I love the park. Everyone is so friendly and respectful. I love that the dog park is members only. It ensures the safety of the dogs in there. I don't want aggressive dogs in there. I hear horrible stories about dog parks, not here. If you want to join its $30/yr and a application. It's not hard. For everyone who says they didn't know its right on the paw point website. Not the parks fault you didn't read it before coming. There are some nice trails you can walk your dogs on. I'm a fan! It's pretty big place

For dog owners in Baltimore, Maryland, the quest for a safe, expansive, and truly enriching environment for their canine companions often leads them to a remarkable destination: Paw Point Dog Park. Nestled within the picturesque Lake Roland, Paw Point offers an unparalleled off-leash experience that prioritizes the safety, well-being, and enjoyment of its furry members. Unlike many public dog parks, Paw Point operates on a members-only model, a feature highly lauded by its community for fostering a respectful and responsible atmosphere.
The philosophy behind Paw Point is clear: to provide a secure and well-managed space where dogs can truly thrive. This commitment is evident in every aspect of the park, from its controlled access to its thoughtful layout. Imagine your dog joyfully exploring over an acre of fenced-in space, interacting with other well-socialized pups, and perhaps even taking a refreshing dip in the lake on a warm day. This unique blend of open land and water access sets Paw Point apart as a premier destination for active dogs.
Members consistently praise the friendly and respectful community that has grown around Paw Point. The membership requirement ensures that all dogs entering the park are vaccinated, licensed, and registered, significantly reducing the risks of aggressive behavior or unknown health statuses often associated with less regulated spaces. This proactive approach to safety and accountability creates a reassuring environment where both dogs and owners can relax and enjoy their time without undue worry.
Whether your dog loves to run full-speed across grassy fields, enjoys a good game of fetch, or is a water enthusiast eager to paddle, Paw Point provides the diverse landscape for all these activities. It's more than just a place to let your dog off-leash; it’s a vibrant community hub where responsible pet ownership is celebrated, and canine happiness is paramount.
This comprehensive article will explore everything that makes Paw Point Dog Park an ideal choice for Maryland locals, detailing its serene location, the exclusive services it offers, its standout features, membership details, and why it consistently receives rave reviews from its dedicated patrons.
The Paw Point Dog Park is beautifully situated at 1000 Lakeside Dr, Baltimore, MD 21210, USA. This prime location places it within the sprawling and scenic Lake Roland, a significant natural and recreational asset for Baltimore and surrounding communities. The park is located at the tip of a peninsula within Lake Roland, offering a tranquil and picturesque setting for dog exercise and socialization.
Access to Paw Point Dog Park is primarily managed through its members-only policy. Upon joining, members receive a secure code for entry through a double-gated entrance. This controlled access system is crucial for maintaining the park's safety and exclusivity, ensuring that only registered dogs and their owners are present. This helps prevent unauthorized access and supports a more predictable environment for all users.
Visitors to Lake Roland, and subsequently Paw Point, benefit from ample parking within the regional park. While specific instructions for reaching the dog park from the main parking areas usually involve a short walk, this stroll through Lake Roland's natural beauty adds to the overall experience. The park is often described as being a short walk from the main entrance on Lakeside Drive. There is also boardwalk access to the Park from the Falls Road light rail station, providing convenient and ample parking for those utilizing public transport or choosing to combine their visit with a scenic route.
It is important to remember that while the general Lake Roland area welcomes leashed dogs free of charge, access to the enclosed Paw Point Dog Park is strictly for members. This distinction ensures the integrity of the members-only benefits and the safety protocols in place.
Paw Point Dog Park - Members Only provides a suite of services designed to enhance the off-leash experience within a safe and controlled environment for its registered members.
- Membership-Based Access: The fundamental service is exclusive access to the fully fenced 1.25-acre off-leash facility, granted only to annual members. This ensures a community of responsible, registered dog owners.
- Separate Play Areas: The park features distinct, fully enclosed sections for different dog sizes. There is a 0.34-acre area for small dogs (under 35 lbs, including elderly or docile larger dogs) and a larger 1.06-acre area for big dogs, promoting safer interactions.
- Lake Access for Dogs: A unique and highly valued service is the direct, secure access to a section of Lake Roland for dogs to swim. This provides an excellent opportunity for water-loving dogs to cool off and exercise, cordoned off with buoys for safety.
- Dog Drinking Water Fountains: The park is equipped with seasonal drinking water fountains for dogs to stay hydrated during playtime. Members are advised to bring their own water during colder months when fountains may be turned off.
- Waste Disposal Stations: Bag dispensers and waste receptacles are provided throughout the park, encouraging members to diligently clean up after their pets and maintain a clean environment.
- Benches for Owners: Benches are available within the park for owners to sit, relax, and supervise their dogs, enhancing comfort during their visit.
- Double-Gated Entry System: The park utilizes a secure, code-controlled, double-gated entrance to prevent accidental escapes and ensure only members can access the off-leash area.
Paw Point Dog Park boasts several impressive features that make it a premier destination for dog owners in Baltimore and surrounding Maryland areas.
- Unrivaled Lake Access for Dogs: This is arguably Paw Point's most unique and beloved feature. Dogs have secure, designated access to a section of Lake Roland, allowing them to swim, paddle, and cool off, especially wonderful during the warmer months. This natural water feature sets it apart from many other dog parks in the region.
- Members-Only Exclusivity and Safety: The membership requirement (including proof of current rabies vaccinations and city/county licenses for all registered dogs) fosters a community of responsible pet owners. This model contributes significantly to a safer, more predictable, and less aggressive environment compared to open public parks. Reviews consistently highlight the friendly and respectful nature of park users.
- Expansive and Secure Fenced Areas: The park offers a substantial 1.25 acres of fully fenced off-leash space, thoughtfully divided into a 1.06-acre large dog area and a 0.34-acre small dog area. This generous sizing ensures plenty of room for running and play, while the robust fencing and code-controlled, double-gated entrance provide excellent security.
- Beautiful Natural Setting within Lake Roland: Located within the picturesque Lake Roland, the park offers more than just a dog enclosure. Members can enjoy the surrounding beauty of the regional park, including walking trails (for leashed dogs), making a visit to Paw Point a comprehensive outdoor experience for the whole family.
- Well-Maintained and Clean Environment: Reviews frequently praise the park's cleanliness and how well it is maintained. This commitment to upkeep, supported by membership fees and volunteers, ensures a pleasant and hygienic space for all users.
- Community-Supported Operation: Paw Point is operated by the Lake Roland Nature Council, an all-volunteer organization. This community-driven model means that membership fees directly contribute to the park's maintenance and improvements, fostering a strong sense of ownership and dedication among its members.
- All-Season Usability: The park is generally open year-round from sunrise to 15 minutes before sunset, allowing for consistent and flexible access for members, regardless of the season (though water access and fountains may be seasonal).
As a members-only dog park managed by the Lake Roland Nature Council, Paw Point Dog Park operates on a non-profit model. Its "promotions" are structured around its annual membership, which provides exclusive access and helps fund the park's operations and maintenance. While you won't find typical retail discounts, there are clear benefits and membership tiers that offer value to the local Maryland community.
The primary "offer" is the annual membership itself, which grants unlimited use of the facility from sunrise to 15 minutes before sunset. This ensures a consistent, secure, and well-maintained environment for your dogs.
Key aspects of their membership structure that act as incentives include:
- Affordable Annual Fee: The individual membership fee is currently $35 per year, covering up to two licensed and vaccinated dogs. This is a very reasonable cost for year-round access to such a high-quality facility, especially one with unique features like lake access.
- Multiple Dog Coverage: A single membership covers up to two dogs, providing excellent value for multi-dog households. For those with more than two dogs, additional memberships (at $35 each) can be purchased for every two additional dogs, though only two dogs per handler are allowed at any one time.
- Discounted Renewal Incentives (Historically Offered): While specific current promotions should always be verified on their official website, in past years, Paw Point has offered discounted renewal rates for existing members who renew by a certain deadline (e.g., $25 for renewals by February 28th). This encourages consistent membership and helps with park planning.
- No Prorating: It's important to note that memberships run from January 1st to December 31st each calendar year, and there is no prorating for partial-year memberships. This encourages joining at the beginning of the year for maximum value.
- Walk-Up Registration Days: To facilitate easy enrollment and renewals, Paw Point often holds specific walk-up registration/renewal days (e.g., in early November), where members can bring their completed applications, payment (cash or check), and receive their tags and new gate code immediately, avoiding mail delays.
The "special offer" for members is the peace of mind that comes with a regulated environment, ensuring safer interactions for their dogs. The ongoing maintenance and unique amenities like lake access are continuously funded by these membership contributions, directly benefiting the members themselves.
For the most accurate and up-to-date information on membership fees, renewal deadlines, and any new membership benefits, it is always recommended to visit the official Paw Point Dog Park website (PawPoint.org) or contact them directly via their official channels. They also provide their membership application form online for easy download.

For dog owners in Baltimore and across Maryland, Paw Point Dog Park at Lake Roland stands out as an exceptionally suitable and highly recommended destination. Its unique combination of a membership-based model, comprehensive amenities, and a beautiful natural setting makes it an unparalleled choice for responsible pet parents seeking a premium off-leash experience.
The primary reason for its strong suitability for locals is its members-only policy. This model ensures a community of vetted, responsible owners whose dogs are all licensed and vaccinated. This significantly minimizes the risk of aggressive encounters and promotes a safer, more predictable environment, which is a top priority for many dog owners concerned about the incidents sometimes heard from other public dog parks. The respectful and friendly atmosphere consistently noted by members is a direct result of this controlled access.
Furthermore, Paw Point offers an extraordinary array of features that elevate the dog park experience. The expansive 1.25 acres of fully fenced space, thoughtfully divided into separate areas for small and large dogs, ensures that every canine, regardless of size or temperament, can play comfortably and safely. However, the true highlight that sets Paw Point apart is its direct, secure access to a section of Lake Roland for dog swimming. This rare amenity provides an incredible outlet for water-loving dogs, allowing them to cool off and enjoy a different form of exercise, making it a year-round favorite for many.
Located within the serene Lake Roland, the park also allows for a broader outdoor experience. Owners can enjoy scenic walks with their leashed dogs around the lake before or after off-leash playtime, integrating the dog park visit into a larger recreational outing. The presence of water fountains, waste disposal stations, and benches further enhances convenience and comfort.
The fact that Paw Point Dog Park is an all-volunteer operated facility, funded by its members, underscores its community-driven spirit. By joining, locals directly contribute to the maintenance and continuous improvement of this valuable resource, fostering a sense of ownership and pride.
In essence, Paw Point Dog Park is more than just a fenced-in area; it's a thriving community committed to providing the safest, most enjoyable, and most enriching off-leash environment possible for Baltimore's dogs. For Maryland locals seeking peace of mind, extensive amenities, and a truly exceptional place for their dogs to flourish, Paw Point Dog Park is the definitive choice.

Apr 19, 2025 · Michelle ElizabethPaw Point is THE BEST dog park! If you are skeptical about joining let this be your sign that it is wonderful! They have swimming access which is wonderful in the heat! And they have so much room to run! It is Ozzie and Trotwood approved!!
Jun 25, 2024 · Morgan HayMy dog's favorite weekend spot! He loves the company, the swimming and the playing! It's a very clean location. Water and doggie bags included... Just wish everyone would be courteous enough to clean up after their own dog instead of me having to do it for them so I can play Frisbee without having to worry about it landing in a pile. Wish the swim area was a tad bit bigger and a little more sloped like a boat dock instead of the rocks, which my dog finds uncomfortable to walk on and navigate.
Sep 05, 2019 · Amber VelterGreat place, friendly and considerate people, fantastic dogs. It’s well kept and has swimming available for the dogs. Nothing but good boys, all the good boys.
Feb 27, 2022 · Ashton MenefeeThis is the best dog park I have been to. It's large, well-maintained, and the surrounding nature scenery is beautiful. You have to sign up to be a member, but it's worth it. It has fenced-in lake access for your dog to swim.
