maintenance.
- Waste Bags & Garbage Bins: Doggy bags and garbage bins are conveniently available, promoting responsible pet waste disposal and maintaining cleanliness throughout the park.
- Limited Winter Lighting: For the convenience of users during shorter winter days, the park offers limited lighting to allow for visits after dusk.
Riverside Dog Park is distinguished by several key features and highlights that contribute to its popularity and functionality as a premier dog park in the McMinnville area.
- Adaptive Sizing: A standout feature is the park's ability to expand its usable space. It offers a 2-acre year-round area and then opens an additional 2-acre lawn-turf section during the warmer summer months (typically after May), providing ample room for dogs to run and play.
- Diverse Ground Covers: The combination of a soft cedar ground cover for year-round use and a grassy lawn turf for summer provides varied textures and experiences for dogs, catering to different preferences and weather conditions.
- Separate Areas for All Sizes: The distinct and securely fenced large dog area and small/timid dog area ensure that dogs of all sizes and temperaments can play safely and comfortably, minimizing potential conflicts.
- Paved Walking Paths: The presence of paved walking paths within both the large and small dog runs is a significant highlight, offering a clean and even surface for owners to stroll, jog, or use for on-leash training exercises.
- Kiddie Pools in Summer: During the summer, parks staff often put out small kiddie pools, allowing water-loving dogs to splash around and cool off, adding an extra element of fun to their visit.
- Essential Amenities on Site: The convenient availability of doggy bags, garbage bins, and a water station means owners have the necessary tools for a responsible and comfortable visit.
- Gated and Secure: The park is gated and well-maintained, contributing to a secure environment where owners can feel confident letting their dogs off-leash.
- Limited Evening Access: The limited lighting in winter months is a practical feature, allowing for visits even after sunset when daylight hours are short.
As a public community dog park managed by the City of McMinnville Parks and Recreation department, Riverside Dog Park operates on a free-access model for all residents and visitors. Therefore, it does not typically offer commercial promotions, discounts, or loyalty programs in the way a private business would.
However, the "special offers" inherent in a well-resourced public amenity like Riverside Dog Park come in the form of its consistent provision of valuable community resources and added benefits:
- Free Public Access: The most significant "special offer" is the ongoing availability of a spacious, versatile, and well-maintained off-leash area that is entirely free of charge. This makes it an incredibly valuable and accessible resource for daily dog exercise and socialization.
- Seasonal Expansion and Amenities: The opening of the additional 2-acre grass area in summer and the provision of kiddie pools during warmer months are "seasonal promotions" that enhance the park experience without additional cost to the user.
- Community Events & Programs: While not direct promotions, the City of McMinnville Parks and Recreation department or local dog advocacy groups may occasionally host free or low-cost community events at their parks, which could include dog-friendly gatherings, training workshops, or park clean-up days. These events add value to the park experience and encourage community engagement. It’s advisable to check the official City of McMinnville Parks and Recreation website for any upcoming activities.
- Ongoing Maintenance & Improvements: The sustained investment in maintaining the park's cleanliness, security, diverse play surfaces, and amenities (like water stations and paved paths) through public funding can be viewed as an ongoing "offer" of a high-quality recreational space for the well-being of local pets and their owners.
Since Riverside Dog Park is a public facility, users should not anticipate traditional retail promotions. Its immense value lies in its consistent provision as a free, safe, and enjoyable space for dogs and their owners in the McMinnville community.

Apr 11, 2025 · CelesteThe dog park itself is great, however some of the people that attend it aren't so... They bring their big bully of a dog to beat up on all the other dogs. I took my shepherd there for her very first time at a dog park and the first thing that happens to her, she gets attacked just as soon as we get in the gate. She didn't even want to chase after her ball after that. It's shameful that some people can't leave their unsociable dogs at home.
Mar 11, 2025 · steve schoeningThe most wonderful people and dogs come here, tons of space for the dogs to run around, plus walking paths, dog bags, bath station.
May 24, 2025 · S.B. HepburnThe Large dog winter area is spacious and bark-dusted for the pups, with a nice concrete walking area for their humans. Great place to romp of the confinement blues. My lab loved the "soaking tub". Me, not so much (silly me, I did not have any towels handy).
