Mila and I started coming here 3 days ago. She has begged me to return every single day! It’s only 5 mins away from our house, so I happily take her before I leave for work. I was so nervous because of all the horror stories I’ve heard about dog parks, but I’m so glad we decided to give it a chance. I was sick of spending so much money on daycare, it’s free to come here and have her play with other dogs under my supervision! There isn’t any staff on sight to oversee the play areas, but the owners have been responsible so far. They always clean up after their dogs, and have been super friendly, respectful, and welcoming!!! It’s great to see such a diverse group of people come together for our shared love for our dogs. It’s so wholesome to have a bunch of strangers of all ages, races, walks of life, etc giggling and admiringly watching our dogs play together. Mila is way less reactive with other dogs now. I’m so happy. We both love coming here. We get to bond in nature in a nice, quiet, secluded area with other dogs. Gorgeous views this fall, come check it out! Just be mindful not to bring treats (to avoid digestion issues for other dogs if they eat fallen treats) and to clean up after your pup ❤️ Description: The area is super spacious. There are two separate play areas, one for small dogs and one for big dogs, although I’ve seen small dogs in the big area as well. There are supplies available for picking up poop if you forget your bags at home (disposable glove type things). There’s a nice sheltered bench area for you to sit and watch. Beside it, there’s a bowl and fully functioning water hose for the dogs. Pro tip: The dogs all seem to get along, but I’ve heard from other owners that sometimes, aggressive dogs are brought by irresponsible owners, and this has led to bad fights in the past. If you’re hesitant like I was, I recommend bringing your dog on a leash during the first few mins while the dogs get to know each other, and have a muzzle on hand in case of an emergency. Have your dog socialize with the others for a bit off leash after seeing that they get along. Then as soon as they seem overstimulated and show signs of aggression, go home and try again tomorrow.

This article aims to provide a clear, engaging, and informative overview of what makes Mattie Stepanek Dog Park a beloved destination for local Maryland dog lovers.
The philosophy behind an off-leash dog park is profound: it provides a designated area where dogs can legally and safely run without the constraints of a leash, promoting natural play behaviors, improving physical fitness, and enhancing crucial social skills. Mattie Stepanek Dog Park exemplifies this ideal, offering a well-maintained space that caters to the diverse needs of various dog breeds and temperaments. Beyond the obvious benefits for dogs, the park also serves as a vibrant community hub for dog owners. It's a place where friendships blossom, tips are exchanged, and a shared passion for dogs creates a warm and inviting atmosphere. As one happy customer noted, "Mila and I started coming here 3 days ago. She has begged me to return every single day! It’s only 5 mins away from our house, so I happily take her before I leave for work." This sentiment perfectly captures the park's immediate appeal and convenience.
Mattie Stepanek Dog Park is conveniently located at 1800 Piccard Dr, Rockville, MD 20850, USA. Situated within the larger Mattie J.T. Stepanek Park, the dog park benefits from the park's existing infrastructure and scenic surroundings. Accessing the dog park within the broader park is straightforward, and ample parking is generally available, ensuring a convenient arrival for patrons, even during peak hours. Its situation on Piccard Drive provides easy access from major routes, making it a quick and stress-free trip for many local dog owners seeking essential off-leash exercise and socialization for their pets.
The benefit of its location within Mattie J.T. Stepanek Park extends beyond mere accessibility. Visitors can easily combine a trip to the dog park with other recreational activities offered within the larger park, such as utilizing its lighted tennis courts, basketball courts, pickleball courts, soccer/multi-use field, or playground. This integrated approach allows for a more comprehensive outdoor experience for both you and your dog, making the trip to the dog park a full destination rather than just a quick stop. The park hours, typically from 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM daily, provide ample flexibility for visits throughout the day, accommodating various schedules and your dog's energy levels.
Mattie Stepanek Dog Park goes beyond simply offering an open space; it provides several thoughtfully designed services and amenities to ensure a comfortable, safe, and enjoyable experience for all visitors:
- Separate Areas for Small and Large Dogs: This is a highly praised feature, as noted by a reviewer: "There are two separate play areas, one for small dogs and one for big dogs." This crucial division helps prevent potential conflicts and ensures that dogs of all sizes and energy levels can play safely and comfortably, allowing smaller or more timid dogs to enjoy their space without being overwhelmed.
- Water Hose and Bowls: The park is equipped with a "fully functioning water hose for the dogs" and "a bowl." This provides a convenient and essential resource for dogs to rehydrate after their vigorous play sessions, though bringing your own additional water is always a good idea.
- Waste Disposal Supplies: The park provides "supplies available for picking up poop if you forget your bags at home (disposable glove type things)." This commitment to providing waste disposal tools promotes a clean and hygienic environment for everyone, encouraging responsible pet ownership.

Mattie Stepanek Dog Park boasts several key features that contribute significantly to its high regard among Rockville dog owners:

While a "pro tip" advised caution regarding aggressive dogs and suggested bringing a leash and muzzle for initial visits, this common advice for any dog park underscores the importance of responsible pet ownership within a shared space. The park provides the excellent facilities; user etiquette completes the positive experience.

The primary "offer" is the high-quality, well-maintained environment provided without a direct user fee for park entry. While there are no specific sales or discounts, the park's existence and upkeep are a testament to the community's investment in pet-friendly spaces.
Any special community events, organized dog meet-ups, or park-related announcements would usually be communicated through the City of Rockville's official website, Montgomery Parks' channels, or local community boards. Nov 13, 2024 · Setareh JanatkhahGreat park for dogs to run and explore! Took Opie here today, and he had an amazing time playing and meeting new friends. The space is well-maintained, and the fenced area gives dogs plenty of room to roam safely. Definitely a great spot for dog owners in the area! It was also a perfect environment to reinforce off-leash recall and good social manners.
Feb 15, 2025 · Dog PrincipalGreat dog park. Plenty of space to run and most people pick up after there dog. There are two sections, one for small dogs,(under 25 lbs, and one for larger dogs (over 25 lbs). There is fresh water and a small wading pool for hot weather. Very seldom are there dog confrontation's and most owners are great about keeping an eye on their dog.
May 09, 2018 · Richard MeddingsHaven't been to many dog parks but among the few we visited I like this one the most. It is two parts under and over 25lbs. People are more considerate and they watch their dog most of the time. I personally haven't seen any aggressive pets in the park.
Sep 12, 2023 · Ali KamalGreat little park to bring your dogs big or small. Ample room for running around and lots of friends to play with. It can get a bit muddy from time to time but it's not too bad. There's also a kiddy pool for the dogs to play in when the weather is hot and a water pump for drinking water.
