Such a big, nice space! Available water to fill up bowls for dogs. I wasn’t totally sure where I should park, but ended up finding a path through the nearby neighborhood.

Welcome to Lyons Dog Park

For dog owners in Colorado, finding the perfect spot for your furry friend to run, play, and socialize is a top priority. Look no further than the Lyons Dog Park, a beloved destination that consistently earns rave reviews from the local community. This expansive off-leash area offers a safe and enjoyable environment for dogs of all sizes and energy levels, making it a true gem in the heart of Lyons.

Introduction / Overview

The Lyons Dog Park is a dedicated 10-acre off-leash area, thoughtfully maintained by the Town of Lyons. It's designed to provide a secure and stimulating environment where dogs can exercise and interact freely. Situated within the larger Bohn Park, this dog park is a go-to for those seeking a large, open space for their pups to burn off energy. Local dog owners frequently praise its size and the generally responsible community of handlers who visit, contributing to a positive experience for everyone.

As many Coloradans know, a good dog park is about more than just open space; it's about the quality of the experience. The Lyons Dog Park stands out for its well-kept grounds and the provision of essential amenities that make visits comfortable for both dogs and their human companions.

Location and Accessibility

The Lyons Dog Park is conveniently located at 199 2nd Ave, Lyons, CO 80540, USA. It's situated on the south end of Bohn Park, making it an accessible spot for many in the Front Range area. While the address leads you to Bohn Park, the dog park itself is accessible via a short walking trail from the parking areas.

Parking can be found along 2nd Avenue, which offers free on-street parking. Alternatively, paid parking is available at Bohn Park. Visitors have noted that while finding the exact entrance initially might require a little navigation, the overall accessibility is good. One common piece of advice from regulars is to look for the high school/middle school football field lights, as the dog park is directly to the west of them. This can be particularly helpful for first-time visitors trying to pinpoint the exact location.

The park is open daily from dawn to dusk, allowing for plenty of opportunities to visit throughout the day. However, like any public facility, it may be closed occasionally for maintenance or special events, so it's always a good idea to check for updates if you're planning a visit during unusual hours.

Services Offered
  • Off-Leash Play Area: The primary service is the expansive 10-acre designated off-leash zone, allowing dogs ample room to run and play freely.

  • Water Access: The park provides available water, allowing owners to easily refill water bowls for their thirsty dogs during their visit. This is a crucial amenity, especially during warmer Colorado days.

  • Waste Bag Dispensers: To help maintain cleanliness, poop bags are provided on site, encouraging responsible pet ownership and ensuring a pleasant environment for all users.

  • Accessibility: The park is wheelchair accessible, ensuring that visitors with mobility challenges can also enjoy the space with their pets.

  • Free Entry: Lyons Dog Park is free and open to the public, meaning there are no membership fees required to enjoy this fantastic resource.

Features / Highlights
  • Generous Space: At 10 acres, Lyons Dog Park offers a remarkably large area for dogs to explore and exercise. This extensive space is a significant draw, allowing dogs to truly stretch their legs.

  • Fenced Environment: The entire off-leash area is fully fenced, providing a secure boundary for dogs to play safely without wandering off, giving owners peace of mind.

  • Responsible Community: Many visitors highlight the positive atmosphere, often attributing it to a community of responsible dog owners. This creates a more harmonious and enjoyable experience for all.

  • Proximity to Nature: The park is located near hiking trails and wooded areas, which adds to the natural appeal of the setting. This proximity also reminds visitors to be mindful of wildlife, a common consideration when enjoying Colorado's outdoors.

  • Popular Destination: Despite the occasional crowds during prime hours (early morning and evening), the park remains a top choice for many, with some driving up to 25 minutes to visit regularly due to consistently positive experiences.

Promotions or Special Offers

While the Lyons Dog Park itself doesn't offer specific promotions for its use (as it's free to enter), the Town of Lyons does offer Discount Dog Days during the month of April for dog licensing. From April 1st to April 30th each year, residents can license their first dog for $20 (regularly $30) and each additional dog for $15 (regularly $20). All dog licenses expire on April 30th and renewals are due by May 1st. This is a great opportunity for local dog owners to ensure their pets are properly licensed at a reduced cost, directly supporting dog-friendly initiatives in Lyons.

For more information on dog licensing and any potential community-wide pet events, it's always recommended to check the official Town of Lyons website or contact them directly.

My dogs are obsessed with this place, we drive 25 minutes just to go here. We have had many bad experiences at other dog parks with irresponsible owners, and when we found this place we were so happy, we have only had one incident of an unfriendly dog here out of the 50 plus times we have gone. Lots of space for running around and getting exercise. It can get a little crowded during prime time hours (early morning, and evening) but is still our number one place. Always remember to watch out for wild life as it is near hiking trails and woods.

Very nice dog park. Don't trust Google directions. Park near Bohn Park and walk.

Best dog park we've been to. Great space, great dogs, beautiful view. 1/2 mile loop around. Just don't trust Google when it tells you to go down a weird winding path that ends in someone's driveway. Just park in front of the bohn park construction area and follow the grey gravel path, it's about a 1/4 back.

How would I know? Google directions take you down several muddy dirt roads to a private driveway. Makes no sense at all.
